Fuel Efficiency: No ARAI FE figures upheld in advertisements. Yet it is efficient.

Value For Money: If this is not what you term as VFM, "Then there were none"

Looks and Design: Best looking in its category IMO. Limitations translated to nice elements.

Safety and Security: ABS standard. Safety pack in mid variant.

Comfort and Features: Endless list. Poor man's C-class in terms of features.

Engine and Performance: Superb diesel (NVH needs special mention) and three mode petrol (not a publicity stunt).

Brand image and aftersales support: The car that is about to change the brand image and substantial improvement in ASS.

And Yes it is.. My choice is Tata Zest[:D]

Voted for the Elite i20[clap] since it is a fully loaded hatch, an all round package.
Scores on a scale of 10
Fuel Efficiency - 8
Value For Money - 7.5
Looks and Design - 10
Safety and Security - 10
Comfort and Features - 8.5 (would have been 10 had they retained 6 air bags)
Engine and Performance - 9 (only for diesel)
Brand image and aftersales support -9.5

Voted for City.

Elite i20 came third in my ranking. Reasons why it didnt make it to No. 1
1. Mediocre Petrol engine + Not the best diesel in outright performance and drivability.
2. No auto box.
3. Feature cut compared to previous generation. - Sunroof, 6 airbags, etc.

Zest came close second. Reasons why it didnt make it to No. 1
1. Too much similarity to Vista from front + Boot integration not the best IMO - I am sure many might disagree but IMO Xcent and Amaze have a better boot sticking to it.
2. No safety features in the Diesel + AMT combo. Kills the purpose and novelty of offering a first in class feature. [frustration]

City in-spite of having some niggles reported, is the COTY IMO because
1. It offers excellent feature set - Sunroof, Keyless entry + go, very good audio system, touch screen ACC unit.
2. Excellent CVT box.
3. Offers safety features in all variants.
4. Superb petrol engine and a very good diesel engine - both with excellent fuel economy.
5. Class leading space and excellent back-seat comfort.

Voted for Zest. Undoubtedly the best package on offer. This car has multiple segments firsts which is unlike any other car currently offering all in one package.

There are close second which is Elite i20, and All new City.
Where are City is not completely new package, though it has robust Engine, there is not much done asthetically done on the image front, I prefer the original look.
Elite is much a new car, which has a premium feel, but what goes against it is price tag, and may be absence of the touch screen ICE, space, Engine, and multidrive modes. Zest scores over it in all these departments.

My vote thus goes for Zest.

I vote for Honda City because I feel it is a more complete car in that particular segment. Added to that, I don't think there a better (smoother and quieter) engine and transmission set-up than the City. Interior comfort is excellent on long drives.

I think TATA Zest is the surprise of the year. Without a doubt it was the best package in its class. Did a test drive and it definitely had the wow factor. Rising from the ashes - TATA Zest it is.[clap]

I love the Zest for what it really is. An honest car.

BUT I've voted for the I20 elite.
Reason: Well, I20 has the potential to dictate the design direction of future hatch backs. If I20 does well in the market (I think its a smash hit already for the price it retails at), it will force other manufacturers to consider the design aspect seriously. No more Vibe/Go/Etios..[;)]

No matter what others have to offer my vote goes for the Zest for two reasons:

1) You get exactly what you expect.
  • Elite i20 IMO feels like it will be a hoot to drive but it is dead when it comes to petrol. And it lost some features too!!
  • Ciaz looks luxurious but never feels the same after a 100 km ride.
  • Honda City is a fantastic package and is better than the Zest IMO. But that all aluminium diesel mill puts me off(Dunno why but that mill sounds weird to me). In fact I'd have voted for City itself is it is a way better product but my reason number 2 adds some more points to the Zest and gives it slight edge over the City.

2) An honest attempt by Tata Motors
Hyundai, Honda etc all were well established players enjoying a good reputation and their cars were selling. Tata on the other hand was struggling and was suffering with a bad reputation. This is when they launched the Zest, a car that can teach others some lessons:
  • Hyundai: How to calibrate steering and make it feel some.
  • Honda: How to tune suspension and find a perfect compromise between low and high speed ride.
  • Maruti Suzuki: How to make truly spacious and comfortable cars and offer them at a mouth watering price.

The below three cars where in contention:

a. Hyundai Elite
b. Tata Zest
c. Honda City

Hyundai Elite - Great package by Hyundai. One of the feature rich car and fit to be winner

Honda City - It blows away all competition and miles ahead in its segment. A complete package

Tata Zest - VFM package. An honest attempt by Tata. As it is a product for change it got my vote.
