Hi all -
What can be the worst/extreme impact of this 'mud-in engine-bay' issue ?
is it of type 'need-fix-asap' or 'can-wait' type ?

I'm totally new to automobiles stuff, so pls excuse me for ignorance. [:)]

Its a defective design.

Solution seems to be simple. But i guess TML will do proper testing with the proposed fix and will take some time to reach us.

In the last pic I've posted, you can see the gap been see though the engine bay. They can just raise the height of that circular portion and the issue will be resolved.
we could fix it if we are good at welding works[glasses]

I could have tried with some covering temporarily, but didnt want to take risk as any additional cloth or cardboard inside engine bay might invite trouble[thinking].
Using Welding to fix it would not be advisable, as you will be increasing the weight disproportionately at both the front wheels and metal parts there would invite heavy corrosion. I think extended plastic cover would do the job. Tata seems to have kept a large gap instead of keeping a hole just sufficient to allow suspension coil to pass through. This is silly cost cutting.[anger]

I think this can be fixed by pasting some plastic/fibre bit by cutting it to fit the empty space near wheel cover. Or near the engine bay where it is entering, if the entry space is less, we can try closing that.

A how is the performance when you rev it as compared to dezire and fit and finish of the car.
There is a huge difference. I think the 89 BHP and VGT does the trick here. In dezire I used to floor the pedal, but with zest with half the way, I get the acceleration that I need.
I didnt start continuously redlining as its still under 2000 KMS. Badly want to the press it down to floor, but eagerly waiting for a few more kilometers to do so.
Fit and finish is good according to me. In some review, I have heard them saying materials could have been improved.
I've never driven any luxury cars yet to compare, but have driven or been inside most which comes under 10L. And out of it, I will rate this the best.

I've driven on very bad roads already, and there is no single sound from plastics or other parts yet.

The mud is getting on the back part of headlight assembly and its looking bad. I have a gut feeling that it might lead to short circuit. Other than the headlights, I dont think anything else will be effected by this.
Its a need fix ASAP. But it shouldnt stop anyone from buying zest because, it can be easily fixed with a few extra cladding.

I didnt think about the weight part[glasses] .Dont think its a cost cutting measure. Its a bug in the design.

How much did they charge you for the seat covers ?
Any other accessories you took ?
I was charged 5200 for seat covers. They are giving 3 years warranty and it feels good to sit.
I was proud to see my choice of design was perfectly matching the car interiors [:D]
I bought mobile holder/Charger from flipkart. and one floor mat which I'm awaiting delivery today or tomorrow.

Congrats Harish it is a brilliant car. One thing i wanted to know isn't the tachometer marked too high for a diesel? I mean 8000 RPM is a dream for any diesel engine.

Heartiest congratulations Harish for your blue zest, looks brilliant.
First diesel ownership thread. Wishing you many happy miles with your zest and looking forward to see some more pictures of your car.
I am sure tata motors would come up with a solution of that gap.Did you got a feedback call after the delivery?
Do share this issue so that company gets heard and comes out with the solution at earliest.

Currently Im not in a position to comment on it as I didnt try revving it to the limits.
All I can say is till 3k-4k it goes like a breeze.
Will let you know when I'm mentally and my zest is physically ready to explore the higher limits

@Harish - I had read somewhere that Harmon Kardon on XT supports navigation through your mobile GPS... have you explored that?

Manza had a inbuilt GPS with the Touch Screen system. They should've continued that in Zest. Dont want to go for an external GPS like Garmin / MapmyIndia [frustration]

Ive been after this information for a long time.
In the Zest launch day also MapMyIndia tie up was mentioned.
Ive read somewhere that XT model will be up gradable to support GPS navigation.
Even a article in Tata website long before, have mentioned GPS in zest.

But when checked multiple time with SA, it was mentioned no information as of now.
May be in future they can add support to GPS data with SD card.
Ive mailed zest support and checked with the sales lead. No one has any information.
If there was any authentic TML person to whom we can give genuine feedback and clear such queries, it would have been great

Doesn't this intrude with the gear shifter ?
Does it come with the micro USB to USB cable as well ?

Try tweeting Pratap Bose and Ranjith Yadav from TML

I could see this during Auto Expo and was very much excited.
