Re: Tata Indica V2 DLS - List of Problems. Help Required!

Sam, I am bit surprised to see your POV . I thought you loved machines. I am sure after selling, it would be used by third party and not recycled unlike in west.

Anyway.
shrikant ,Lookslike you wish an ailment for it . But mark my word never go with Tass , they are here to loot .You can rely on independent service centre like TVS or similar reputed ones if you have.
Those Indicator stalk if not broken could be repaired just by stripping and cleaning.

Are your suspension alright. Why do you say one side is dipressed ?
It was an TVS service centre who changed my 500km old fan belt without asking me. So you cannot rely on anybody but yourself or your friends.

Even after trying almost everything, I am unable to completely get rid of the initial belt squeaking sound for at least first 60 to 90 seconds after start. There are two different types of sound one is a sharp whistle type of sound the second is just the sound of some pulley turning fast. Will replacing the pulley itself help?

Re: Tata Indica V2 DLS - List of Problems. Help Required!

Old Car & its problems  I guess its high time I changed my car !

So I have this loud rattling/vibrating sound coming now from the from front area immediately ONLY upon cold start which goes away as soon as I press the clutch & never comes back for the duration of my drive even if I release the clutch again any number of times even in idle position.

So loud rattling/vibrating sound happens only ONCE on cold start & goes away when clutch is pressed & never comes back again before next cold start & there are many hits on google with "Noisy clutch" & also many suggestions on the indica-users yahoogroup to change clutch fork or clutch release bearing but I am not so clear.

Has this been discussed here before? Any pointers

OK, if that is the case, fine I respect your love for Indica and suggest that please enquire and catch hold of a genuine & professional mechanic only works for Indica, do not go to any TASS for these works.

I know somebody like that in my city, he is just excellent and amazing. He solves the problems precisely and those will never repeat again and he charges very reasonable. Reason, he is passionate of TATA cars.

So check in your city and take the help of our TAI members of Mumbai too and find out the good mechanic and get the work done there. You can even check with our Pune members as it is not too far for you
Hello Gurrala74,

I am from Hyderabad and looking for a good mechanic for my Indica DLS V2 2004 model. It is done 87000 Kms.

The Engine makes some unfamiliar sound and want to get it checked with an expert mechanic that can identify the real problem. Also have 2-3 other minor problems to be rectified.

Can you share the contact details of the mechanic that you mentioned ? Thanks in advance. [:)]

@standle Indica V2 is a noisy vehicle & most of it cannot be completely fixed is the answer most mechanics will give you in the end!

I sold my Indica V2 DLS 2002 model in August 2013 after using it for about 12 years! So I know what you are talking about. If you have any specific query then just post & I might be able to give you some input.

One thing I can tell you is that most diesel vehicles are relatively noisier machines at least in the outside, the key is how insulated or sound proof the passenger cabin is.

Re: Tata Indica V2 DLS - List of Problems. Help Required!

Last saturday got my Indica 2004 front wheel bushes changed.
I stay at Attapur, Hyderabad and there is a reliable four wheeler spares shop nearby. I buy the spares and then approach the service center for servicing or repairs.

I bought the bushings for Indica and approached maximus service center. When they saw the spares they outrightly said that we at this workshop do not repair, we just replace the parts. They were interested in completely replacing the lower arm along with the bushes. Only bushes will not be replaced.

Then I approached another local mechanic at pillar 90 (of PVNR expressway). He agreed to replace the bushes and said that some bushings are easy to replace some need to be burnt and also one set of bushes need to machine pressed. I insisted that he quotes the charges before proceeding further. He quoted 600 (his charges) + 200 (machine press charges).

During the repair, the mechanic decided to extract some more money from me (I was not aware then). He said that the Bushing joint also need to be replaced and he knows a very good dealer and the bushing joints will be delivered if ordered on phone. I inquired about the manufacturer and price. Mechanic said it is a QMS company product and price is 370 per side, so 740 for both sides. I insisted on buying Telco original parts. His dealer did not have it. I told him to wait for 15 mins and will get the original parts. Took auto and bought the original Telco bushing joint set at the same price that was mentioned above.

