Re: Tata Tiago Petrol XZ - A Layman's Review

Few Observations Worth Sharing:
  • [*]Reverse Gear Harman Bug - Toggles Pause/Resume function
Play music via bluetooth > Slot into reverse gear > Music volume is reduced to let park assist be heard > Slot out of reverse gear > Music is paused instead of continuing to playback.
On the flip side, if music was already paused before slotting into reverse, slotting out of reverse will resume playback. Hopefully this software bug is crushed in the new 1.4 version firmware.

    [*]ECU Prevents Engine Stalling
Credits to Damodar Rao (from Tiago WhatsApp group) who observed in his Tiago.
Tiago's ECU prevents the engine from stalling when RPM reduces considerably. It automatically maintains RPM levels to keep the engine running. Tested this by moving the car from stand still and taking off feet from accelerator and clutch; the car keeps crawling rather than abruptly stalling.

[*]Bonus Wipe by Wash & Wipe
Engage wash and wipe function by pulling the LHS stalk. Once you release the stalk, wiping stops after 3 cycles, and then you get a bonus wipe after 5 seconds to clean off any left over washer liquid.

[*]AC Air Intake Defaults to Re-circulation Mode
The air intake selector is defaulted to ON position (re-circulation) every time the key is inserted. I personally prefer this to be OFF to let fresh air flow at least for the first few minutes.

    [*]Fog Lamps Needs Company
Head light stalk should be in parking or headlight mode for fog lamps to work. Can't use it as stand alone without additional lights being lit.

    [*]Headlamp Auto Shuts Off
Leave the headlights in ON position and remove the key. Headlights will go off and parking lights will lit up instead, along with an audible reminder.

    [*]Automatic Boot Lamp
I found this just now while referring the user manual to check above findings. If the boot lamp switch is left at ON position, it will be automatically lit when the hatch is opened. However, they did not mention if it auto shuts off when the hatch locks back in.

Thank you so much for sharing these [:)]

[*]ECU Prevents Engine Stalling
I believe this feature is available in all cars nowadays. Have you tried this in second gear?

[*]Bonus Wipe by Wash & Wipe
Have seen this feature only in my in-law's old Fiesta and it proves to be helpful because it wipes out the dripping excess water. Is this feature available also for rear washer & wiper?

[*]Fog Lamps Needs Company
I noticed this one during my test drive, however the showroom person was not aware of this and he though the Fog lamp switch got kaput. I had to explain him how it works [frustration]

Didn't have the guts to try this in second gear, will give it a shot soon

Indeed, it's a handy feature. Not present for rear wash & wipe though.

I've tried this in various cars. My verna (car moves in even third gear without stalling, could be due to the extra diesel torque[roll]), my bro's xcent 1.2 (car stalled in third gear though), my in-law's Fiesta 1.4 Duratec (same as the kappa engine; car stalled in third gear)

Is this feature available in other new cars? [confused]

You have tested quite a few cars there [thumbsup]

Sorry bro, I do not know the answer to this.

Same with XUV 500, Tata ARIA , toyota fortuner. Guess its common these days.

[*]Bonus Wipe by Wash & Wipe
Engage wash and wipe function by pulling the LHS stalk. Once you release the stalk, wiping stops after 3 cycles, and then you get a bonus wipe after 5 seconds to clean off any left over washer liquid.

Same as in XUV 500. Quite useful.

[*]AC Air Intake Defaults to Re-circulation Mode
The air intake selector is defaulted to ON position (re-circulation) every time the key is inserted. I personally prefer this to be OFF to let fresh air flow at least for the first few minutes.

That is great! XUV AC when in AUTO MODE, switches default to Fresh air mode. (Which brings in Dust/Smell etc) I always have to press it into recirculation. [frustration]
    [*]Fog Lamps Needs Company
Head light stalk should be in parking or headlight mode for fog lamps to work. Can't use it as stand alone without additional lights being lit.
This is normal behaviour. Its the same in all vehicles.

Re: Tata Tiago Petrol XZ - A Layman's Review

Hello guys,

I'm Abhisek from Bangalore. I was contemplating to buy a car around 5.5lakhs. I have an i10 kappa at my native place. I tried out cars like celerio, wagon r top model, i10 sportz 1.1 and tiago petrol at that range.

To be honest, celerio and wagon r dont't have that car feel at all. i10 already have at home and too old model.

I am in love with Tiago. I have driven my cousine's Grand i10 alot and love that car. Tiago has similar feel and nice feel. After testing Tiago, testing Celerio and sitting in wagon r was terrible.

I am looking at XT model since XZ and xt or higher diesels are out of range.

XZ music system is best And mesmerizing. Haven't heard anything like that even in expensive cars.

But I am skeptical about the mileage. People have reported 9-10kmpl on the forums for petrol. This is a place where celerio does well. Tiago Diesel has fantastic reviews. Also heard about vibrations in petrolbut my test drive vehicle was too good. I don't have much confidence on petrol engine of Tiago especially about FE. Would appreciate if everyone of you can share long term mileage review and about accuracy of MID.

