Tata GenX Nano with AMT to launch on May 19

Tata Motors will introduce the GenX Nano with manual and automated manual transmission on May 19, 2015. Apart from featuring the AMT system, the GenX Nano is the first Nano to come with a functional bootlid.

On the MT, the GenX Nano has a 110 liter boot, while the AMT variant sees a 94 liter boot thanks to a higher engine cover. Speaking of the engine, the twin-cylinder 624 cc motor continues doing duty on the Nano, but has a better thermal management system. A new cooling fan at the rear and a cooling system up front ensure in better engine cooling on the small car.
The GenX Nano will also be the safest version of the Nano thanks to side impact beams and a better front crumple zone. However, the car will not offer front disc brakes, as it will carry on with its predecessor’s drum brakes.
The GenX Nano MT is claimed at 23.6 km/l while the AMT has an ARAI-rated figure of 21.9 km/l. Further, the 15-liter fuel tank has been upgraded to a 24 liter tank on the GenX Nano.

Cosmetic changes present on the outside include smoked headlight clusters, a piano-black hood ornament, new front and rear bumpers with an Infinity motif theme and new body colors. Inside, a new 3-spoke steering wheel, new fabrics for the seats and doors and a dual-tripmeter with a gear position indicator (on the AMT variant) are among the list of changes.

Excerpts from Tata Motors puts diesel Nano plan on back burner - The Times of India

Tata Motors will not be driving in a diesel engine powered Nano in the near future owing to issues related to "refinement and economics".

The company, which is expected to launch the GenX Nano soon, had developed a 2-cylinder 800 cc diesel engine that was also aimed at powering the small car but it has decided against using it for the time being.

"The reason is that as we stand now, refinement is a challenge and what refinement can be given on this kind of a car (Nano) won't be acceptable to the Indian customer," Tata Motors senior vice president (Programme, Planning & Project Management, Passenger Vehicles) Girish Wagh told PTI.

"We need to do significant amount of work on improving the refinement," he added.

Moreover, Wagh said from an economics point of view of both customers and the manufacturer at the current market price of the fuel, odds are heavily against the diesel Nano.

"Economics is also a challenge ... When diesel price comes to its natural level, all the price advantage will go. Although it has higher fuel efficiency, meeting higher emission norms in diesel is more costly ... Therefore, below a particular price level, diesel making economic sense both for the customer and the OEM is very difficult," Wagh said.

Elaborating on the technical hurdles, he said, "One of the challenges on diesel engine is refinement. We did develop a 2-cylinder 800 cc diesel engine, which was also used in our commercial vehicle family.

"We assessed the NVH (noise, vibration and harshness) level of this engine and how it will perform on the car. We thought that the kind of refinement levels that the (car) customers are now expecting, they won't accept the refinement which the 2-cylinder diesel can produce."

When asked if the company has given up on a diesel Nano, Wagh said: "We continue to work on it. We don't rule out any possibility but currently the refinement and economics for both the customer and the OEM is a challenge."

In order to revive the fortunes of what Ratan Tata called 'People's Car', Tata Motors is all set to unveil its new avatar, GenX Nano, positioning it as an aspirational vehicle.

The company is doing so by offering all the functional needs like power steering, openable boot, automatic transmission for city driving and also providing a bigger fuel tank of 24 litres as compared to just 15 litres in the previous version.

Tata Nano GenX vs Maruti Alto K10 – AMT Shootout

Shootout: Tata Nano GenX vs Maruti Alto K10

Price OTR Mumbai:Rs. 3,49,790/- (Tata Nano GenX AMT, est.), Rs. 4,87,395/- (Maruti Alto K10 AGS)

Automatic cars are seeing an increase in popularity in India and no longer are automatics only limited to higher segments. In fact, now one can buy even an entry level car with an automatic gearbox, yes, that’s right, the Tata Nano has got an automatic, making it the world’s cheapest automatic car, the said honour rested with the Maruti Alto K10 earlier. These two cars are the cheapest automatics one can buy today and also have quite the price difference between them but since they have no real direct competition to each other, we pitch them against each other in the battle of the most affordable automatic cars!
Motor Quest: The Maruti Alto is India’s top selling car while the Tata Nano doesn’t even feature in the top 20 list of top sellers. The Alto was launched way back in 2000 while the K10 version was launched in 2010, receiving a thorough update last year, while also getting the AMT gearbox. The Tata Nano was launched in 2009 and has got multiple revisions in the past three years, the latest is called GenX.

New Nano GenX Reaches Dealerships Ahead of May 19 Launch

The new Nano GenX is finally all set for its launch and this time it will carry with itself a big USP – the clutchless AMT (Automated Manual Transmission) which the company calls Easy Shift. The facelifted Nano is scheduled to officially go on sale on May 19th which is when its prices will also be known. The new car has however started reaching dealerships and our Managing Editor recently spotted a unit at a showroom while out for a leisure outing.

