Well now with Aspire launched at good price, i feel Zest numbers will go from bad to Worst. And these posts on forums complaining about quality issues further dent customer confidence.

Somebody on Tata Zest FB page posted the following :
Music System by HARMAN is bad quality, cheap fitting which are coming out plus horrible software which re-sets the system all the time.
Really? Harman is used in luxury cars like that of Audi BMWs etc. I have heard Harman and can confidently say that they are the best in the segment. Now whoever is saying that is definitely who doesn't have zest and out to ruin the car. Being on the Facebook need to check the authenticity of the post.

Now coming to replacement of the struts. i guess its mechanical failure. But didn't Tata do it? I bet they must have done free of charge. If tata have to be blamed for quality, what would you say on mass recall by the likes of Toyota on airbags? wasn't it taken by the stride? They why Tata? This is one off issue.

Tata as a car brand is like sitting duck slight bad mouthing and people shun them like untouchables. Really sad to see that.

Good job on pricing Ford but still i was kind of disappointed with my requirement. My first and foremost requirement is ABS with Driver + Passenger airbag since most of my trips are done with me and my wife. Now lets shortlist the cars which are fulfilling my base requirement.

My trips are mainly city and rarely highway. So I'm going to settle with Petrol. I've omitted Sail, Etios, Elite i20, jazz since it was over my budget and not interested in hatchbacks in the CS category.

Ford Figo Aspire Titanium - 6.70
Ford Figo Aspire Titanium Plus - 7.25
Tata Zest XMS - 5.71
Tata Zest XT - 6.29
Maruti Suzuki Dzire ZXi - 6.81
Honda Amaze 1.2 SX i-VTEC - 6.49
Honda Amaze 1.2 VX i-VTEC - 6.88
Honda Amaze 1.2 VX (O) i-VTEC - 7.33
Hyundai Xcent SX 1.2 - 6.61
Hyundai Xcent SX 1.2 (O) - 6.87

Out of all these, Zest XMS is what my mind tells me. If i want all the bells and whistles I can opt for zest xt and i can add almost all of the accesories i needed and equal to the price of Titanium/Zxi/Xcent SX/ Amaze SX.

I think the zest is still the king of value for money. According to me ABS scores more weight than airbag. But to a novice driver like me i need both to have a peace of mind journey.

I think Aspire missed a trick by not offering ABS in trend variant. I was hoping for it but i was too much ambitious.

I kind of agree with Ratheesh.
If some one has money and ready to spend then Ford is fine.
But for someone who looks for more value for their money - most of us are like that [:)] - Zest is a better option.

The difference between base and top variants of Zest is 1.5 lakhs and they have 4 variants.
While in case of Ford, there are four variants as well but the difference between its base and top end is 2.5 lakhs.

So variant to variant comparison - the delta is more.

People who were already using Tata vehicles or fans already purchased the vehicles (zest) and now rest are in observation mode and waiting for the longterm ownership reviews. Thus the sales are down for zest however i believe we will see catching up as the reviews are positive and owners are really happy with Tata zest and other new product. Tata will bounce back and upcoming Kite will give right push to the brand.

Dunno why but even my mind also says the same. I also believe that being a good product; the Zest will slowly pick the pace once a larger number of prospective buyers are aware of the car and its niggle free nature. Actually Zest is still selling despite of a badge on the nose which people love to ignore more than anything else and still it is managing to draw 2000 'private' buyers without any sales in taxi segment.

On the other hand the dzire, xcent and amaze are making good numbers in both the segments.

I always felt that with around 32K zests on roads and that too niggle free product the word of mouth must be happening for Zest. Inspite of being a Tata brand (which people love but in some others garage) I could say Zest has managed average numbers.

Irony is that there are more swifts and etios than Indicas as Taxis running these days however, Tata cars are still percieved as Taxi cars where are people are happy with purchasing the new taxi king Dzire.

The Main reason for me not buying Swift/Dzire,was that they are too common now. And there are just so many D'sire/Swift Taxis now.

Pretty soon we will hear stories of niggles about dzire as well as i believe that Tata's still can take abuse better than tin cans of maruti.

That will be the time when Tata will come back strong with new car line up.

Interestingly I was talking to a cab operator few days back as he is planning to buy few more cabs and he was talking about the positives of Tata Sumo and was bashing xylo for inferior in all terms after owning most of them in his fleet. I asked him whether he is looking for Sumo for the cheap price tag? He replied that it is cheap option only if I talk about Innova pricing but comparing with other options in the market sumo is the king in all departments with low price. Even Innova can take abuse upto some extent but Tata is built to last with very low maintainance bills. Cr4 mill is a gem and now the ride is also improved. Even he said that it was just a wrong wave against Tata some time back but now people realized that Tata is still King maker.

Well the thing with Zest is that there is very little or no promotion, they could really use a marketing team that does more to sell their products. The numbers for Zest are dropping day by day and day by day i keep hearing more complaints about how the service centers aren't solving the problems (yes even with Zest). I think it is partly due to the overwhelming number of indica's they have to service on a daily basis. Wish they launched something like NEXA for Zest and Bolt it would have made more sense and also changed the brand perception.

Could be other way around, they should introduce dealership/service centers for cab operators/taxi market and give them cost effective service. By this way they can cater both the markets effectively... Just a thought.

And on complaints from some dealers bcoz the same old attitude of the owners and mechanics and once you get bad mouthed it will take time to improve in public even if you give best of the best service.

Well, in the times to come, Zest sales will definitely pick up it may not even become a segment SECOND.
Not because its not a good car, in fact I am so convinced that I am planning to buy Zest in forthcoming days.
But what it will do eventually is that it will build a trust bridge over the gaps that has been created over the years. And slowly TATA will gain a lot from its future launches. And I wish this becomes true as soon as possible assuming that TATA continues putting its genuine efforts in improvement as it has been doing for that last 18 months or so.