Also please let me know common niggles.

Hi Abhisek,
Being a 3 pot engine, mileage varies dramatically with driving manners. From what I have experienced in 5500 KM, B2B traffic with AC will yield only around 10-13 kmpl while highway runs will easily get 18+ kmpl when driven sedately. My average hovers around 16kmpl when calculated by tank full method with 75% highway (dual carriageway) and 25% city with some B2B traffic. MID's FE is 15% off almost much all the time (see screenshot below).
Vibrations are felt more during idle and at low rev/high load combo. This topic being subjective, I suggest you connect with owners in Bangalore and check out their rides. Please send a request to join ATOM Tiago Owners club @ facebook and I can get yourself connected to few owners.
Few common niggles can be found here: http://www.theautomotiveindia.com/f...99-tata-tiago-technical-issues-solutions.html

Re: Tata Tiago Petrol XZ - A Layman's Review

Hi Prabhagar,

Read your ownership review. It is crisp yet detailed. Thanks for that.

I have booked Tata Tiago XZ Petrol on October 11th. Expecting delivery of the car by november end. This is my first car. I accidentally came across your ownership report via google and reading your review made it all the more clear and now i am more happier with mydecision to have booked this car.

Coming to the accessories, as i am a newbie to cars, i am planning to buy the accessories listed by you alongwith OEM seat cover sans the dashcam.
It is indeed a gift for new car buyers like me to have these information upfront.

I am looking to buy a child seat for my daughter that could be fixed safely in Tiago. Unfortunately, Tiago doesn't come with ISOFIX mounts. So we had to device a way to fix the child seat securely.
Could you please provide more details on the child seat of yours? Possibly with the link to Amazon just like your other accessories link.

Thanks again for the wonderful ownership review and the follow-on updates.

Hi Santhosh,
Congrats on your Tiago booking, you have made the right decision. I am glad my review helped your purchase decision. Feels satisfied at heart [:)].

Good deal, make sure you get to see the seat covers in a display car or another customer's car before buying one. Some models do not have a perfect fit.

I too miss those ISOFIX/LATCH mounts very much, wonder why they decided not to include them [frustration]. Anyways, I use Graco Snugride ClickConnect 30 without the base (purchased in USA while I used to live there). I followed the user manual to install it using the standard 3 point safety belt mechanism along with the provided H clip. Now that my daughter is growing out of it, I have started the hunt for a replacement. Since you didn't mention your daughter's age, I am listing my findings so far which should help you get started.
  • LuvLap Premiere: Purchased from Amazon and returned it as it appeared to be typical Chinese made. No proper user manual, sticky seat fabric, unsatisfactory build quality.
  • Jack N Jill by R for Rabbit: Ordered from FirstCry online and is in-transit. This too is a Chinese make but appears to be good based on user reviews.
  • Babyoye Cosmo Sp: Saw this in a BabyOye retail store and found the build/comfort pretty good. Deferred the purchase just because of their color choices available in store & online. It had a "Made in France" label which inspired more confidence in me. If Jack N Jill turns out to be a disappointment, this would be my final choice.
  • Graco Coast: Expensive, couldn't find in my city to check it out. Expensive too.
  • Chicco Eletta: Expensive, probably due to import duties.
  • Chicco Gro Up 123: Same as above
Being a niche market in India, we don't have enough choices both from model and pricing stand points. Pricing starts at ₹4000 to ₹6000 (LuvLap, Mee Mee, R for Rabbit, SunBaby etc) but then jumps all the way to ₹13000+ (Graco, Chicco and the likes).
Also check out this post by Akash for some general information on child seats.
Thanks again for the wonderful ownership review and the follow-on updates

Hi, I'm sorry if i've missed it in your previous posts. Where did you get your mud flaps, floor mats, car cover etc installed? From the dealer? How much did they charge you?

Pardon me. I don't know to use the Quote option properly yet.

I happened to see the same car seat as yours few days ago in one of the Tata Showrooms in Bangalore. It was of good quality but i too felt that it had a shabby fit. Anyways, i liked the seat as it had perforated skin type for the back and also since it has Tiago emblem.

Thanks very much Prabhagar for the links. Just finished going through all the links and some videos in Youtube. Jack n Jill from R for Rabbit seems to be pretty good at this price range. I will visit the Firstcry shop in Hosur once the Tiago arrives and will give it a try.

Meanwhile please post the pics of your now in transit child seat once you will have fitted in your car.

Off the topic, i have opted for getting my Tiago without alloys as it will add another 15 days to the already 60 days waiting period.
As per Tiago accessories price list, the alloys will cost 27K which i feel is way too much for what it is worth. Now i had to find some nice looking alloys either online or in shop.

Thanks again for your prompt reply.

Cheers
