lol.
I think it's worth for the price.

I think because I'm greedy[lol]
I can't take nice pics under slight low light condition ( most probably because of no IS). Noise at high ISO.
I know that I got what I paid for.
The problem is that, someone from another Forum who doesn't have a DSLR is saying that it's great and it's my fault.

I've uploaded one of my good pics. Could you please tell me how is it?

EDIT: Later he agreed.

Hello friends,

Joining the party late.. :). I am glad to be here on this thread. I am another enthusiastic guy with passion towards photography. But the reality is, I don't get enough time.. I explore out a lot and always carry my camera kit with me but when I spend more time in taking care of my kids rather than pursuing my passion. I stumbled upon this thread and thought I could learn some tips and tricks to keep my passion alive.

I am a Nikon Guy and own a D5100 along with 18-55 and 55-200mm VR lenses. Though I personally found the Canon image quality to be better than Nikon's, I don't get going together with Canon might be because I like the build of Nikon. How ever when it comes to P&S, I am great fan on Canon.

lol.

That's a nice one. I love the frame. Whats were the ISO, aperture and shutter speed on this shot?

Could someone please link me to a nice tripod?

Requirements:
Should hold 1100D with the standard 18-55mm lens
Should be cheap
Should stand on the ground firmly
Lightweight if possible

Without a tripod, I find it difficult to take a shakeless pic. Without IS, it's not that good (the lens) and I don't have IS in it.

The lowest quote I got is 4950 Rs...

.
Saw from smartshoppers on ebay. use ICICIFCC13 to get it for Rs. 4,510.50
I could not logon to TAI today. Sorry for seeing it /replying late. Even flipkart was selling 4990 and now they have increased the price to 6990 (if you search , you see 4990 in the link and while clicking the link, you see the revised price). [frustration]

By the way, how is your D7100 doing ?

@edios,
Get a IS lens brother. Tell Dad to buy a lens for you as a 'bday gift or their anniversary gift'. 15% off on standard chartered credit card from Flipkart. :) Make use of it !

Joke apart,
how much you want to spend on tripod ? Believe me, you wont use it even if you have.
You can watch some videos of 'how to hold the camera' to avoid shake while clicking. You even need to hold your breath while clicking it. Watch few of those.

Again - Remembering a famous movie dialogue "150Rs - Garden, 2 bed room, washing machine, A/C" - you know it !
When you pay less, you do not get great quality stuff. I got this . You can have a look this link or this (if you want it under 700rs)

If you are going to continue taking pictures to showcase the technical capabilities of your camera and your lens (like the one you posted), I would say invest in a good tripod.

On the other hand, if you want to use the capabilities of your camera to capture moments/memories in real life, I strongly recommend you to get a IS lens.

No issues. I need it only before my next trip. Thanks for the Ebay link. I hope it will be valid till next week.

I too saw the Flipkart google result and got fooled. The price I quoted was from Kunnur, at the time of buying the cam. So not too sure if it holds good now.

D7100 is doing good. Though I don't see any difference between D90 and D7100 as for as image quality is concerned. (unlike the huge difference in image quality between my P&S and D90). But then, who am I to comment on these subjects.

The new sensor is an advantage when it comes to cropping... I can crop further.

Adobe CS 5.5, which I use, does not support D7100's raw files. So I have to use adobe DNG converter to convert the NEF files to DNG files and then open with Adobe Camera Raw.

I still fumble with the zoom buttons while reviewing as the + and - buttons are reversed when comparing wth D90.

Battery life is ok. Didn't charge it during the trip. But D90 has better battery life.

+1

I have a tripod that is gathering dust... used it when I received it to test it and then carried it for a couple of trips without even taking it out of the boot. So now I do not even bother to take it.

Flipkart have brought their price back to 4990 and clubbed it with an offer 250 off. So the final price is 4740 rs. I have placed an order with them as I find their service reliable. Need to buy 2 more of these in the near future.

The reason for buying it immediately - Found a bird sitting close by the kitchen window this morning and grabbed the camera and the first card that I could get hold of, (4 gb class 4 [frustration] - the faster cards were full up), and the camera was slower than a point and shoot. Luckily the bird stayed in place letting me take enough shots.

Learned a valuable lesson... Always keep a charged battery and a formatted card in the camera ready for shooting. [;)]

Great :)

Flipkart service are / were reliable. Now they are allowing everyone to sell thru their site like ebay/shopclues/tradus/snapdeal etc etc. Other than WS Retail, it is pretty much same as other stores. I think smartshoppers (ebay) is there in snapdeal/rediff/ebay/tradus/shopclues too. In this case, the seller is WS retail and you will get the product in 1-2 days. If you had a standard chartered credit card, you could have saved another 15% by ordering above 10K :) (total 25% discount if your cart value is above 15K)

I have seen their service not-so reliable twice - Once they took 20 days after promising the delivery in two days (Motherboard). Second time, the CPU was an used one (could see the heatsink compound on cpu).

And,
All pro guys say "Get more number of memory cards of lesser size than buying less number of high storage memory cards."

You will be lazy to copy to computer if you have lot of storage on memory card. If that corrupt, you loose lot of images. If you have lesser size cards, you have no other option other than copying it. (I never copy to computer unless it get full [glasses])
My Verbatim gets corrupted once in a while.

I have only positive dealing with them and I shop only with WS Retail (that may be the reason).

Unfortunately, I do not use standard chartered cards. So missed out on that offer.

A 16gb card holds around 966 raw images in d90 while only 389 raw images in d7100. I usually do around 1000 clicks per day on trips. Since I will be sharing the clicks between the cameras, that might come down for each camera. Still, I will be using more of d7100 and will be using continuous shooting mode.

Pros do have to. And they will use the second slot as backup... their livelihood depends on the data in the card.[;)]

Another way of prevention of malfunction of cards due to ESD damage will be to keep the cards permanently in the camera and use the USB cable to transfer data without handling the card. Formatting the card, in camera, after every transfer might also help. Will try to follow that with the new card and see how it works out.[:)]

First of all,
Thank you for the 50mm lens which you gave me to test. I think it got few limitation with my D7000. It gave me FEE error. Later, searched in google and found that I need to keep that f-length in 22.
When you start typing FEE error in - you get suggestion of 'FEE error in D7000' :D

I think Low light, it performs better. Will try few things tomorrow.

Thanks again for giving your valuable time.

Oops, I forgot to tell you that you need to lock the aperture. I guessed as I had tried it with my D7100, it would be in locked position. It is not a limitation. By locking the aperture in the lens, you are giving the full aperture control to your camera.

You can also test shallow depth of field in good light, like portraits. Try using the tripod and self timer.

It was nice meeting you and exchanging ideas. I tried some of the videos that you gave me and I am sure the information in them will enhance my post processing to a great extent. Thank you very much for sharing them.[:)]
