Re: Tata Safari Storme Vs Rest of the Competition
It was VX , we were sitting behind the display VX storme .I found that the rear sparewheel was missing along with rear door handle. SE told me that the sparewheel is placed under the boot (not inside)and it can be removed and replaced with a string and fastener from inside the boot. The rear door handle is hidden near the regn. plate .
The resultent baldlook of the rear is made upmarket with the help of matte black look ing stripe and minimal use of chrome.
The rear seat headroom and dimensions are enough for a servent measuring less than 155 cm . My son immidietly revolted against it when offered to seat there for TD for few minutes.
There is also a provision for a' mechanical fuel lid opening lever' inside the boot, in case of electronic driver controlled mechanism fails.
I entered the driver seat with ease without using the side step. The sidestep is grey black as compared to aluminum colored trend. It gives the storme a slim look as compared to other suvs.
The interiors look upmarket due to use of coffee colored leather and beige colored plastic every where including the gear knob and dashboard. The feel and touch is is skin friendly. Tatas struggle for good quality plastc is over now.
There is lot of room available every where in front and mid cabin eg . footstretch, legstretch, shoulder head etc.
The steering wheel design is borrowed from base model of outgoing manza , Atleast they should have borrowed it from aura manza which comes with audio/bluetooth controls. But leather wraps have saved some skin there.
Only let down is 'single din alpine HU look' despite of the space available for a touch screen visual 2din. So reverse cam, GPS should be on the after market accsesories list.
Four way adjustable driver seat is good enough for driver of any dimension.
We got down and looked at the front, the grill design and greyblack color along with minimal chrome gives it intercontinental look.
Opened the bonnet , surprised to see the engine is not 2.2 dicor but a Vicor.SE used vague terms such as refiened, tuned, blab blab la...
Overall impression : TDH awaiting a Macho for a long liv-in relationship.
Finally we headed toward the TD storme again a TDH but a white vx (color and paint work really top notch , lookwise and touchwise).
I asked the SE to take it to a rough hilly terrian.
He said , he has driven it@180 on highway. I said highways is a territory owned by civics, lauras, cruzes and SUV need not encroach upon it.
He denied the rough terrian TD. I told him to cancell the TD. He went back without any expression on face.
We headed toward the exit gate, where I found that my son's eyelids were wet.I went back and agreed for a TD on the route chosen by the SE.
SE occupied the driverseat with me on the middle seat, I was thinking to give call to XUV SE .My knowledge is ultralimited about the XUV except the exterior and interior looks.
So, if I compare
I felt that Storme is meant to impress the college girls,to visit the forests and Farms where no road exists or only diversion (WIP)exists.
While XUV ,, I felt is meant to impress brides in the towns, to visit the farmhouse where there are bad roads available.
The storme smoothly moved on , and entered on the main road outside.I asked the SE , when was the engine cranked , before I entered the car or after I entered? He said , he cranked it after everybody was in and the doors were closed. The cranking noise went unnoticed by me may be due to XUV thoughts.
