Re: Tata Safari Storme Road Test Review

Mr tornado and mr dharmesh

I dont know my previous post dint come so posting again

I owned a scorpio and i sold it after i booked the storme . I found the storme more refined and more comfort providing then scorpio. And looks more stylish ,my family instantly fell in love and my kids got crazy for storme .Some members and scorpio owners are claming scorpio to be more comfort providing must have not sat in storme for sure any blind man can tell storme has more space in storme.iam 6 feet and 110 kgs i have no problems in storme.
I owned a scorpio for 3 years and other then early clutch failure i dint have major problems only rattling and squeaks . But it was time to upgrade . 2 of my cousins have xuv so dint wanted to a 3rd xuv beside that my kids and mrs loved the look of storme . Silver vx model.
And performance wise also i think storme more better. Overall it is a better car i feel .
Once i get delivery i will post pics. I will thanx every 1 here who has provided valuable information (specially to raja for pics and info )

Re: Tata Safari Storme Road Test Review

Most reviews say that under thigh support in the second row of Storme is outstanding.

Yes few reviews do mention about little less under thigh support when compared with XUV in the first row,but from where the obsolete Scorpio is coming into the picture I don't know.
The question raised from the Superbad's post below.

Class leading space but lesser under thigh support.
Less space for the taller driver.
Does not it means flawed ergonomics?
Even a 6 ft guy can sit comfortably in a scorpio in the second and the first row.
What extra benefits does that extra inches of space provides?
Turbo lag is present and for this reason i had added the duster in convention since it too has turbo lag.

Please Mr. Bhargav, could you please start your ownership review thread that would be much more helpful to others, as your review in this thread will be lost after few pages.

Re: Tata Safari Storme Road Test Review

Rear side plastics??? I haven't got you buddy.
Read under seat plastics covers, third row plastics and 4 inlets provided in jump seat area, they were already rattling, an under seat plastic even fell off during the test. They flex a lot.

Front row of XUV better, exactly same as what I always felt. Storme has less contouring. XUVs seats feel hard, especially when new. What about the quality of A/C vents(especially rear ones) of Storme??
A/C vent quality - both front and rear centre nothing to talk about really, it isnt great, especially the black direction setting knob. The roof ones are good though. Overall does the job well though

What about finishing?
XUV seating is much better finished. Its only marginally behind Storme as far as second row goes in terms of thigh support.

Selling a car to get a truck!!
Yes [evil]

feedback in Storme seems better

more or less same.

c) Better confidence aspiring at high speeds
They are set up differently XUV has a slight play initially and then bite picks up , the storme is more linear - depends on an individual choice. More or less even stevens!

d) Better stopping distance
very difficult to tell without data as we havent done a stopping test and measured, but it would be very close in my view.

Do note I am comparing the new XUV brakes to the Storme brakes, the old ones are no comparison really. Overall Ill give it to Storme as they got it right in the first attempt as opposed to XUV and brake feedback is good as well.

a) Which has got better shift feel
Storme has a shorter throws than XUV, it felt short and slick. More car like. But off course it has one gear less

b) better defined gates -
The 6 speed one will have a clear advantage here,in nearly every gear the xuv will feel more torquey and hence more driveability.

c) Which is more smooth -
Pretty closely matched with the lower gear sometime a tad hard to engage(that's true for most vehicles), but Storme has shorter throws.

d)more vibe free -
err isnt that same as c above ?

e) Overall more fun to engage?? -
As far as driving fun goes, has to be XUV, 6 speed is a hoot especially the 3rd gear with its super wide range, whereas the storme is set up for cruising and FE.

Again comparing a 6 speed to a 5 speed isnt exactly fair. XUV gear ratios are suitable both for sprinting and cruising, Storme I would say largely for cruising.

In the Storme you have to be ideally in the speed range vis a vis gear but the engine never gives up on you - even an idiot will find it hard to stall the storme, the XUV picks up speed much faster but if not careful you can stall it in gear.

I forgot mentioning what i liked most in Storme - its the ignition vocals - Man in most SUV its electrical/mechanical with the starter motor doing its job.
In the Storme it feels electronic - like a DJ starting the vehicle for you - i loved the ignition note. :stupid:

Not cramped at all, but a dead pedal and a cruise control is a miss for something which could be a cross country cruiser.

@Raja, I have sat in Storme but not in Scorpio, so I need to confirm the things before making any vague assumptions. And now I am sure about it. [;)]

A very warm welcome to the forum Bhargav and congratulation on the new acquisition, hope to see a detailed ownership review from you.

Guys, one humble request, lets not take this thread offtrack with personal comments, lets keep it on the topic, comparisons are inevitable for vehicles but lets discuss about vehicle rather as opposed why someone thinks something. Opinions will always differ, each one to his own.

+100

Ironrock.

My intention is only to get the facts about given vehicles in question.

1- Does storme feels ergonomically flawed vehicle compared to Scorpio ?

2- if some close relative ask you which car he must go for Scorpio sle or storme lx which would you suggest ? And why ?

I assure you this is just to know which car is more refined car and not stir controversy, since guys who like storme if they answer they will be called fanboys and guys who like Scorpio answer will be called storme bashers.

You are the perfect person to answer and iam sure you will be unbiased in your opinion being a non judgemental guy you are as far as I know you .

+100, I had been saying this from the ages[cry], so for the same reasons, I have posted the comparison between storm and XUV in the other thread "TATA storm Vs others "

Re: Tata Safari Storme Road Test Review

So IR,

After reading your comments about XUV,STorme and Scorpio,we can loosely say that:

1.Storme has got best in class brakes.

2. Best in class space(for the 5)

3. Best in class turning radius.

4. Best in class ride quality.

5. Best in class off-road prowess.

6. Best in class gear shift(more car like/slick as per you).

Would you agree with the above assumptions?

What class are you talking?

Here we got only two cars in the segment or price band viz. Scorpio and Storme, incidentally Scorpio is an ancient design.

Re: Tata Safari Storme Road Test Review

@ Raja
I never meant Storme is ergonomically flawed, i only meant there is scope for improvement with examples. Its not that the steering is behind your back [;)] There is nothing majorly wrong.

Regarding the choice between Scorpio SLE and Storme LX, largely depends on the requirements of the individual looking to buy. The Storme LX does make a good VFM proposition and comes out as a more modern proposition.

I love your questions Xover, you should be in the Ministry of External affairs as a diplomat, all of our foreign problems will be resolved ! [;)]

At best Storme LX compares with Scorpio(base CRDe) and largely comes out a winner depending on ones priorities (no surprise as the Scorpio is the ageing war horse here ), the XUV stands a full segment above Storme if you put the full package in perspective.

No I never meant that you mean or said storme is ergonomicaly flawed , if you read the thread some have posted it is without even seeing it so I asked you and your opinion .because if we answer we will be called storme fanboys and if Scorpio lovers post that it will be storme bashers posting to bash the car , hence you the savior [;)]

Storme lx compares with Scorpio base crDe or Scorpio sle mhwak ? The Scorpio mhwak sle is 30 k lesser and dosent come with 4 disc brakes and music system and don't know maybe xover knows some kind of abs which as per him best in class .
