Yes, right you are .In pune especially area near the muncipal limits , whenever a traffic jam occurs , there is wide but bad side strips along the side of bituminous road , I often see Indica taxis prefer to go ahead on the bad road so as to bypass the bottle neck of the traffic jam but SUV s prefer to que up on main bituminous road.
+1. I have even seen a SX4 take a bit off-road & avoid traffic queues when the road widening work at Nagar road was going on from Vimannagar towards Nagar road & I saw not 1 but atleast 4-5 UVs lined in the queue where they could have simply took the same path of SX4.
Such idiotic acts might save you nothing more than a few meters worth of distance, Rickshaws are exempted from this limit though [lol].

Just because I have a capable SUV, that doesn't mean I have no rules to apply or can overtake from any side or drive off the tarmac, on pavements or over the people at will.

Coming to the topic, which one do I buy, XUV or Storme?
None of them. As both of them do not worth the premium they ask for, today,IMO?

.
this is the first time i have seen an SUV owner receiving flak for maintaining road sense.

Regarding fuel guzzler i am still not sure. In city an xuv is known to give lowest average of 9kmpl whereas a normal hatch would have its worst fe of 11kmpl. So nothing to choose between them.
Also if niggles were the reason for the downward spiral then we would have seen the numbers for duster dropping drastically.
Even the duster has had complaints of brakes being spongy and have had its share of brake pads replacement along with not so great service.

Recent trend if any suggests that people are looking for compact vehicles . So an ertiga gets preference over an innova or a duster to the xuv or storme where the number of seats is not the sole criteria for buying an suv.

And for the pricing, the current pricing for the xuv ceases to make it a mouth watering prospect and hence the drop in sales. Which is a good sign which helps keeping the periodic price rise of the cars in check.

This is what cops expect from cars and suvs (to go ahead from left so that space created due to it can be used to straighten the que of irregularly standing buses and trucks)when they are not able resolve the jam.
Now , let's not bash the cops for this management. The basic cause of jam and long que is that traffic can not move ahead from right side IMO.

This applies only to traffic in 15 to 20 crowded cities .Elsewhere 'best FE of the hatch vs best FE of SUV ' comparison can tell you truth.

BTW, I was not knowing that SUV owners buy and drive ' em for the purpose of FE..If we manage to convince the same thing to the concerned ministry , I am sure special SUV tax would be revoked soon.

Price rise due to budget rules and not for the purpose of profit is good sign,! for whom ? Auto maker ? VFM suvs aspirants a.k.a taxpayers?

Isn't it(depriving an automaker of the reasonable profit) against the fundamentals of economics?

If automakers get deprived of periodic hikes in profit , from where the funds will come for R & D? AFA XUV & STORME are concerned both require further R & D , isn't it?
And M & M must have spent funds for monoque R & D IMO.PO

Whats idiotic in that ? He didn't put car in footpath or something, infact it wasn't even built then. It was just like kaccha road with some debris on it. Cops in city sometimes even allow cars to take BRT route if there is traffic jam, so how does it imply breaking rules ?? And staying in queue in traffic despite having another option promoted by cops themselves is not disobeying rules but being idiotic. And yes, no one is driving in wrong side either. I too would have done same thing as that SX4 guy did but as I was in first lane next to divider, couldn't take left due to second queue of cars.

Just because I have a capable SUV, that doesn't mean I have no rules to apply or can overtake from any side or drive off the tarmac, on pavements or over the people at will.
The above thing clarifies this point.

I have lost interest in both.

:offtopic:
Where does Cops jump in suddenly?[:D]

The posts I replied to earlier, just mention the likes of Indicas and an SX4 moving off the tarmac to avoid traffic queues. My reply was in line with that, which also is based on some common sights on our roads where vehicles squeeze in and out dangerously from nowhere as if they own those roads. I am no way going to support such acts.

When such a detour is done as per the directions of Cops or in some emergency, an SUV [XUV or Storme] with a better GC, is any day better suited. In such a scenario your observation of SUVs reluctant to go off the tarmac is [surprise]

^^ You are not getting my point. Fact is not about cops or driver breaking rules. Point we are trying to make is that even cars do many jobs in very fine way, while UVs despite capable aren't used to their fullest utility. This just shows that majority of UVs are bought only for show & not for actual use.

A lot of people (including myself) buy SUVs because we love SUVs, the same way you love sedans. It may not be the best handler, it may not have the best ride quality, it may not be city-friendly, it maybe be bulky... but we still love it.

Moreover, we may never take it off roading. So what? Is there a rule book which states SUVs HAVE TO BE taken off road and sedans are for city roads and highways?

There are a lot of virtues in SUVs which we (me and you) have discussed in length and breadth before and we have agreed to disagree upon, so I wont repeat all that over here. But yes, the fact remains that - many like me buy SUVs because we LOVE SUVs, and not for "show" as you believe. I would still like to say that to love SUVs, you dont need to love off roading.

And as long as we SUV owners are happily paying the extra taxes levied upon us by the Govt. and as long as we are living with the comparatively lesser FE, I dont think other road users should have a problem with us.

Now,govt . has made an indirect rule that if majority of suv are buying it for love then the subsidy on diesel (comes from all taxpayers ) used by them would be feeling recovered on day one of the subsidy ownership .Those who are happy can continue buying it it else You they asked can go for less taxed sedans . afa non fuel guzzeler sedans are concerned govt has made not levied extra tax on them looking at the ownership sales figures vis a vis vis suvs .

@Raja : Nice shot but this can not confirm that Safari are now prefered or XUV is now hated

May be people just left XUV and could have gone for Duster or Ertiga.

But XUV in Chennai NH45 still on test 3 vehicles 1 Purple 2Whites are in continous test they are trying to eradicate all issues and soon we'll get XUV niggle free with high quality for its price.

People in Mahindra city say a longer wheel base XUV can also be expected

And the reason for slight increase in STORME sales is Pre-Owned car dealers are expecting higher re-sale value in Storme and this postive move also will drive customers.

Sorry for OT

When My family got Innova in 2005 we got 50K discount and E model was 6.99L but the same E model now is 10.0L and still going good only difference between 2005 and now is cosmetic and Turbo cooler with minor changes in differential

The same way as Innova had in 2005 STORME is having so we may not know there could be a sudden boom or it may go as silent as ARIA went.

One thing for sure is XUV and Storme comparing both, STORME visits Service station lesser time but both are sentimental towards service station

Iam not taking any shot or advocating or suggesting anything here .

What you try to infer from my post is your responsibility not mine .

I have just posted figures since some members love them ( nothing wrong in that ) .
