What i read from the reviews, up to 100KMs you can change 4WD to 2WD and vice versa on the fly. i believe this is the unique feature of Pajero sport.

"Mitsubishi 4WD System
The Triton’s Easy Select 4WD and Pajero Sport’s Super Select 4WD system offer multi modes for all situations. 2H is for maximising efficiency on tarmac driving while 4H spreads drive 50:50 to all four wheels for more secure traction in slippery conditions. Drivers can switch between this two modes “on the fly” at speeds of up to 100 km/h.

When the going gets tough, there’s 4L mode in the Triton to tackle rough terrain. In this mode, 4WD joined by low range gears for maximum traction through mud or sand. The Pajero Sport’s Super Select 4WD system has two all wheel drive modes – 4HLc and 4LLc, the latter utilises low range gearing and locking differentials. Both models come with Hybrid LSD (Limited Slip Differential), which combines the torque-sensing benefit of helical gears and a speed-sensing benefit of a viscous coupling unit."
For 4H, switch can be done at any speed less than 100kmph.

For 4L, switch should be made at standstill & the speed may be raised upto 20kmph. Higher speed might damage the drivetrain.

At around 80 kmph speed- I found (or perceived) better stability and handling.
Rear Passengers will not move left or right on curves at high speed. Land cruisers are specialized in this area.

I have driven in 4H for some time, and till speeds of 120/130. I did this specially during rains and saw remarkable stability in the vehicle when crossing puddles of water at high speeds. In my 2WD scorpio - I used to feel a distinct pull on the steering towards the deeper end of the puddle and would have to compensate. In 4H mode in the Pajero - the vehicle drove pretty much the same way as it would on a normal dry road. It was actually a bit of an anti climax for me, since I was expecting some steering correction!

Re: The Mighty Mitsubishi Pajero Sport Drives In [13K Kms Crossed]

Pajero Sport gurus: I have a question. In the Kenwood system (fitted in the Anniversary edition) - I am not able to get to the next saved radio station when I click on the '>>' (Next) button either on the touch screen or on the steering mounted controls. When I press the '>>' button, the tuner changes its frequency by about 0.05 MHz, where as I want it to go to the next saved station.

I have tried to play around with the system to figure out some setting to make this happen, but so far unable to. Any ideas how to do this?

Similar type of Kenwood system is fitted in Mahindra SsangYong Rexton [;)]

'>>' (Next) button either on the touch screen or on the steering mounted controls is meant to go to next available frequency. It will not go to next saved station / frequency.

To do that, you need to press any of 1 - 9 buttons on touch screen (you can save desired station/frequency to 1 to 9 positions - total 9).

Actually, I have been researching this on the internet. Found out my Kenwood model number (DDX 4301BT) and hunted for the user manual. The behaviour of '>>' button is dictated by what mode the 'Seek' button is. I am enclosing the relevant part of the manual here. As you can see - if we keep the 'Seek' button in the Auto2 mode, the '>>' button should go to the next saved station.

Give it a try, it should work for you too. Else, try to find out your Kenwood model number (will be written on the front panel, right hand bottom corner), and hunt for your user manual on the internet.

Today, I drove the Automatic for about 500km on some portions of the road that was not really good. I enjoyed driving on bad patches but literally frustarted when needed to move from zero.

Feels like this variant is better for HW driving rather than citi driving :) .

The INVECS-II transmission used in the PS AT is a very smart transmission which "learns" your usage parameters and alters gear shift timings and rpms accordingly. However, it needs around 1000km of usage to align itself completely to the driver's style.

Give it some more time and distance and you will be simply in love with the way it will behave.

Pajero Sport AT is tuned that way, whereas Fortuner AT throws little more power for initial pickup. No worry, you will adjust according to Automatic Transmission on a weeks time. How is the ride comfort on bad roads?
