Re: Tata X451 Premium Hatchback To Rival Hyundai Elite i20

Now we have almost confirmed news that X451 is not a premium hatch to rival the Baleno and i20 elite, but it is a micro SUV to rival the Maruti Ignis.

So I think Moderator may better plan to change the title of the thread as:

Tata X451 Micro SUV To Rival Maruti Ignis

According to his birdies, it was on test run from 2016.

One of my friend had noticed uncamouflaged hatchback, named as Tiago V2. It is speculated to be X451, as we have no pics to match with rendering.

According to him it was similar to Tiago in size.

So Tiago V2 will be same like Indica V2 way and it is not X451 as that one is a different project.
An Improved Tiago version 2 with changes/updates:

Below could be the changes:
Petrol motor with BALANCER SHAFT
Bigger Tyres/Alloys
wheel arches /cladding

Maybe it will ride on all new AMP platform[glasses]

Any update about how is the build quality going to be in the upcoming model? I sincerely hope, TATA Motors will maintain the good build quality in this one too.

I feel it too early for Tiago facelift/new generation to be on test runs.

No its not too early to change the engine spec and we might not see any design change. It can be just an updated version, not the facelift[;)]
And going by Tata's way of testing and launch time they take, we might not see them early on sales [frustration]

EXCLUSIVE! Tata-VW, Skoda alliance likely to be called off

Sharing Tata’s AMP platform proving to be more complicated than anticipated.

Tata Motors and the Volkswagen (VW) Group, along with its Czech brand Skoda, signed a Memorandum of Understanding at the Geneva motor show in March 2017 to explore a long-term cooperation for joint product development. The alliance was to be centred on the development of a common platform that would spawn bespoke products for the individual brands.
It was initially agreed, after much debate between the two partners, that Tata’s next-gen Advanced Modular Platform (AMP) which offers a significant cost advantage over the VW Group’s MQB-A platform, would be used as the alliance’s common platform.
In the June 2017 issue of Autocar India magazine, we broke the news that these plans have hit a roadblock. According to sources working on this project, both VW and Skoda have become increasingly skeptical about the AMP platform, which is not proving to be as cost-effective as expected. Sources say that for VW and Skoda to jointly develop and adapt the AMP for its own ‘top hats’ could cost an estimated 140 million euros (around Rs 1,000 crore). Skoda engineers have convinced the top management that with such an investment, it’s possible to develop and localise the MQB-A platform for India.
The VW Group had already explored the possibility of bringing its MQB-A platform to India but this was working out to be too expensive for a price-sensitive market such as India. Currently for India, MQB-based products like the VW Tiguan, Skoda Octavia and Superb and the Audi A4 are all assembled locally from imported kits and with very little local content.
VW and Skoda’s high-volume cars are based on the now defunct PQ25 platform and, hence, to introduce a new range of products, the two VW Group brands may have no choice but to bite the bullet and invest in MQB. “In the long term, it is better to develop our own platform as that gives us control of our destiny,” says a VW Group source.
Moreover, there isn't much of an appetite for this cooperation from Tata Motors either. The board feels it would be better to deploy resources and energies towards reviving its ailing commercial vehicle business, company sources revealed. Tata Motors' market share in the CV segment has been plummeting and has hit an all-time low of 38.70 percent in May 2017.
However, Tata Motors is non-committal on the future of the joint cooperation. When contacted, a Tata Motors spokesperson said, "We are currently in the phase of evaluating the potential cooperation based on technical feasibility and adequate levels of synergies. We will communicate concrete details of the outcome at the right time. Till then, it will be premature to disclose any information or respond to such speculations."
A break-up of this joint cooperation could be a big setback for both companies. For VW and Skoda, it will mean going back to the drawing board to develop a new strategy and a fresh platform for India, which would lead to a delay of at least two years before all-new products can be launched. Already, VW India seems to have missed the boat with the all-new Polo, which made its international debut this month.
For Tata, the end of the alliance would mean developing the AMP on its own, without VW’s know-how. Also, going solo will result in ballooning costs, as Tata will not enjoy favourable economies of scale without volumes of VW and Skoda. In fact, the combined volumes from all the three brands for both domestic and global markets were estimated to be as much as 700,000 units per year.
Tata’s first AMP-based car (X451), a premium hatchback, is due for launch in 2019. Future AMP-based models include a sedan crossover (X452) and a Creta-sized SUV but these projects are yet to be signed off by the board.

Tata to take on Hyundai i20, Maruti Suzuki Baleno in 2019

0_578_872_0_100_http---cdni.autocarindia.com-ExtraImages-20170821072401_Tata_X451_Sketch_represe.jpg

Tata Motors has begun work on an all-new hatchback (Codename: X451) that is slated to hit Indian markets sometime in 2019. This new hatchback will be the first model to come off the brand’s flexible Advanced Modular Platform (AMP).

