Re: TAI Member Pet's Help and Discussions!

Friends, Please guide me on this, beneath my Honda, a stray female dog has 10minutes back delivered a litter. The pups are yet to open their eyes and the first thing they'll see when they open the eyes would be a Free Flow Exhaust and Alloy wheels of my car as its kind of their 1st home. What precautions do I need to take to keep the pups alive since its summer here so any special attention needed?

I have told my guards to arrange a big cardboard box and make a make-shift place to keep the litter. Also I won't be moving my Honda from the parking till next 4-5 days until the pups open their eyes.

Suggestions welcomed.

Regards

Akash

Buddies, Whole day spent traveling. Man, the weather is too bad and Gurgaon traveling is nothing less than an achievement in this weather. Dust, Traffic Jam and what not. So, I reached to the my uncle's nephew's home in Gurgaon and was greeted by this affectionate, and really cute fur ball female lab. Her name is Chikka. Played with her and busted stress.

So finally the first pics of the "Petro-Pups". Reason I call them Petro Pups is simply because they were all born beneath my Honda as stated!

Re: driving with pets in your car !

Need advice/experience on taking pets in a car.
I owned a Lahsa Apso during my school days,it use to travel with us alot if we were away for many days.

- Make sure dog sits on floor of car if possible cos dog can keep sliding off seat in emergency braking,if its a puppy make sure front under seat is blocked to prevent them from popping up near the pedals when your driving.
- Carry a bowl to give the dog water during rest stops, preferably a stop once every 2 hours would be sufficient.
- Make sure you carry an old towel or bedsheet to make sure the floor the dog sits on is comfortable.
- When your parking for Lunch or any food stop & your leaving your pet behind in the car make sure all for windows are slightly opened to ensure proper ventilation.
Other members can add in suggestions

Posting an example pic of exactly the dog i had during school days, have many found memories of traveling with him.

apart from what prads said here are some inputs from me. I have a relatively large breed (solid black german shepherd) so he cant sit on the floor between front and rear seat.

1. discourage your dog whenever he tries to come and sit on the front passenger seat. He has to understand that his place on on the rear seat, make him sit there. 4-5 times and he will understand that front passenger seat isn't for him.

2. Put a bedsheet on the rear seat (and back rest) to protect your leather seats or seat covers.

3. dogs get excited whenever he/she sees you taking your car out/in to the garage (atleast mine does). Open the passenger door and let him in and then maneuver the car into/out of the garage. You wont have to worry about running over your dog in such case.

4. Keep AC on all the times during the summers, dog may start vomiting even if you keep windows open.

5. don't open window glasses by more than 5-7cm, gap should be enough only to let your dog poke his nose out of the gap. he shouldn't be able to jump out of that gap to fight with other dogs (this is an actual possibility if you have an aggressive dog)

6. Ideally someone should sit there on the backseat with your dog to support him during hard braking or whenever he sees some other street dogs roaming outside the car (my dog gets aggressive seeing them and I have to calm him down).

7. during breaks on the long trips. take your dog for a short walk to let him 'mark his area' with strong leash/chain and belt. make sure you keep him away from the road. give him water to drink (carry his bowl) and food to eat during these breaks.

your dog will get bored sitting on the backseat within 30-40 mins and would start sleeping on it. Just make sure someone is sitting with him to protect him from falling off of the seat during hard braking. drive carefully and slowly when you are carrying your dog in your car.

attached picture shows how my dog sits on the rear seat with me.

some other pics of ''husky'', my solid black GSD.

I have a native breed, He is a quick learner and understands commands but he gets aggressive when he sees a dog or if someone shoos him. I too have a spark, but i am afraid he will interfere with the driving He always wants me to rub his underbelly, I wish i had a muv or suv so that i can tie him on the last row.

don't tie him in the car. I did that mistake once when my dog was around 6 months old. If you cant get someone to sit with him on the backseat, take your dog for short drives (like a drive to the vet) and see how he reacts. dogs are usually calm when the car is in motion.
Only when its stationary they try to move to the front seat. But once he understands that he cant under any circumstance sit on the front seat. he wont go there. He might lick your ears from the back seat whenever he wants to grab your attention, just call his name and tell him to sit down (what ever your keyword is, command him to sit down) and see if that works.

Friends,

The Petro Pups waiting for their evening dinner on my home's gate. They all are really particular on their feeding time. Can't even take a delay of 10-15 minutes.[lol]

Veerey, They all were born beneath my car and since childhood and teenage, I wished to have pups and dogs as pets. So with god's grace, I have got 6 of them now, one was stolen without me seeing by my driver to which he obviously denied. So now these 6 are like a family, I have a person dedicated to them who feeds them 3 times a day as per timing told. They are now nearing 3 months but really all of them are playful[:D]. Ever since the day they were born, I have seen them grow up. The feeling is special!!

Re: TAI Member Pet's Help and Discussions!

Akash, i think it will be better if you keep a couple of pups with you. Give away the other pups to friends/relatives who will take care at all costs and will not abandon them..Most people dont like native breeds though.

I have a native breed . It was 6 month old when i found it under my spark. I moved to my hometown on last jan 2014 , this dog used to sleep infront of our house which was unused, he later started to sleep under the car. During rainy season he was there without cover so i let him inside the compound and in course of time he started to bark from outside whenever it rained to let him in.

He becomes aggressive when someone shooed him, and one day my neighbour called the municipality dog catcher to have this dog removed from the area, but this dog ran away and returned by evening. This made me to adopt this dog . He obeys commands and made me realise that native breeds are good pets.

Are you having them inside your compound or in the street, because if they are on street you may held responsible for their nuisances. Some think feeding street dogs is wrong. A old woman in chennai fed a dozen dogs in the street i lived.

Honestly, none of my relatives are as enthusiastic as me to take care and keep these pups. Moreover, separating them from their siblings is a harsh thing which I can't do buddy.

I have been taking care of them since day 1. Me and one of my guards have taken up the responsibility to take care of them and feed them. It rained just 2-3 days back here in Delhi-NCR, so they moved out from my car to other one and later returned. Till now, they have chewed off my car's fog lamp wiring, Broke a Gamla (Flower Pot)[:D].

They are in my own empty plot where I park my cars. They sleep under my cars and roam in the plot or max in 100m of area near my home. Up-till now, these pups have only spoiled a kitchen garden of my neighbor with their paws but his sons love them too so did not bother to even tell us instead provided them with calcium bone which helps them in growing years.[:)]
