Tata GenX Nano launched at Rs 1.99 lakh

Tata Motors has just launched the much-awaited GenX Nano at Rs 1.99 – 2.89 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). The biggest changes to this year's version of Tata's city car are an openable hatch, a considerable facelift and the option of an automatic gearbox.

This 'GenX' Nano, as Tata calls it, debuts a lot of new features never before seen on the car. Apart from the option of an Automated Manual Transmission (AMT) gearbox, the boot can finally be accessed by an openable hatch. When the Nano was first rolled out in March 2009, the company did have to cut corners in order to achieve that famous starting price of Rs 1 lakh to make it the cheapest car in the world. But now, it has been repositioned as a city car, and therefore many comfort and convenience features have been added over the years.

The new GenX Nano will be made available in five trims — XE, XM, XT, XMA (AMT) and XTA (AMT). The AMT is a five-speed gearbox (unlike the manual, which remains a four-speed), which Tata calls 'Easy Shift’. Not only does it get a 'tiptronic' mode to shift gears manually, there's also a Sports mode for quicker responses, and a 'creep' function that moves the car forward slowly as soon as your foot is taken off the brake pedal.

The Nano GenX gets the same 624cc, two-cylinder, rear-mounted petrol engine, apart from some modifications to the ECU for slightly improved fuel efficiency. Storage capacity in the automatic car is 94 litres, while the manual car can take 110 litres. The car gets an audio system with four speakers, Bluetooth, aux-in and USB.

On the outside, the Nano GenX has smoked headlamps, a black band with a chrome strip to liven up the near-vertical bonnet, new front and rear bumpers, fog lamps and a new grille that gives the car a smiling face.

The financial year 2014-15 wasn’t great for the Tata Nano, as sales dipped 20 percent from the previous year to 16,901 units. However, with these few important and much required updates, the Nano is far better equipped at being an easy-to-use city car than it ever has been in the past.

Prices (ex-showroom, Delhi)

XE - Rs 1.99 lakh

XM - Rs 2.29 lakh

XT - Rs 2.49 lakh

XMA (AMT) - Rs 2.69 lakh

XTA (AMT) - Rs 2.89 lakh

Being an Indian, I am proud to say that I own a Nano, don't know why we Indians love the junk from USA and Europe, which are not suitable for Indian roads and pockets.
Salute to Mr. Ratan Tata for fabulous car in such a price [clap] .
Its being a year that we are using Nano LX, its a best suitable town and highway car for small family with small pockets and lifestyle car for people with big pockets.
Yesterday, I was in Tata's showroom to watch the much awaited Nano AMT version, I fell in love in first site and believe me, its much much batter then Celerio AMT or any other autogear car in India. Boot lid is much appreciated add-on and other rich features are excellent. The car looks good in Purple and Red color.

The image of details shown by you Mrigank shows heights of insanity of who ever has written it in first place.

Nano AMT is sluggish: In 2 Lac car should we expect Jaguar XF Type AMT performance!

Lacks Refinement as per conventional AT: With which conventional AT is Nano being compared here? Alto k10 may be or probably Benz. An ambiguous statement to say the least.

Brakes: Can the brake drums be larger than wheel size itself? Didn't the writer see the actual length of the vehicle prior to mentioning this? Should drum brakes of Nano at 2 Lacs work like Zest or Amaze?

Bumpy Ride: Man!! Seems height of insanity x 1000[frustration]. Is he/she trying to compare the ride of a 2 lac rupee car with a 4 or 5 lac rupee car?

Cheap Car: Excuse Me!!! Which era is the person referring to? Its 2015, Nano is no longer cheap. Its crossing 2.5 Lac rupee mark.

Tiny Boot: Should it be as big as S-600 Guard? Or Toyota Corolla et al? What parameters have been referred to before making a statement like this?

Niggles: Tell me one brand that is error free!

Sub-Par after sales in comparison to Maruti: Maruti was one of the 1st brands of India. They know and understand the market better than any other. TATA's after sales if is sub-par then compare it to likes of GM, VW or Skoda. No one can compare the standards of Maruti to other brands because Maruti has many other advantages in India which other brands have not got.

In all, I feel, from where ever these points have been mentioned, they should not be adhered to because Nano's this model is not like as its projected by those half-hearted remarks.

Sometimes why TATA design team feel like lazy boys i dont know they had good chance to show TATA NANO usable bits in car but they neglected blindly we all know and observed and said in each and every nano test drive reviews show that TATA NANO lacks on storage department not even single water holder is not presented buts must and should feature in todays modern cars if they want means they can easily redesign door pads of nano to accomodate 1liter bottles in their pockets they already did this kind of redesing process in TATA Indica Ev2 but why not in TATA NANO dude common TATA common [;)]

Observe below images how accomodate bottle holders on door pockets [:D]

Nano product is more than full priced for the value it generates. Market sales is showing tata the right direction but tata is adamant on not making external changes to the product . Main users of this product are patriotic ones and first timers with a tight budget

Drink less save water. [lol]. Jokes apart, its TATA problem they add general modification to the car when people forget about their cars. Same happens with the power window switch position(till 2012 models), EPAS and now the bottle holder. I was wondering that they are claiming a feedback from 1000 clients and no one suggested bottle holders in door pocket? Even the centre console bottle holder is of no use in newer models.
