Though this thread is about "which one to choose ?", taking a break to know "how many have choosen" these vehicles in the last month could be a useful pointer.

October-2013 :Sales figures

Safari/Storme: 1115 [ 850, in Sep-2013]
XUV 5OO : 3226 [2159, in Sep-2013]

The Festive season + Heavy Discounts = More Sales.

Storme+Safari look to have benefitted from this equation which has moved past the 1k mark after a long wait for many months. At the same time, XUV appears to have made a huge jump on the MoM basis, with a difference almost equal to what Storme+Safari could do in the whole month.

@superbad,

Well, you are right when you say that side facing seats are banned (or something like that) in Europe as per European safety regulations. Then you should also note that European safety regulations require the rear seats to be set at a minimum distance from the rear door (for SUV/MUV/MPV/7 seaters).
so what do you want to infer?

You sure do know what I infer.[;)]

If you want to hear it from me, then here you go. "Neither is the XUV, like the Storme, is a 7 seater."
If we talk about safety, none of the 7 seater vehicles are safe in the 3rd row then... this includes the Innova and even the Fortuner, Pajero sport, etc.

When we talk about comfort relatively, the third row of XUV is surely better than the Storme. Relatively is the key word here.

But what about if there is only 6 people travelling? The person sitting on 3rd row of storme can actually fold one of the seat and sit with legs straight and thus helping more leg space.
And on the other hand if the same travels in xuv he still have to have his legs cramped [;)]

Ok, good legroom. What about head room and shoulder room? Any person of above average height cannot sit in the third row of the Storme.

Also, what about the uncomfortable swaying while accelerating and braking, because you are sitting sideways?

Talking about the European safety regulations here. Why do you think Innova and the Fortuner are not sold in Europe.

I agree with your statements but Getting Swayed is far better than getting cramped!
One can actually tell the driver to be easy on a storme and enjoy the sligtest sways.
But in xuv even if the 3rd row guys knees gets swollen he cannot utter a word and will have to keep his mouth and legs numb[lol]

Maybe because of the safety regulations, who is denying that?

By the way, what about safety in frontal impact? XUV's front facing seats have seatbelts, Storme does not have it. Collision can happen from front and sides as well, not just from the rear right?

LOLZ, this debate is going nowhere.

See, I would personally hate to sit on a seat in which I have to crouch in a confined place. Sitting in the car's direction of motion will always be more comfortable too.

Now, you may "enjoy" the swaying in that side facing seat, but I am sure the majoruty of us dont fancy that. Also, if given a choice between sitting in a crouched position for long hours or sitting comfortably in the direction of motion but with minimum leg space, I would opt for the latter.

Well, till now I thought it is obvious that a front facing seat is more comfortable than a cramped side facing seat. Looks like not everyone agrees to that!

Interesting discussion friends about the last row. Each of you are right in your own way and there is nothing like majority OR minority here. Each persons feeling is his own and right for him at least, so we can't say to him that he is wrong.

All the problem comes when we think that " whatever we feel, experience, buy, own, judge" is only correct and rest is wrong. This kind of thinking will block us from looking at the other angle or other side of the story[:)] and finally becomes very much subjective which we think it is too general, common and objective too

@Raj,

Thats what I've been saying all along. Storme is not a 7 seater, and TATA doesnt claim it as one. The SAFARI as a brand has stayed away from this 7/8 seater market. There was no efforts made to project it as one. Safari was always projected as a lifestyle vehicle. A comfortable 5 seater.

A Safari customer will be least bothered about the last 2 seats.

In the previous page, we were discussing relative safety and comfort of the third row of Storme in comparison to the XUV... If someone is concerned about 7 seats, then XUV it is!

A Safari customer will be least bothered about the last 2 seats.
You are generalizing here.

Mahindra XUV500 W4 launched at Rs 10.83 lakh
