Hey guys,

Recently got a chance to drive XUV 500. Entire last week i was driving Cheetah, it was grey coloured W6 with 11.5 k on ODO and given below are my observation as compared to my Storme:

+ve notes

1. Clutch was very light, really liked it.
2. Steering was light as compared to my Storme.
3. Better dashboard (as everyone knows)

-Ve Notes
1. I felt less power in XUV as compared to Storme, even my brother felt that pickup in XUV is not good as compared to Storme (Now this may be the case in this XUV only, owners please don't start bashing me).

2. Every time while pressing clutch, my foot was touching the steering rod (See picture below)

the foot touching to the steering column can be more posture related.
I have never touched my shoes on the steering column. Done almost 15k on ODO.

Yeah, it may be the case but:

1. My foot always touched the rod whenever i pressed the clutch.
2. It never happens in my Storme.

Most of the XUV 5oo have turbo feedback booster issue, the feedback system fails to maintain required boost pressure. This could be the reason.

check with SE

Nice, anyways ask your friend to consult SE and draw the booster pressure curve on paper.

For me storme clutch felt good compared to XUV.

what about driving pleasure in city and off city ?

I really enjoyed my drive with XUV and there is no doubts that Cheetah is far ahead of Storme in terms of features, last week i traveled on delhi roads, National highway and completely broken roads in western UP. The arm rest in XUV is very helpful and now i am planning to add that in my Storme too.

Hi, can you post some sources from where you acknowledged that most XUVs have this problem?

I guess you read a post in another forum, but normally I would categorize that as a one off case.

I own a silver XUV500 W8 for the past 2 months and have covered just 700KMs as of yet.
I was getting a feeling of inconsistent turbo kickin, took to the Shirish service center in Marthahalli, but I was told this is normal and nothing unusual is noticed.
Somehow I still feel something is wrong, after hearing some others also mentioning about the similar issues.
I have noticed this more after taking a U-Turn or after riding a while in very slow speed and then trying to speed up. (not sue if the Turbo works that way only, as this is my first Diesel car)
I do not know how to convince the issue to the RM and the tech guys.
May be am over reacting, but the thought is not leaving me, also after reading this together with low FE (in the tune of 7 to 8 KMPL) makes me worried.
The low FE could be coz the daily trip is of just 6 to 7 KMs (in B2B traffic) one side as my office and home are closeby, haven't got a chance to go on a long drive/ trip as my wife is carrying.
Planning for one next Feb only, cant really wait till then to make sure my cheetah is trouble free.

I have heard of torque mapping by connecting a laptop to the ECU, is there something similar to map the turbo pressure as well?
Or the same torque mapping can be used for this purpose also..?

I think 7 kmpl is okay for a behemoth with 140 bhp which travels just 7 kms in B2B traffic. Since the engine does not get time to warm up, it will hardly give you optimal FE.

Do a simple test -

Take the car to an empty highway. Accelerate to about 70-80 kmph in 6th gear and set cruise control at that speed. Reset the FE in the infotainment. Wait for about 2 minutes and it should show you more than 16 kmpl. I have touched 18 kmpl. The problem with XUV's infotainment is that it does not show above 18 kmpl! There is a software upgrade available for that.

Does this test really show the health of the turbo?
I think this would for sure clear my doubts on the FE and will try this pretty soon. [drive]

Turbo issue still seems to be a blackbox, the worst thing is not being able to know if this is a problem or not... [confused]

It wont show the health of your turbo. Get your car checked at the A.S.S. for that.

Does you car emit excessive black smoke? Or have you encountered a tremendous power loss? I personally feel your car's turbo is alright.

I would say - relax, dont look for problems in the car. I myself stopped doing that.
