Re: Tata Safari Storme Road Test Review

yes iam from day 1 not able to understand their strategy and tornado78 post throws a light on it a bit . We need some expert from sales and marketing to explain us why and when such launch stlye is adopted, any member can help us here ?
As I know, normally this kind of strategy is followed,

-when they want to build the confidence in buyers first and then the quantities
-If company feel that the different parts of the country have different buying mood and also it depends on liking of particular product/usage of particular product is more in some areas where launch will happen first
-When company likes to see the response in on area so that they should be ready with the production to delivery the product to customers quickly, this is mainly to control the huge waiting times after booking
-If company had some bad experience with their earlier product for some reasons

Re: Tata Safari Storme Road Test Review

IR Sir,few questions for you(if you don't mind

1.If we compare the interiors of XUV with Storme then which has got better material quality(plastics, carpet, upholstery, leather, dash, door, rubber etc.)?

2. Can we expect that our IR will soon be riding(owning) the Storm'e'?[:)]
I dont mind at all [:)] though the comparison isnt exactly fair, my answers might vary though from point to point , both the vehicles comes with its set of pit falls

Point 1 Material Quality :-

1) Plastics - Apart from dash Storm plastics are very very average quality, under seat and rear side plastics could have been better. They flex a lot.
In the XUV plastic quality is OK but things like stalks, wood panel, centre console storage door could be better, plastic colour and contours chosen are unconventional whereas in Storme its more appeasing and conventional(read as beige beige and more beige).

2) Carpet - XUV carpet is better laid out , Storme a few rough edges but still overall ok.

3) Upholstery - Storme roof is fabric while XUV has some kind of special plastic/frp kind of material, XUV is easier to clean compared to storme. Storme has taken a safer beige route here so more eye appeasing. Regarding seats Storme second row is marginally ahead of XUV as far as thigh support is concerned (i nearly measured it !), but the XUV seats recline. First row XUV is better and seats are better contoured and feel rich. XUV is better finished overall.

4) Leather - XUV quality is again better and also stitches are closer and uniform. Storme leather quality is good to average.

5) Dash - Nothing to compare really, While XUV has some lose ends in terms of quality it packs in everything really. XUV has a lot more in the dash than the Storme, so not sure what to compare against what here

6) Door - Both have heavy doors, though XUV takes more effort than Storme. So i would say Storme is better.

7) Rubber - Both arent great  , average quality really.

Point 2:- I intend to sell the civic shortly, surely Storme will be in the list if Tata introduces a LX 4x4 or a ZX 4x4 (depends on how they price).

Re: Tata Safari Storme Road Test Review

Class leading space but lesser under thigh support.
Less space for the taller driver.
Does not it means flawed ergonomics?
Even a 6 ft guy can sit comfortably in a scorpio in the second and the first row.
What extra benefits does that extra inches of space provides?
Turbo lag is present and for this reason i had added the duster in convention since it too has turbo lag.
superbad this is a special request to you read this post properly.

did you sit in the storme ? And was it uncomfertable for you ? Or have you have checked the space ? .or have you driven the storme to expreince the lag ? We have a humble request if you drive it and see it your post will be authentic. It is not imp to like the storme ,but when you talk about extra inches space and all how are you coming to this conclusion by looking at pics only ? Wouldn't it be better to check such things in person?

I again repeat here. Scorpio is not a bad car ,its just storme is better since it is todays product and in 2015 mahindra can out class storme and so on so forth that is the game anyway right ?

please don't make this a personal war my friend iam not against your car which your dad has bought with his hard earned money please don't take it that way dear.

This is last post in explaining you that please don't make it a personal war .it simply doesn't add any value to the forum

Re: Tata Safari Storme Road Test Review

There has been a lot going on in this thread... Storme bashers ranting about how the Storme lacks features and why it is not worth 15 Lacs and Storme/Tata lovers defending the product and debating on why it is better than the competitors.

I am from the former group and to be honest, I am not really impressed with the Storme. But I dont wanna bash the Storme. It isnt really that bad.

What I feel about the Storme is that though it looks good, it still has those classic Safari looks which was designed in the 1990s. It may work for some Safari fans, but not for me. Though it has abundance of space, it still has those old school jump seats in the third row. Again, this may be seen as a convenience by some or it wont simply matter to someone else who sees Safari as a 5 seater. But for me, for a huge SUV like the Safari, the third row has to be reasonably comfortable. Handling is good for a top heavy SUV with some body roll, but that's expected from an SUV with robust LOF chassis, so nothing to complain there. Finally... the features. Some see features as gadgets to show off to your friends or things to brag about or simply bling material. It is evident that these guys dont love or dont want gadgets in their car. But there are others like me who simply love cars with features and gadgets loaded to the brim. Stereotyping these features as bling material is not fair. Some of them are really useful and we love using them. Storme scores really bad in this segment for me. Even cheaper TATA cars like Manza has electronic climate control...

