Re: The Story of Tata's Epic Journey from Trucks to Aria

Great to hear a home grown engineering automobile company, has taken the right way of approach for engineering cars, kudos tata. By the way I would be more interested (and happy) to know, if some informations are made available to the public too my take would be
1. engine temperature ranges over the test period.
2. engine oil quality after the test.
I can assert the robust quality of zest, but do want to have an insight into the engine temperature range over the test period (engine temperature vs time vs speed would shut all foul questions out)

Re: The Story of Tata's Epic Journey from Trucks to Aria

bolt was the first to complete the 10000 KM mark then was the Zest. And all happened in 75 Hours of driving nonstop. It is at an amazing speed of 133 KMPH.

In a general when we do say HYD-BLR in 6 hours the average speed comes to around 90 KMPH. But infact during the driving times the speed is much more than that. incl bursts of 120+ KMPH.
Now coming to this run, avg speed is 133 KMPH. Which means that cars are driven at much higher speed. remember there was an efficieny run as well. where Bolt achieve an astonishing 30 kmpl for a complete 1300+KM run. I think the car must have been in cruise mode with speed max around 80 kmph.

Overall I would say a fantastic effort. Hope these numbers trickle down to every last buyer

tata bolt gave 1344 KM on one tank full that is tremendous 30kmpl. Petrol Bolt !!!! Any questions on Kitna deti hai? Tata should change the tag line to Kitna chahiye.
Final figures for the bolt, there is a typo error where it's qouted litres instead of km for the distance.

#GEAREDFORGREAT ENDURANCE DRIVE 48HR REPORT

The four Made of Great Tata cars have now run through the night for two consecutive days and early this morning they greeted us with yet another fantastic achievement crossing the 5,000 kilometres mark. By 9 am and at the end of the 48 hour period, all cars had set a new milestone going past the 6,000 kilometres mark. The 50th hour saw another achievement being unlocked with the cars racking up a total of 6698.2km. This is now officially the longest distance covered by any Indian car without stopping!

The Tiago Revotorq diesel has been the pacesetter completing the 48-hour milestone with 6415 kilometres in the odometer. The Bolt Revotron petrol clocked 6,364 kilometers followed by the Zest Revotron petrol and Tiago Revotron petrol at 6313 kilometres respectively.

Meanwhile, in the economy run, the Bolt Revotron petrol delivered an incredible 1,344.1 kilometers with 47 litres of fuel. That’s an average of 28.326 kmpl which is phenomenal! Driving the efficiency car is by no means an easy task and requires a lot of patience considering the average speed is only 55-60km/h. Also, the aircon is switched off, which means those driving during the day has to literally “sweat it out” thanks to the sweltering heat in Ahmednagar. The Bolt petrol was driven for almost 27 hours before it ran out of fuel and was towed back to the pits.
this by no means a paper figure or ARAI figure (which is in ideal condition, not achievable). 27 hours consistently they have recorded this fuel efficiency, in good driving conditions i would say, which really Awesome.

New benchmarks and records are being created even as we write this post. We can’t wait to find out how many more records the cars will create on Day 3 of the Geared For Great Challenge!

I stand corrected here. The bolt which did the efficiency run does not seem to be part of the endurance run cars since, after running for 27 hours on sedate driving, it ran out of fuel which means its engine stopped. So the fuel efficiency car was a different one and the one setting endurance records is different.

I am sorry if this is a stupid question.
How can a single driver drive a car for 2days nonstop?

Re: The Story of Tata's Epic Journey from Trucks to Aria

Also as per latest tweets, cars have completed 96 hours of driving. Sheer determination from the 4 super drivers and of course very capable tata Cars. This is a great achievement driving 10000 km in just over 3 days what people generally log in 1-2 years of ownership and that too a blazing fast 130KMPH throughout. What a feat!!!

