Re: Tata Tiago Petrol XZ - A Layman's Review: 20,000 Kms Update

Now i can feel the compressor getting on frequently. It's really jerky at times. I think that will get settled after some time?

Compressor is supposed to run ON and OFF which is by design. I am not sure if I am following you right, please explain in detail.

Re: Tata Tiago Petrol XZ - A Layman's Review: 20,000 Kms Update

My Tiago crossed 24K this week and serving us as faithfully as always. I had to visit ASC to check the below:
- Clutch felt hard, especially after driving a new batch Tiago. I guess it's just greed. They did some tests and declared it worked fine.
- Rear wheel well area was making a 'krrrrrk' noise when people came out of the back seats. They came back saying suspension is alright and have lubricated it (later learned there is nothing to lubricate in suspension). Before driving home, I did ask two of their heavy weight folks to sit in rear seats and get down to make sure there was no such noise.

Regarding the *krrrk* sound, was it coming with handbrake applied? I had same issue in Fiesta and they greased the cable.

I got this from another friend as well, yet to check with the handbrake applied. Thanks for the tip [:)].

25K Covered:
Car has covered 25000 KM on 25th March during our trip to Valparai. As usual, I missed to click ODO on time. I noticed it only when clicking pics at the end of the trip:

A sneak peak from our trip. Will make a short post on the trip with more photos later:

Acceleration Problem:
Off late I have been noticing uneven power delivery (kinda like jerks) between 1700 and 1900 RPM range, very much noticeable in 3rd gear. This is evident only under sedate acceleration (or holding engine between said RPM range) and won't be felt with strong acceleration. ASC folks checked the spark plugs and found slight traces of oil. Initial impression was to replace cylinder head but after they opened further, it was decided against replacement. Instead, all spark plugs were replaced and they test ran my car for a day. They were also going to change a minor part that is out of stock and will call me once it arrives.

Next day I was called around 4pm for pick up but I could not do a test run with them as it was late to leave for my native place. Had I done a test run, I would not have taken the car back at all. The jerks are even more evident than earlier and felt annoying to drive. Called them up about this and will have to visit again for further troubleshooting, once the out of stock part reaches them [frustration].

Here is the invoice copy. I had requested to change the clutch due to its heaviness when compared to latest batches. As expected, new clutch has a better biting point and softer play.

Best of luck with that ever-illusive gasket.
They kept car with them for over a week and changed cylinder head of my XZA (when it was only 5K KMs young), still nothing happened.
Jerks are still there, although not immediately after the first crank in morning. 3rd service is due this month and I'll change the service station this time to see if that helps.

So I'm not alone here [:D]. Are your jerks same as mine or a different kind? I'm glad to have bought extended warranty during purchase. Pretty sure these guys are learning with our cars, with much less technical know-how or training.

During last winter morning cranks used to be longer than usual and then jerks were quite apparent in 1st and 2nd gears for some 15 minutes. After which they get milder and less frequent. But during sudden burst of accelerations jerks were pretty bad.

Oil was noticed in one of the spark-plug bays and gasket was searched for replacement but they could not procure it as it is still not being manufactured! They chose to change the cylinder head coz it comes with factory fitted gasket and asked me to run-in for some 20-25 KMs. Yes, 20-25 KMs. I did that for over 200 KMs and found that jerks have reduced in intensity and are less frequent. But till date these have not vanished completely. Occassionally, during 1200-2000 RPMs jerks become quite apparent.

Another thing I am getting irritated of is the flat spot between 1500-2000 RPMs when starting in second gear after a speed-breaker. Car doesn't gives any response till throttle is increased till 2000-2200 RPMs. Have you noticed it?

Is your car engine smooth in reverse gears? I hear a continuous "krrrr" sound from front end during slow reverse, and it gets suppressed a bit during slightly fast reverse speeds. Is itr same with you too?!

I too have had longer crank times sporadically, started about few months ago. The jerks however, are not on a wider RPM range as yours, at least not before they replaced spark plugs. Now they are felt as low as 1500 RPM [frustration].

I hardly run on speed breakers with 2nd gear so no issues there. Tiago's low end is a dud so I shift down to 1st whenever speed drops near 10kph (also I run with family most of the time).

Nope, but I do have the signature whining sound when reversing. No need for a reverse gear buzzer [lol].

Hey suffering from the same problem. A little bit of jerks at 3rd gear, but Tata service adviser were not able to find anything. Kindly let me know what should be done. Yesterday I wasted my whole day at Tata with 3 spark plugs replaced

Hey Ankush, I sure will report on further developments of my issue/resolution. Going by Sachin's episode, I am losing hope on my TASC at this time. I am going on a road trip tomorrow so I will get to know how bad it gets after warming up.
May I ask which month/year is your Tiago manufactured?

I bought it on July 21st 2016 and the manufacturing is June 2016.
I just cancelled my road trip because of this issue, was heading towards north.
