Re: Brand New Sedan Class (Vista QJD VX): 2.6 Years, 62,000+ Kms

Exactly Three Years back, Whity reached home on the same day(16th April 2012).

Years are passing very fast and it is hard to believe that three years passed with Whity.

In these three years, I have covered more places and more places are yet to be covered with Whity.

Whity is my perfect highway partner and she does her job well and Good.

Me and my Parents are fully satisfied with Whity[:)]

Hello Appu,

Awesome job on tail lamps for your whity!

Regarding brakes of your 800 - > for city driving the normal brakes are fine, if not upgrade to the booster -> saves a lot of effort while driving (ease on knees).

If the steering of your m800 is hard/require more effort, then replace front tyres with new (145/70R12) tyres, my car steering was like truck before I got new tyres, now its awesome.

Re: Tata Vista QJD Ownership Review: Brand New Sedan Class (3 Years + 76K Kms)

Appu@

How you feel the driving experince of Vista, compared to swift? Though i never felt the Vista vx (of my friend) is slower, but last week in a 60km short trip with both car(A/c&5 people each in both car), i(driving Vista) had to do more gear changes to keep up with swift, though we never crossed 100 km/hr in the 4 lane highway with moderate traffic.

Yes, I too agree that Vista needs frequent gear shits than Swift.

As Swift Turbo lag is very minimum, there is no need to downshift to keep up with other car in Highway. whereas Vista Turbo lag is heavy, so we need to downshift to keep Vista in Turbo Zone. Then only we can keep up with other car.

Vista is felt sluggish because of heavy turbo lag. In Turbo zone, Vista takes off really well and we can play with it.

Re: Tata Vista QJD Ownership Review: Brand New Sedan Class (3 Years + 76K Kms)

^^ How it performs with 90BHp engine? especially Zest? Is it better than Swift in this area? Any experiance? Though i didnt felt it with manza and ertiga too, But I driven manza only less than 20 kms and driven Ertiga without any passengers.

BTW Maruti increasing the fuel efficiency year by year for all this multijet engine models(like, Swift,Ertiga & Ciaz) without effecting performance much. Didnt see any progress in tata vehicles(with multijet engine) though.

Dirven Zest QJD and Bolt REVETRON.

Myself, my Friend and my Dad is impressed with it. There acceleration is very linear and there is very very minimal turbo lag. Not like Vista/Manza Zest is really peppy to drive.

Yes, There is no improvement in FE on TATA cars(Vista/Manza), because of its weight and Tuning. Even Fiat cars are very sluggish in Turbo lag.

When I asked the same with Fiat regarding the performance. They said "QJD's are heavy in Turbo lag, that is its nature and Maruthi is tuning it for better performance. That will affect the life of the Engine"

Few things needs to be changed:
1.Stock Clutch(76,500Kms)
2. Shock absorbers.(Some tar tar sound over speed beakers)
3. Front Brake discs(Steering Wobbling while breaking at high speeds)

Are you sure on the clutch part? 76K and that too mostly on highways is quite early.

And the shocks are stock ones and never changed? Then it's really a good life.

Yes, Clutch is already became hard and I used to it.

I don't feel 76k is too early. It is normal for a car which drives city + Highways continuously.

Yup, Shocks are stock and there is no other issue expect the noise over speed breakers.

I feel, the clutch should last to 90 - 100K in normal scenario and over 100K if predominantly used for Highway drives (eg: Taxis). Have a couple of friends running taxis and their clutches last for 120-140K, generally. Whereas one of the Innova went up to 170K too [clap]

Hardness - Yes, it gets hard over a period of time and usage, especially with diesels. However, it ain't a sign for worn clutch. Vista has hydraulic clutch I suppose and you can ask them to bleed it properly to see the difference.

Did you try the basic "Clutch Shlip" test to check it's life?

Yup, Shocks are stock and there is no other issue expect the noise over speed breakers.
Wow, that's a great life [cheers]

Re: Brand New Sedan Class (Vista QJD VX): 2.6 Years, 62,000+ Kms

Find my answers in bold:

You are right, the error percentage is high(2.3%) with 185/65/R14 and for 185/60/R14 is 0.3%.

But reducing the side wall height will lead to stiff suspension, but It will provide better handling, But comfort level will reduce a bit.

With 185/65/R14, The comfort level remains the same, even we can say, it is improved.

after all, the GC has increased with 185/65/R14. I never had a scrap after upsizing the tyres.

My suggestion: If you are going to 185/60/R14, please let me know, how you feel with 185/60/R14. so that I can think about 185/60/R14 for my next set of tyres[:D].

If you ask me how is 185/65/R14, I can say, it is good and comfy and I never mind going for 185/65/R14 again[;)]
Appu, Nice to know that 185/65/R14 has not lead to any negative issues. I am sure it would have improved the handling slightly. Also, good to know that the wheel well was able to accommodate the tyre and that there was no scrapping.

I would suggest that 185/65 might be better than 185/60 as 185/60 might reduce the GC and possibly there is greater pressure on the side-walls.

Couple of questions.
1. Is your spare also the same spec? I have read comments that 185/65/r14 might not fit into the existing boot and it might protrude?

2. Have you used synthetic oil at all during your service? Or is it purely mineral oil? If it's purely mineral oil then how frequently you change the oil?

Even we can fix R15 tyres. such a big gap is there [;)]

My spare tyre is stock tyre(175/65/R14). As we are going for R14 with 185/65. The tyres are fitting perfectly on boot. there are no issues in it. even there is some space available to keep jacky/spanner and some items.

2. Have you used synthetic oil at all during your service? Or is it purely mineral oil? If it's purely mineral oil then how frequently you change the oil?
Nope. From the day 1, I'm using Mineral oil only. even some mechs asked me to go for Synthetic. But, I feel there won't will be much difference with synthetic oil if I change now. As, I Already crossed 75K Kms with mineral oil, I decided to continue the same.

I'm changing the oil in 10-12k kms interval.

Innova is always at top on reliability.

I feel 60k is the average life time of most of the cars. few of my friends/relatives changed the clutch around 60-70K kms. One of my uncle's Innova clutch has been changed at 150K kms.

Anyways it all depends on the way we drive the car. I won't drive the car with half clutch. But, my dad used to drive with half clutch in city traffic.

Will check with TASS to bleed the clutch.

Did you try the basic "Clutch Shlip" test to check it's life?
Yup, Checked the clutch slip test. The car was trying to move as usual and found noting strange.

Yup, though the part quality is a prime factor, usage is equally another factor as well.

Actually, if the clutch is good, it should stall. Just mentioning about the test for everyone's benefit.

  • Stand still and engage the "handbrake"
  • Switch on, engage to 3rd Gear and slowly release the clutch while the handbrake is still no.
  • If the car tries to move, judder and finally stalls, the clutch is good. If it moves, it's time up.