The new AMP platform, similar in concept to VW’s MQB, is made up of 15 individual modules that can be put together to form a complete car. The modules are flexible in size, for example, the floor pan can be scaled for length, width, track and wheelbase, with the latter two being variable by more than 100mm.

According to Tata, the AMP platform will facilitate high commonality between the parts, as much as 80 percent, and that key modules – like the front and rear axles, powertrains, HVAC modules, etc. – will contribute to 70 percent of the vehicle cost.

Apart from the X451 hatchback, which will take on cars the likes of the Hyundai i20, Maruti Suzuki Baleno and Honda Jazz, Tata will also roll out more AMP-based vehicles in the near future. There are also talks of a new City-rivalling sedan and a people mover, along with an SUV.

The AMP platform was to be shared with the VW group, however, the carmaker recently announced that its alliance had been called off due to both sides agreeing that the planned partnership areas may not lead to desired results.

This is an old news repeated. I am not much interested till I see a test mule for which I am waiting with all my eyes open wide. 2019 launch means that test mules of the X451 and then Q502 should be soon out once the NEXON roll out is complete. Q501 is already out on testing.

Re: Tata X451 Micro SUV To Rival Maruti Suzuki Ignis

1) Tata needs to develop more competitive and capable petrol engines, rather than relying on the old Indica Xeta block, which has been remodelled for the 1.2 Revotron. All said and done, the Hyundai, Honda and Suzuki are virtually unchallenged in terms of performance and efficiency. The only engines that outscore them are the ones which are used by a marginal number of car owners , namely, VW TSi 1.2 and the Abarth 1.4.
Even Jeep has brought in Fiat's latest 1.4 Multi Air engines for the Compass.
2) Revamp the interiors a bit more. Throw in the colour TFTs, 7 inch AVN. Make ABS and dual airbags as standard feature across from base models. Make the cars a bit more irresistable.
3) Rebrand the Tata Motors retail sales outlets. Just look at Maruti, after Nexa, they are now calling all their other outlets as Arena. While it may look cosmetic, it shows that a company as large as MSIL is willing to be agile enough to maintain their leadership in all aspects of the automotive life cycle. TML needs to get past the " we make great cars-if you buy them, you will understand" kinda mindset.

TATA's 1.2 Liter 3 CYL all aluminium revetron is a brand new block and does not resemble the old block except the piston as they want to keep the piston shape constant from across the range as it will add to cost savings. This is a modular engine that can be converted into a 4 cylinder configuration too. The engine has been a good work horse and has proven it's mettle in the year of launch as no major complaint has been reported.

Yep they need to provide features. Upsizing screen size is must.

Phase 2 will see it for sure but that will jack up the price as input costs will rise. Now Maruti will hike prices as they have hit the right market and they are desperate to move up to the chain to premium value segment.

Tata Motors likely to presen X451 hatch at Auto Expo – Report

According to a report from ET Auto, Tata Motors will present the pre-production model of two new upcoming SUVs and a hatchback at the 2018 Auto Expo. The 2018 edition of the bi-annual auto show will kick off on February 9.

ET Auto reports that Tata Motors’ design studios in Turin, Italy and Coventry, UK, have almost completed work on the upcoming Tata products. These cars will be designed along applying the company’s ‘Impact’ design philosophy introduced three years ago under the stewardship of Pratap Bose. It has already spawned the Tata Tiago, Tigor, and the Nexon, all of which have invoked interest for their looks and finish.

The two SUVs in question are the Q501 and Q502, which will be targeted at the Hyundai Creta and Jeep Compass respectively. They are based on the Land Rover Discovery Sport’s L550 platform and have been undergoing testing wearing the Discovery Sport’s bodyshell. A media report from August claims the two SUVs will arrive in the 2018-19 fiscal. It would be interesting to watch if the Safari nameplate is used on the Q501 or a new branding.

The hatchback the report speaks about is the Tata X451. Slated to arrive in 2019, the X451 will be positioned above the Tiago to rival premium hatchbacks Maruti Baleno and Hyundai Elite i20. It will become Tata’s first AMP (Advanced Modular Platform) based product when it hits showrooms.

Also on Tata Motors’ products roster is a new entry-level hatchback and a full-size sedan. Both products will be based on the AMP. The latter will essentially be a three-box derivative of the X451 hatchback. It will target the Honda City, Maruti Ciaz, and the Hyundai Verna. The new launches will help Tata enhance its market coverage from the current 71% to 90% by 2020.
