Re: Tata Indica V2 DLS - List of Problems. Help Required!

Thank you all for your valuable comments.[:)] Since we are new to TATA family, we were only aware of what should be done periodically. Inspite of that, we faced above issues. Can anyone say what it will cost for engine de carbonising..? Regarding tyre issue, there is also little wobbling.. Tyre balancing and alignment was done frequently. But this issue still exists.
Please do not de-carbonize this engine,it is not safe to de- carbonize an engine which had done 100000kms.
Use a synthetic oil instead of de-carbonizing this helps in cleaning off unwanted carbon in the engine.
I am with 'SAM' in this case and the price you paid for a 2009 indica V2 DLS Taxi which had done 125000 is much much more.

And Brother sorry to say that you are going to pay much much more on the decision on buying this car.
Get rid of it if you have an option.

Hi Sanky, thank you for the detailed reply. Your detailed input has helped us a lot (especially about the engine oil, HL upgrade & glowplugs). At present we got the oil change done at a local garage (Mobil 1 as you suggested) & the rest of things will follow soon. Thanks again
I am glad that I was of some help. Many have helped me in need. Just trying to pass the goodwill around. BTW the full name of the oil was Mobil 1 Delvac. Even that is recommended by Tata. Can change it after 7000kms. Hope thats the one you got.

Decarbonising

Indica DLS is underpowered. Even with 3 people it starts gasping for breath. With 5 people, overtaking on highways cud be risky. Not much you can do abt it other than going a gear lower.

They say a small layer of carbon protects the engine. Regular diesel oil has enuf detergents to clean the excess carbon in the engine. But if you feel that there is too much carbon in your engine, you can try this:

1. Change oil and filter with the cheapest oil available in the market. Use it for say 200-400 kms or abt 15 days with decent use. Change oil anf filter agin.

2. There cud be buildup of soot in the exhaust system ( silencer, cat-con and related pipes). Get that cleaned from a mech. Or rev the engine at 4000 rpm for abt 5-10 secs.

3. Abt the water seaping in, you might have to change the beadings as a small hole somewhere cud be the issue. For rust you will need touchup after rust removal.

Also i can able to hear some strange screeching noise from engine when it is accelerated in first gear..
If the tyres are old, get them replaced nd then do the alignment. If still an issue, change the lower arms of the suspension. That shud solve your problem. Alternatively, you can see if you get the parts where the alignment adjustments are made(dont remember what its called).

The strange sound if it comes only when the engine is cold and may be a little muted later on, then its the alternator belt. Get it tighted. If its wornout, then change it. Cot will be abt Rs. 200 plus labour.(DIY possible)

Get the suspension components checked. The suspension is made of a lot of parts and need to be checked visually to make sure which one needs to be replaced.Check all the bushings as well.

Hi Sandeep. Check the condition of your tyres. Uneven wear/deformation on tyres and wheels that are out of alignment can cause vibrations at speeds. Raise the car on a jack and shake the tyres side to side to see if there is any play. The nuckles cud need replacement in that case.

Abt noise, older tyres become hard and noisy. When changing tyres, get Apollo Acceleres. These are tyres are low on noise and good grip on wet and dry roads. They use Michelin technology and cost lower compared to similar quality tyres. Personal experience with them.

my all 4 tyres are new MRF Radial. And previous week i done allignment and balancing .
Sandeep

If roads are rough you will have noise and vibrations on the steering wheel. Even level concrete roads are rough as compared to tar roads where noise is very low. Dnt worry abt the noise factor. Just see that there is no high speed vibes at the steering wheel. then even with alignment correction you will have problems.

You are supposed to check the suspension components at the time of tire changes.Since you have not, now you should get the suspension system inspected.Worn out suspension and steering arms can cause the wobble.

Re: Tata Indica V2 DLS - List of Problems. Help Required!

While getting my Indica tyres replaced, the person who was doing it told me there could a problem with my front wheels "Ball Bearings" & "Ball joints" & said that those might need replacement & asked me to check with some mechanic who was an expert. The tyre dealer manager also told me it has to be done prior to wheel balancing & alignment if I plan to do that.

I checked with my usual mechanic & he just says since it involves opening the front suspension & car is 10+ years old just replace both front bearings Rs 800 each, both ball joints 350 each & also suspension bush kit not sure what that means! Labour about 1K

Anybody gotten the above done before & knows about all these? Any tips/pointers/advice? Thanks

Sounds good. You can go ahead with bearing and bush change. Just make sure, he does his job well. Bearing inserted by wrong method actually damages the bearing.

he talked about using some lathe for replacement & the 1K includes the lathe charges as well, I so I am guessing he is following the right method.

Removal and mounting of bearings doesn't need a lathe.
If he is known mechanic then trust him and go ahead. Just ask him( since he will be using lathe), which part he is going to machine?
A bad ball bearing can seriously damage its housing and the shaft.
If the part he is going to machine by lathe isn't much costly, better replace it.

Yes, the bush can be replaced in ball joints through lathe only. 1k only for lathe charge seems to be high. Well I gave some 400rs only.

Re: Tata Indica V2 DLS

Hi all,

I have just bought an indica DLS - jan 2007, 90K kms, all new tyres in good condition for 1,35,000 RS.

Kindly suggest me what maintaenance I should carry out so as to prevent problems. No problems are seen as of now but I can't wait till they start coming. Nothing apart from glow plugs, tyres, battery, brake pads and alternator belts have been replaced or had problems yet (as per service records kept by the previous owner)

Thank You,
