Some very interesting numbers:

Car Brand - Petrol / Diesel

Ecosport - 1713 / 2199
Amaze - 3687 / 3711
City - 0 / 7184
Polo -1374 / 1294

* Ecosport and Amaze - I was thinking proportion of Diesel will be much higher
* City - Not even a single petrol car sold ? That's a big shock !
* Polo - Only car (apart from Superb) whose petrol variant is selling more than Diesel

For th New honda city, Honda was giving diesel delivery only on the first month and by this march only they started to give petrol varients.

Ecosport proportion had been much different if they were ready to give petrol varient and also there was not much waiting period.

Not a single petrol car for City cos most deliveries started in March. Am sure March sales figures will show a good amount of petrol city's.

Demand for diesel cars fall as prices inching towards petrol pricing.
35613745.jpg
Diesel is currently sold at Rs56.7 in Delhi, while petrol goes for Rs71.4, and going by the trend, the gap may narrow down to less than Rs10 in the next few months
Petrol cars are back in the reckoning even as the automobile sector encountered a slowdown where the car market shrank 5% last fiscal. In price-sensitive urban markets, that generate more than half of new car sales, diesel models have lost out because of their higher sticker price - priced almost a lakh higher than petrol variants - with customers preferring petrol options

I think only advantage of Diesel car (in this hiking rate) will be FE. If the companies could design a petrol engines which can deliver good FE (i think even now some of the petrol cars are offering 23 KM/L as FE) for sure lot of people will start looking into petrol which is safe to environment than diesel.

What about the policy of mixing some ethen or something (Not sure about the name) which will reduce environment pollution as well help govt to sell petrol in lessor price without subsidery

^^Disadvantages of these diesels are still there. More initial investment and the more maintenance expense compared to petrols. May be companies will reduce prize difference between diesels cars and petrols cars due to the reduced sales of Diesel cars.

Maruti already started this trend. 2 or 3 months before when we checked for a swift Vxi, showroom guys told there is no offers available for petrol but it is there for Swift diesel!.

I think trend slowly changing towards turbo petrol from turbo diesel.
i guess these new turbo petrol engines have better torque and better mileage.

Govt already doing the ethen mixing in petrol.

Yes, even I heard about turbo in petrol engines. Will it be possible to have turbo in existing petrol engines so that atleast FE increases (in that case I wont sell my sparky)[:D]

Any day it would be a petrol for me.Petrol driven cars are expensive considering the bucks you spend on fuel, but they deliver better driving experience with their smoother and quieter engines. And this is exactly what I pay for when I buy a car. Moreover petrol engine cars are cheaper to maintain and faster as well than their diesel counterparts.
Not many years ago, diesel engines offered poor performance compared to the petrol engines. Especially in acceleration, diesel engines were found lacking. Not anymore , thanks to turbocharged engines, multi-jets, common-rails and what not !! The initial pulling power of some of the diesel mills are worth a mention.
Petrol models give more HP which enable them to attain higher top speed and better figures of 0-60 kmph acceleration. The refined driving experience offered by the petrol engines still remains a priority for an auto enthu.
This is all i understand between petrol and diesel fueled car. It comes down to one's priority again. P.S I am not starting a debate. Someone had rightly said, this debate is as old as the evolution of petrol/diesel engine in the auto world.

Diesel is speculated to be deregularized soon. If you are in the market for a car wait a bit to get the clear picture on this.( Diesel Vs Petrol dilemma)
Read some where the under recovery of diesel has gone down to Rs 2.50/L now. So its good time to charge market prices.

But state owned PSUs are so cruel and greedy ,see the price of petrol, they kept on rising when when $ was falling and oil prices growing. But when opposite happened , no cuts in prices.

We seriously need more players in this sector.