The display unit spotted is a manual variant with the top end Twist. Labelled as the Nano Twist XT, the car has an openable rear tailgate and the new smiley front and rear bumpers with fog lamps at either ends!

Although the faux wood inserts on the dashboard are not seen in this model but the top end AMT variant is expected to have them as the one seen at the Auto Expo last year. The steering wheel is a fresher Zest/Bolt inspired unit and the overall quality seems much better and improved!

The openable tailgate allows the Nano GenX to have a utility boot space of 110 litres with the manual gearbox and 94 litre with the AMT. Nano GenX with AMT will come with a rated fuel efficiency of 21.9 kmpl. The Tata Nano GenX also gets a bigger 24 litre fuel tank up from the current 15 liters.

Re: Tata Nano GenX AMT on Verge of Launch

Current Tata Nano Twist XE price slashed by Rs 52,000, new price Rs 1.66 lakhs

Speaking to RushLane, a dealer in Pune confirmed that the reason for this huge cut in price of current Nano Twist is the fast approaching launch of new Nano. Tata Motors launched the current Nano Twist XE variant earlier this year in February at a price of Rs 2.18 lakhs.

New Nano, which is called as the GenX Nano, will be offered in a choice of manual and AMT transmission options. Making matters worse for current Nano is the start of booking and arrival of new Nano in dealerships. Considering that Tata Motors is promoting the new Nano as the safest and most advanced ever, people are obviously waiting for the new Nano, and are not willing to buy current Nano.

To be officially launched on May 19, 2015, Tata GenX Nano with AMT will receive a number of upgrades, the most outstanding of which will be its functional bootlid revealing a 94 litre luggage hold for AMT and 110 litre for manual variant. New front and rear bumpers are evident while interiors receive a new steering wheel similar to the more premium Tata cars, Zest and Bolt.

Re: Tata Nano GenX AMT on Verge of Launch

I feel that TATA created some confusion in TATA NANO Variants TATA should revive some features in nano variants like fallowing below

TATA NANO XC(maybe non openable hatch door or openable door)

this nano will be entry level variant feature like AC, basic interiors non body color bumpers and door handles and ORVM(driver side only)

pre facelift steering wheel

TATA NANO Twist XE

features list:

-AC
-EPASS
-basic pre facelift steering wheel
-pre wiring for music system and speakers
-black bumpers and door handles and ORVM's both sides

TATA NANO Twist XM & XMA

-integrated music system with bluetooth

-body color bumbers, door handles and ORVM's

-Fog Lamps

-Full wheel caps

TATA NANO XT & XTA

possibly this variant will be more expensive high end variant

- low cost harman music system with steering mount audio controls

-Front and Rear power windows

-front and rear Fog lamps

The most biggest problem here is with the inventory. As of now TATA has lot of inventory of the current gen Nano left at its factory. Still that stock has to be dissolved. Secondly the customers have rejected to buy low cost models. I don't think it will feasible for Tata to maintain such huge inventory.

Rather I prefer to have just two models one at the lower end and one with the top end features. If demand picks up they can relaunch more models as per the demand.

Even Tata haves not put too much expectations on the GenX Nano. Coz they have told suppliers their target sale itself will not be more thanks 2500-3000 Cars per month. So so many variants will cause further problems.

Re: Tata Nano GenX AMT on Verge of Launch

I agree.... 2 versions are enough for Nano. I think my Nano XT is quite well loaded in terms of features. It has a good music system with 4 speakers and Bluetooth+USB+Aux connectivity. CD player is quite useless for me. Front Power windows are very useful and enough. I haven't felt the need to adjust the ORVMs often. So power-adjustment is not needed. Keyless entry is already provided. Charging point is also there. Would have appreciated a proper bottle-holder. And 3-point seatbelts for 2 passengers in the rear would have been really useful.

Alloy wheels are always available as an option.

I agree with both TATA had biggest problem with lots of inventory to clear those stock TATA should keep those old stock with XC variant tag and offer low price untill stock will clear i dont know its best idea or not just an opinion in some cases 2 variants are enough of nano but still some people want to buy lower variants because of their tight budget

Have they changed the ORVM mechanism in newer variants? If electrical adjustable mirrors not possible in that price range internally adjustable can be provided. Adjusting the mirror with stick is more easy as compare to manual adjustment of mirror inside the shell.
Till 2012 models 2 bottle holders are provided (500 ml each), later models in reality not bottle holders just rectangle pocket.
3 point seatbelts in rear- required
child lock- You are targeting small medium class families who mostly travel on 2 wheeler with kids and you are not providing child lock?
