Suggestions Needed for Buying a Good DSLR

Yes finally i have decided to get myself a DSLR now. There are so many professional photographers here at TAI , so i think this is the right place where i can get good suggestions. Myself not so knowledgeable about cameras much , discussed with a friend of mine and checked out in few shops yesterday. My budget is somewhere between 30-50k , but the cheaper the better.[;)]

Shortlisted the following DSLR'S first:

1. Canon EOS 550D
2.Canon EOS 600D
3.Nikon D3100
4. Nikon D5100
5. Nikon D90

Somehow din like Sony Alpha and don't want to go in for Olympus , Lumix etc

Out of this i finally am inching towards Nikon D 5100. Comes to around Rs.37k here in Chennai with 18-55mm kit lens. I find this very much VFM. Read a few reviews online and most of them were good , a good entry-level DSLR for a beginner like me.

Is the Nikon D 5100 a wise choice? Need your suggestion guys!

Nikon D3100 and Canon 1000D are entry level DSLR's and they are okay for the start
I have a canon 1000D its okay not bad.
I would go for a Nikon 5100, D7000 are good ones

Re: Suggestions needed for buying a good DSLR

Hi Cooldhaya

By default, i am a Canon fan. Though i don't have personal DSLR but i have used few and all being Canon so my suggestions will be limited to Canon only.

Canon 1000D is now replaced by 1100D with enhanced features, although both the variants are available in market currently and good buy for a startup DSLR.

Similarly, Canon 550D is replaced by 600D and with much better features and compatible for more professional usage. I have used 550D a lot and its awesome.

I suggest you visit Digital Cameras: Digital Photography Review, News, Reviews, Forums, FAQ for extensive review and details/comparison of various models before making final decision. Will help.

Keep us posted with your selection, will look forward to some amazing shots of automobile beauties, soon.

Monil.

The only difference between the 1000D and the 1100D is video recording.

NOTHING ELSE

Save some cash, pick up a 1000D

Re: Suggestions needed for buying a good DSLR

@ AMG I think specs wise Nikon D 5100 is slightly better compared to Canon 1000D. Though this is my first DSLR i don't want a very basic one as i maybe using this for quite a few years , so i don't want to regret later for going in for an very basic DSLR.

@ Codename 47 I think i will not be able to afford the D7000 , i am almost zeroing in on the Nikon D 5100.

@ Peter Thanks bro , i have been searching for RSM'S thread from yesterday , i already went through the first thread created by you.

@ Monil Well out of the shortlisted cameras i posted above i finally came down to Canon EOS 600D Vs Nikon D 5100. Read some reviews and comparisons , liked the Nikon D 5100 more. Also cost is a major factor , Nikon D 5100 with 18-55mm kit lens is cheaper than Canon EOS 600D with kit lens.