The bushing fitting is done, now comes the payment. The mechanic said that I need to pay 200 extra because he needs to pay for burning the bushes using gas cutter. I told him that he quoted buring and fixing bushes to be 600 and 200 for machine fixing. He did not budge. I finally paid the extra 200 and thought of giving him some gyan but opted not to and left from there as it would be of no use and got the wheel alignment done.

I should have checked the bushing joints before agreeing to buy a new set. Also I think we need to be more aggressive while dealing with local mechanics. Being soft and respectful might not help. Your thoughts please.

Your thoughts please.
My thoughts are your maintenance experience is an almost exact replica of mine starting from 2009 to 2013 with my Indica. Its typical of Indica owners to be DIY types.[:)] I have gone through quite a few of these experiences with local mechanics in 4 years & actually ended up being sortoff friends with some of these mechanics.

Yeah but one needs to be vigilant while dealing with local mechanics unless you are yourself an auto mech expert with knowledge about this. The auto repair/maintenance industry like any other today has sort of a "no ethics" attitude & this includes a lot ASS.

When I had taken my car to a local mechanic for checking the bearings about he had mentioned the bushes & almost similar cost to yours for machine pressing etc.

One question though did you change bearings as well? Whats the difference?
& what was your reason to change bushes? Any problems you were facing?

Did not change the bearing. There is another similar story with bearings. [;)]

I went for wheel alignment and balancing. Fortunately, the owner of the shop was there working hands-on and during the balancing and fitting they found that the wheel is not static. Vertically if you hold it tight and shake it, it does shake 3-4 degrees.

The wheel alignment shop owner advised me that bushing might have got weak and to get it replaced. He said that after the bushes are replaced, you can get the wheels realigned for no extra cost with him. Indeed he did not charge anything.

Bushes are thick rubber valves between the suspension and the wheel. Because of wear and tear, they do decay. It is a set of 8-10 valves of different sizes.

The decay also depends on the road conditions that the car frequently roams on. Apart from main roads, the arterial roads in Hyderabad are full of speed breakers and potholes. People construct private speed breakers on roads in front of their shops/houses to suit their needs.

With the latest alignment, I was suggested to change the front two rims [:)].

Dear All
I am having TATA Indigo-CS LX. While running all bulbs (low and high beam) fused at a stretch, the speed slow down, the check engine indicator glows, the battery no charge indicator glows for a second, The RPM meter reading comes down to zero for a second and take up the original position. The vehicle was serviced by the TATA motors, Puducherry and replaced the Timing belt and accesseries and water pump also. I have replaced the battery also with a new one. But the same problem continues after service also.
Kindly give suggestion to rectify these problems.
Thanks in advance.

Check for short-circuit happening somewhere in the wiring between the + & - polarity of the battery due to vibration during running, might be a likely cause & it will be obviously intermittent & difficult to track down! Check for loose ends of wires & ensure all joints & connections are taped with insulation tape wherever possible.

Tata Indica V2
If this car was not made by TATA and sold then TATA would have beat many leading car sellers in India.
Poor taxi field fell on cheaper more mileaged diesel car.
And still struggling to come out of it.
All the problems of TATA Indica V2 not discussed but hope you had enough.
The warranty given for Taxi Indica is 30000kms which it will cover in 1 year and the rest is history.
And Guys please dont blame the service, a well engineered car needs less maintenance which the other makers had already proved.
Sorry if i had hurt any V2 owners.

Nope you are not hurting anybody don't worry. [;)]

well engineered or not BUT it is probably still the very first indigenously designed car in India & not like Maruti which is just a subsidiary of a japanese company from day one . source Tata Indica - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

of course TM later tied up with Fiat for Vista engine only etc.
