Re: Tata Motor’s Cars – The Ultimate Reliability Survey

As said earlier never owned or driven one, my experience with tata sumo and indicab was 5 yrs as passenger and driver's shared their driving and maintance experiance with me
Madhu the first post of this survey orientated thread says , only past / present owners of Tata motors are allowed to vote . Non owners like you and me can participate in the discussion but testimony and voting rights are reserved only to owners of Tata cars . I saw you voting so thought you have owned a Tata car in past .hope you understand why asked you this question.

Please - members who dont own a tata vehicle are allowed to ask questions, clear doubts and other queries but must not write a testimony since they are not eligible to write one since they don't own one.
The purpose of this thread is to create awareness, share information and get true factual experiences from tata car owners about owning one . Please refrain from making this thread a battle field by getting into brand wars .
So tata car owners common bring it on your Honest ,unbaised and true testimonial here will help other interested car buyers.

@Tornado : Re you a manza owner? If so check your boot. for Parcel Tray it is a standard Object/Part available in all Manza.

Manza having rattling noises in the rear is due to parcel tray and this job was done by the factory people and not the dealer. It was in the dealers place but none of them were involved.

People who complain there is noise/Rattling noise in rear in Manza this is done and updated to all dealerships and A.S.S to do if there is any noise.

If there is a problem and not been rectified means should I not vote? Should I not purchase from same brand? What do you mean

@Nanit: IT may be an adhesive but this will not stick parts together and its duty is to give cushion effect between the metals so that rattling an be stopped. But the result still is not obtained by them.

Welding done is OK but itshould have been painted properly and other BRands make it systematically and there will be no such appearance to the panels.

Regarding the Bumper I have mention about the Clips and bezel pls reffer to the pictures.

I agree but you dint deal with sales, service , part replacement and overal a.s.s good /bad experience right ?

thread was specially made to know the feed back of Tata motors from owners only ,since they have bought the car and, have gone through entire experience of dealing with Tata motors good, bad worse or whatever .

It is similar to " have you booked ecosport thread ? " I have driven the car more then 15 times and wish to own one , but since I have not booked one technically I dint vote . Because if I vote right statistics wont be established and will not serve the purpose of that thread started by respected member Indian.

Dont take me wrong , I myself have not voted on the thread even though I have been a thread starter . Dont think iam starting some kind of debate with you. Its just that if all vote the purpose of the thread wont be served .

Re: Tata Motor’s Cars – The Ultimate Reliability Survey

AFAIK, all new bumpers come unpainted. The painting is done by the dealer.
All manzas including aqua /aura comes with body colored bumpers as OE from factory.
Now , why maran has opted for repaint /replacement etc. is not clear.
Regarding speaker connection, that was gross. Maran should have asked the guys to fix it properly - unless the connectors of the speakers are broken, that is not the way to fix the wires. ( I know I would have...)
Again 2012 AURA model doesn't come with parcel tray speakers as OE.

If there is a problem and not been rectified means should I not vote? Should I not purchase from same brand? What do you mean
If a problem is not solved to your satisfaction , and the dissatisfaction is severe enough to label the automaker as ' the cheaters' , then normally members neighther buy a car from same manufacturer again and again,
again , nor they recommend it to other members.

When I said new, I meant replacement bumpers. Apparently Maran had replaced the bumper.

Re: Tata Motor’s Cars – The Ultimate Reliability Survey

Viewer's Discretion Advised, some gory pictures :-

I was intending to post this as an ownership thread, but I don't think ill be able to do justice to it regularly as this is not my regular ride. So this is my little tribute to a 15 year old Tata warrior - this is as reliable as it could get when it comes to a TATA - in my books the most reliable TATA ever!

Background :- 15 years of Duty done in abusive terrain and includes many cross country runs too(in the very distant past).

Key Points to note :-

  • Never ever left us stranded even when painfully abused in bad roads
  • Maintenance cost next to ziltch , mostly DIY maintenance with timing belt changed on time
  • Still starts in a single crank every single time - most reliable basic DI engine i have had the maximum experience of ! Its a toyota made by Tata literally - at one point of time one of the highest selling Tata breeds!
  • Over 3.5 Lakhs kms(a safe estimate though speedo has been changed several times and it has been running without speedo for long as well) done without any overhaul whatsoever.
  • Has a 0 accident history ( I wouldn't count bull horn hits, tree falling and other odd mishaps in a farm as accidents )
  • Everything is nearly original!

Some pictures as below :-

Its parked in the open place which has one of the highest rain fall in MH.

20130721_162115.jpg

Ageing rusting, but still serving - A worthy die hard soldier.
The rust is nothing compared to the age of the sumo warrior!

20130721_162132.jpg

Hole in the bonnet which pours rain on the air filter - caused by something that hit it from the sky!

20130721_162145.jpg

20130721_162155.jpg

Has had no dents/touchup jobs whatsoever, all original panels!

20130721_162205.jpg

Spartan interiors!

20130721_162226.jpg

Some flora growing in the interiors as well - am sure a few organisms/rodents have made it its home

20130721_162237.jpg

Seats are still so hard , you might wonder which cushion Tata used then [:D]

20130721_162244.jpg

Just a 9k run Sumo

20130721_162311.jpg

20130721_162319.jpg

Bald tyres which make you feel as if you are rallying at 40kmph!

20130721_162123.jpg

To me this is the epitome of Tata reliability - in my books nothing beats this! Old Basic, Spartan but trust worthy war hardened soldier! My little salute and tribute! I probably will never ever sell this!

Current state is engine works in great condition, suspension makes noises but all is well, tires are way beyond their life span.

This weekend replaced the fan belt as it got ripped off and lost somewhere and we realized it because the brakes were far too hard and nearly not working (its fun to drive a brake less vehicle in rural roads! ) - I fitted the fan belt and now everything works including the water pump and alternator - its back for the soldier drill! Current running is limited to rural areas only, hence not much running about 8-10k annually!

Great review on the survey, my only suggestion is to keep the car with yourself forever and maybe you can restore it as a comfortable vehicle for rural runabouts. Those interiors are decent IMO.

@IR

Mind blowing and excellent story of your Sumo !! Kudos to Sumo and you[clap]. A small doubt

Why you are not getting that painted in rusted areas at least if you want to retain the original paint and why you are not changing its tyres looking the places it runs. Also you need to fix that carpet area I feel

Like he said earlier, he doesn't use the car much, also the farm cars should be basic and rugged.

Ah, reminds me of my SUMO. We owned a similar model for 2 years 1998-2000. He had so many family outings, us kids at the very back. Never will forget.