now a report in DNA

Re: The Story of Tata's Epic Journey from Trucks to Aria

now a report in DNA
Can you imagine a car running nonstop for over 72 Hours and 10000km? Until yesterday, it would have been deemed unthinkable but not anymore! Three Tata cars – Bolt, Zest and the soon-to-be-launched-Tiago have gone on to clock over 10,000km of nonstop motoring in just over 3 days at the ongoing Geared For Great Challenge. It’s a feat no Indian car has ever achieved – something that has left the entire auto industry and the world media in wonder. What’s happening here at the high-speed VRDE track in Ahmednagar, is way bigger than the previous ratified benchmark of 3082km in 24 hours set in 2003 by a team of drivers led by ZEEGNITION Editor-in-Chief Adil Jal Darukhanawala – the man who has shattered his own record on this occasion as well and that too several times over!
The 24x7 endurance event started at 9am on March 14th with the petrol variants of the Bolt and the Zest taking to the track along with the petrol and diesel versions of the Tiago. Running on the innermost slow lane of the VRDE are identical cars vying for the fuel efficiency records. The Bolt Revotron, driven at a specific speed band between 50-60kmpl, logged in an incredible 1,344 km with 47.440 litres of fuel, equating to a stunning 28.326kmpl of fuel economy! But the Zest Revotron did even better covering 1449.9km using 48.5 litres of petrol which amounts to 29.89kmpl!
A mega event of such scale surely requires drivers with the right skillset and temperament. To this end, close to 50 seasoned drivers have been roped in. These include, aside from Adil, who has been leading the charge with many back-to-back-stints, several eminent motorsport personalities such as Armaan Ebrahim, Rayomand Banajee, Sanjay Takale, Harish Samtani and veteran rallyist Hari Singh, who is also the track controller for the event.
An event of such immense significance is the perfect example of what Make In India stands for. It has been an all-Indian effort right from the concept, cars, venue and the people making this event possible. To begin with, the cars are built by an Indian OEM – Tata Motors. The event is conducted under the aegis of the Indian motorsport federation, the Federation of Motor Sports Clubs of India (FMSCI) via its member GodSpeed Racing. It is being held on the 4.226km-long high-speed test track of the NCAT (National Centre for Automotive Testing) and administered by the Vehicle Research and Development Establishment. The vehicles are fuelled by Indian Oil Corporation, the country’s largest petroleum major and they are running on tyres made by one of the foremost Indian tyre makers, JK Tyres. And finally, the entire event has been conceived by Adil Jal Darukhanawala, who heads ZEEGNITION which is the automotive arm of the Zee Media Corporation Ltd.
A new national record is being set with each passing hour and by the time you will be reading this, the Tata cars would have crossed yet another milestone, an even bigger one! This is an endurance drive of historic proportions and you can catch all the updates from this record-breaking journey on Tata Motors: GearedForGreatChallenge Organized By ZEEGNITION - Four Tata Cars are being Put to a Gruelling Endurance Test | India.com and the @zeegnition, @madeofgreat, @adiljal Twitter handles.

Tata Motors to undergo transformation exercise

Tata Motors’ newly appointed chief, Guenter Butschek, on Thursday said the company would undertake a transformation exercise, which would include a relook at brand positioning, revamping products and increasing its global footprint.

“Tata Motors will undergo a major transformation process in order to get future-ready. We would like to effectively review the entire setup of Tata Motors as far as structure is concerned, as far as the processes are concerned and when it comes to manufacturing, as far as the equipment and tools are concerned,” he told reporters during his first media interaction since hsi appointment.

Mr Butschek, the ex-chief operating officer of European aviation major Airbus, took over as the managing director and chief executive of Tata Motors last month.

Mr Butschek, hinted that transformation process would start with the re-launch of a refined brand positioning in a fortnight.

“Instead of having a scattered brand identity where people have different interpretations internally as well as in the market, we would like to have a very strong brand statement, which will not only serve as the backbone for internal transformation process, but also as a reference point for product launches and expanding the dealer network,” he said.

Mr Butschek added that there was room for improvement in the quality of manufacturing and the company was also looking at reducing the number of suppliers.

“We will certainly reduce the number of suppliers... I would rather focus on the development of my strategic supply partners instead of wasting an awful lot of effort on ones who would always remain substandard,” he said.

He said focussing on producing more models from a single platform and quicker turnarounds in launching new models to address the opportunities will also be a focus area.

On the products side, he said the company has the right mix, from the lowest end to the high-end on the commercial vehicles (CVs) front, which makes it possible for it to enter any market, but added that this requires investments on the distribution and sales front.

One of the markets which the company is planning to tap for CVs is Latin America, he said.

There will be more passenger car launches, starting with the hatchback Tiago soon, which will be followed up with the crossover Hexa showcased at the Auto Expo, he said, adding that there is at least one more car its engineers are working on at present.

“In the last couple of years, Tata Motors has taken a creative break in order to rethink its strategy in order to put the right product on the PV side in the pipeline and now, we will deliver on the expectations,” he said.

He called the launch of the Nano a “visionary decision”, which had created a unique market segment, but also conceded that the company had not achieved sales as per expectations.

Mr Butschek said the transport industry is at a crossroads at present, given the traffic problem in cities which warrants a rethink at the solutions.

Asked about the recent strike at its Gujarat plant, Mr Butschek said he would like to be more proactive when it comes to industrial relations rather than do some fire-fighting once a crisis erupts.

Re: The Story of Tata's Epic Journey from Trucks to Aria

Hoo...they are still running fellas. Don't know how they planned but they are executing it perfectly. At the 96th hour
zest covered 12,318 Km @ an average of 128.3 Kmph
bolt covered 11,697 Km @ an average of 121.8 Kmph
tiago petrol covered 11,976 Km @ an average of 124.8 Kmph
tiago diesel covered 11,731 @ an average of 122.2 Kmph
refuelling + beautification (cleaning of glasses) takes 2 minutes, running out of time, hell yeah, provision for regular servicing on the track itself, tyre changes at 3.5k-4k Kms and in 90 seconds (all 4 tyres).

All this test results would factor in a great amount of variables to the vehicle and engine design team at TATA. The revotron and revotorq can be expected to be more robust and efficient in its revision. seems like the R&D guys have a humongous amount of data to chew their days ahead. Guys prime up your workstations and fire up your test bed.

That is great fireworks from TATA Motors. They are geared to reach a mile stone at 1.15 PM.... that is 100km of Non-stop endurance.

Amazing feat!
This should lay to rest all the doubts about the reliability and longevity of Tata cars.

Just out of curiosity - Whats the normal service interval for Zest, Bolt, Tiago where engine oil needs to be changed? I believe it could be 15000.
Has any other auto manufacturer attempted such a feat?
