Had a chance to test d7100 with a fast memory card yesterday. (95mb/s read, 90mb/s write speed). On continuous shooting, I could get only around 2 shots/s. The file size of d7100 is huge. That is a disadvantage if one wants to shoot at the highest res and use continuous mode.

The workaround is to use the in camera 1/3 crop mode and/or shoot jpg. While you get faster continuous shots, you loose out on the ability to do your own crop in 1/3rd crop mode and opting for jpg mode, you loose out on post processing.

Tried and compared the sony DSLRs and NEX series with conventional Nikon DSLRs and the result was unconventional and unbelievable. The score card of sony DSLRs had very little difference in comparison with those acclaimed as best in the industry. This can very well be verified at the best camera comparison website, Compare digital cameras - Snapsort as rightly called as the google of camera.

BTW currently I am using SONY HX 200V Point & Shoot, graduated from NIKON Coolpix Point & Shoot.

Planning to own a DSLR soon after reading the discussions and looking at the wonderful pics in this thread. Guys I am a amateur in case of DSLRs. However, from the discussion above the only Camera that was suggested by max is NIKON D90. Why not SONY DSLR Alpha 3000/NEX 6? Thanks in anticipation of genuine suggestion on this point.

Another person in this forum who wanted to start a debate on Sony posted this link

It is whether you want to buy DSLR or Hybrid ones. Less availability of lenses (either on rental or online). You need converter to use other lens. If you want to use converter and use some other manufacturer's lens, what is the fun in owning a different brand camera. The professional DSLR from sony costs 70K +

Bullet or Tata-Nano ? Nano got full cover on your body from rain, 4-5 people can sit. Almost same mileage. Some still prefers bullet than owning a Nano. Some like to own Nano than bullet.

D90 is outdated and you may not find the same in market. D7000 replaced D90 , D7100 is in market replacing D7000.

I just shared my views. It is no where a suggestion.
If you are going for DSLR and ready to spend money,
buy one with metering display. Buy one with a good body which can withstand bit of rain too.

All the best for your purchase !

This has been debated extensively in the net and forums. So I feel another debate is not necessary. But, it is great to know that you have tried these cameras. It would be interesting to know the tests that you conducted on these cameras to arrive at the conclusion.

In the end it all depends on which body that feel comfortable in the hand and the positions of the key buttons. I, for one, prefer bigger and heavier bodies.

Thank you Appus and Highway Ranger for sharing the link. I found it (DSLR Vs Mirrorless Camera Debate: I Bought Sony NEX-5R Mirrorless Camera) as an ownership review of Sony NEX 5 and not any kind of dissucssion/debate on different brands. However, the information provided by Vijay_968 is really worth reading.

Anyways I would continue my debate at the following thread as it looks more appropriate there.

Hi Highway Ranger,
I'm still on the bundled Class 4 SDHC on my NEX and searching for one with good speed. I almost bought Sony's Class 10 UHS-I SDHC SF-16UX with claimed speeds of up to 94MB/s and write speed of 45MB/s. One review gave it around 13MB/s write speed and I backed off. Reviews in Flipkart are average for this. The card you tested could be the one I'm waiting for. Please share the brand and type no. Thanks in advance.

What will be the best price for Sandisk extreme pro sdhc 32gb 95mb/s uhs speed class 10 memory card?

The card I got is Sandisk extreme pro sdhc 32gb 95mb/s uhs speed class 10 memory card. It has a stated read speed of 95mb/s and write speed of 90mb/s. Currently it is the fastest card I could find in the market. From Flipkart I got it for 4990 + a discount of 250= 4740.

Please do check the max write speed of your camera before buying any card. For my D90, write speed of 45MB/s would be just fine and write speed of 95MB/s would be a waste of money as the camera cannot write that fast.

Picked up a 50mm f/1.8 D a couple of days ago and loving it. Since I shoot manually, I thought it's a better choice than the more expensive 50mm f/1.8 G.

A couple of clicks using the 50mm.

I've some old lenses in my home which used to be used with Nikon FM2.
I just opened the bag and it's some macro lens and 70-300mm lens (Nikon), the macro lens looks fungus free but the other one has a lot of fungus in it. How much is the cost of cleaning a lens?
Again, one more question. is it wise to sell my Canon 1100D and get a bit better Nikon body only so that I can use these?
Please advice.

Cleaning the lens depends upon the amount of fungus. Check with the service guys if it can be cleaned without damaging the lens coating. Not sure of the cost though.

You do not have to sell your Canon camera just to use the Nikon lens. You can get an adapter that will help you mount a Nikon lens on a Canon camera.

Thank you! How much does that cost BTW?

In that case, ignore my suggestion and try pressing your father for a d7000.[;)]
D7000, no way bro. The most important reason is that, I (we) very rarely go for trips nowadays. I capture pictures from my house mostly.[lol]
One more thing, if these lenses cannot be fixed, there is no way of buying a better one. Hope it can be. I need to wait for tomorrow since today is a harthal here.
BTW any idea on the price of cleaning?
And could you please tell me how much will these lenses cost today approx.?

Enjoy the day ! HAPPY Harthal /Bandh [frustration]. As you are in Kannur, you can go to VideoLinks
and ask them about the same. They are one of the best known for sales. They may be able to provide the link for service too. All your queries related to purchases of lens/camera will end there(related to price). They give best price (sometimes better than online) there.

You can watch Ben Long's Foundations of Photography - Lenses to see which lens suits you best before buying 'some' lens !
