Re: The ‘Urbano Bestia’. My Ford Ecosport 1.5 TDCI Titanium!

Feature update: The Ecosport has one more useful feature which I discovered today. It was raining and had my from wipers on, and while reversing, found that the rear wiper to starts automatically. It works in conjunction with the front wipers while reversing, a very neat thoughtful feature.
Also when you press the third, so called dummy button on the key fob twice, it opens the boot and remember the car has to be in UN-locked state. Find this feature very useful during security checks, malls, etc..[clap]
If anyone else has discovered any other features, please do share.

Sure, please see the attached pics. The sun films were installed by the dealer for approx Rs3000/- and they are Ford and RTO approved. They have mentioned it on the front windshield '' This vehicle is equipped with Garware sun control film and is as per motor vehicles rule 1989''.

Btw, what is the mileage you are getting?

I thought, sunfilms of any kind or make are banned in India as per the SC verdit.[roll]. Infact, in Kerala a few months back the motor vehicle department had issued an ultimatum in a statement saying they would go even to an extend of cancelling the registration of the erring vehicle.

VJroadie,
Congratulations on the new car! The Ecosport is a brilliant package and I'm waiting on my Titanium (O) TDCI as well.
Please keep sharing more pictures and updates whenever you can.

Can you comment on the build quality of the vehicle? Have you come across any rattles/squeaks?

The sunfilm installed is approved by RTO as well as Ford motor company. No cops in any states can ban this. That is why Garware is providing a small sticker to be pasted on the front windshield. You CAN install this sunfilm without any worry[:)] See pic below.

@Frisson: Thank you for your wishes. The Ecosport is indeed an Excellent, feature loaded car. To be honest, it rattles when I place my sunglasses in the sunglass holder and its quite disturbing because the entire cabin is quite silent. Apart from this when I ride over some rough patch, the rear parcel tray does rattle a bit but its not worrisome[:)]
This vehicle is a TANK. I will rate the quality 9/10, its heavily built. You can imagine it weighs roughly around 80 to 100kgs more than the Renault duster which is again one size big car than Ecosport!

Have seen here that any kind of sunfilm is banned and is peeled off by the cops, even if there is this sticker stating this, as have seen cops carrying the copy of orders which mentions any kind of sun films is banned on imposing on vehicles.

Well looks like the cops have taken for granted and oppose any kind of sunfilms. They must follow the law and order if they don't we must make them follow by legal action!

Sunfilm ban
I think the use of sun film is really banned by SC but it is hardly implemented in most of our states. I suppose Bangalore is following this pretty strictly as per reports. Here in Kolkata there is no action yet. See, the issue is, this verdict was not publicized properly. And the government has not put a ban on the industry itself. So as long as it is not publicized and actions are not taken everywhere, the industry will thrive and our dealers will also try to make a quick buck by selling them. Heck, even the accessories guy won't probably know the rule.
I, for one, have not put one in my new ecosport, although it would have come extremely handy in the Kolkata climate and I could also get away with it.

I will have to investigate this story now. I have installed after repeatedly clarifying with my dealer. And if its the dealer who is trying to make quick bugs, I will screw him, if not then I am relieved. He was quite confident at the time of installing the sunfilms. Will keep you all updated on this after meeting my dealer.

SC has banned it, and no notice pasted on the windshield can overcome that. You can read the judgement here:
Welcome to ANSWERING LAW : India's Premier Portal for Lawyers, Students, NRI's and Public : SUPREME COURT JUDGMENT ON SUN CONTROL FILMS

According to the petitioner, this Court should issue a writ or direction requiring use of such safety glasses on the windows/windshields in vehicles having 100 per cent Visual Light Transmission (for short ‘VLT’) only and, to that extent, the petitioner challenges the correctness of Rule 100 of the Motor Vehicles Rules, 1989 (for short “the Rules”).
27. For the reasons afore-stated, we prohibit the use of black films of any VLT percentage or any other material upon the safety glasses, windscreens (front and rear) and side glasses of all vehicles throughout the country. The Home Secretary, Director General/Commissioner of Police of the respective States/Centre shall ensure compliance with this direction. The directions contained in this judgment shall become operative and enforceable with effect from 4th May, 2012.

Congrats vj roadie for your ES.

Does the the third, so called dummy button on the key fob work in the Lower ends. I mean will it work in the Trend and Ambient? Any idea?

Interesting, especially the sticker.
Well, the Cops are just following the laws and the verdict of SC. Hope, by now you must have understood the purpose of my earlier post.[:)]
Its shame that you didn't make use of our forum, as we do have a dedicated thread for the same purpose, before going ahead installing those sunfilms on your new possession.
You may visit this thread for more details:http://www.theautomotiveindia.com/forums/indian-auto-news/7396-supreme-court-s-order-no-sunfilms-allowed-4th-may-2012-a-60.html

Keep us updated on this, after your visit to the dealer.
Personally I would straight away get it removed at the dealership itself after having Rs. 3k refunded and of course, do educate them about the SC verdict in case they are ignorant about it.

There's nothing to be ashamed about it @ ManojDungat, I have read each and every thread of my interest depending on my time availability. And I haven't ignored your earlier post, I just said what I have got from the dealer.

I will find out if its really a dealer gimmick on making money or its the government who has allowed films with 70%plus transparency and hence Ford motor company. I will revert back to you when I get some concrete info on the same.