Anyways, there are some who need a no-nonsense car with the ability to munch highways in comfort, the Storme is for them. For the rest, there are better options. But to be honest, before calling the Storme a no-nonsense car, I would wait for 4-5 months for initial ownership reports. Niggles and issues have been part of Safaris for ages, I can only hope the Storme is a generation ahead of the older Safari.

Re: Tata Safari Storme Road Test Review

@ Tsi V , very true ,and, poor sales figure doesn't always mean a bad car.
.If well informed decisions are taken with eyes wide open , there should not be a problem and this forum is serving the same cause IMO.
buddy iam not denying the fact iam just saying cars doing less numbers doesn't mean car is bad example - rapid, micra, pulse.
The fact you have mentioned is neither 100% correct nor can be 100% denied. Moreover, don't you think it's too early to say such a strong thing (THE CAR WHICH SCORES BETTER 'OVERALL' ALWAYS DO GOOD NUMBERS.) for Duster which has yet to prove itself in every possible way, leave apart looks as they are subjective.
As simple as that, whether Duster or Rapid or Micra or Pulse whatever the car is..oops, my favorite - Yeti too.
If the car is doing good numbers then its ticking most of the boxes and if it isn't doing good numbers that means something is still missing.
This something can be anything from brand to performance and reliability, comfort, space, ride and handling..ANYTHING IT CAN BE.
I have seen cars carrying famous badges not selling but ones carrying unknown badges selling like hot cakes. Why? Because they ticked most of the boxes and met most of the consumer demands.
ANY PRODUCT WHICH HAS A FINE BALANCE OF EVERYTHING SCORES BETTER 'OVERALL' AND SUCH PRODUCTS ALWAYS SELL.

Check it yourself: Make a matrix with rows as your needs(in fact everything) and columns as car's name, now start giving score to every car on a scale of 10 that also being honest to yourself and at the end sum up the score of every car and then see which car scores highest overall.

Rear side plastics??? I haven't got you buddy.

2) Carpet - XUV carpet is better laid out , Storme a few rough edges but still overall ok.
Haha, both come equipped with cheap looking carpets!!

Front row of XUV better, exactly same as what I always felt. Storme has less contouring. XUVs seats feel hard, especially when new. What about the quality of A/C vents(especially rear ones) of Storme??

4) Leather - XUV quality is again better and also stitches are closer and uniform. Storme leather quality is good to average.
What about finishing?

5) Dash - Nothing to compare really, While XUV has some lose ends in terms of quality it packs in everything really. XUV has a lot more in the dash than the Storme, so not sure what to compare against what here
Storme's dash gives the feeling of a good workhorse BTW and low dash is a boon too. But still both are uncomparable.

6) Door - Both have heavy doors, though XUV takes more effort than Storme. So i would say Storme is better.
No doubt, Storme is better in feeling, finishing and sound.

7) Rubber - Both arent great , average quality really.
+100..

Point 2:- I intend to sell the civic shortly, surely Storme will be in the list if Tata introduces a LX 4x4 or a ZX 4x4 (depends on how they price).
Selling a car to get a truck!![anger]

There has.........................................................................ths for initial ownership reports. Niggles and issues have been part of Safaris for ages, I can only hope the Storme is a generation ahead of the older Safari.
+100..

@vipul
Why are we getting so difficult, any car can sell less inspite of being a good car it is as simple as that ,we making a matrix and all is not a point here buddy . Car selection for me is not dependent on how many unit it sales this is a basic thought here . I tornado ( pune ) share that thought process just this . people who select a car looking at its sales figures are right in their own way they have their own reasons for that and its cool.

Re: Tata Safari Storme Road Test Review

Thanks IR for your prompt reply. Now my final set of questions about Storme v/s XUV(atleast I hope so[glasses]):

1.Much has been said about brakes of XUV,so since both Storme and XUV come equipped with all around disc brakes which has got :

a) Better feel,

b) Better bite,

c) Better confidence aspiring at high speeds,

d) Better stopping distance??

2. The gearbox of XUV is manufactured by world renowned 'Ricardo',whilst Tata still uses the modified version of their 25 years old G76 gearbox(developed for Tata Mobile(now 207) at 1987),so my question is:

a) Which has got better shift feel,

b) better defined gates,

c) Which is more smooth,

d)more vibe free,

e) Overall more fun to engage??

Waiting for your answer impatiently since you own the XUV and have driven Storme extensively.[:)]

I think Bhargav has already mentioned in his first post that it's 4x2 VX.

ROFL...[lol]

Most reviews say that under thigh support in the second row of Storme is outstanding.

Yes few reviews do mention about little less under thigh support when compared with XUV in the first row,but from where the obsolete Scorpio is coming into the picture I don't know.[roll]
