I know this is off topic , but how is BMW maintenance after 5 years? Im eyeing a bunch of cars(Used BMW, Audi) before going in for Endeavour or Tucson
Our usage is very less and Im obviously staying as clear as possible from Audis, but BMW seems tempting for me
Was hoping someone could give me an eye opener since I see alot of Love-Hate for BMW
PS- I also owned a Superb 2nd gen until last year, tonnes of issues though we loved the car but unreliability and low usage made us sell it
Most notable issue is the AC like you said and random sensors going kaput within 3 years
Our bills were an easy 50-80k per year later on
First, between Merc, Audi, BMW. I will choose BMW hands down. It's the ultimate driving machine. I don't mean that Merc and Audi are not that great , they are absolutely ultimate cars to drive. Now, would I buy one ? That too a pre-owned one, which is more than 5 years old? Absolutely not.
Okay, let's say if I have to buy one. Then I would prefer Benz. Because it has been there from a long time in India, so spare parts will be available easily, because I am more of a DIY guy. That too I will look for models that are a bit old school. (Not too much of complicated electronics.)
How would I use it ?
I will take for 1-2 km ride every night when there is no traffic to a nearest club or ice cream shop and put it back in my garage. If something major happens, I won't even think of getting it repaired. I will directly sell it. So would I suggest anyone ? Absolutely not again.
If you want to buy a BMW, my suggestion would be to buy it brand new with packages like BMW secure.
My close friend bought a 2nd hand 3year old BMW 530d for 24 lakhs and he spent 4 lakhs in 3 years time on maintenance. I must say that the car never gave any problems until now. And I am not taking BMW secure and insurance into account. And he never takes his car out when there are rains. So it's an headache affair with these German cars for a few moments of enjoyment.
On the bottom line, You would be more happier with Accord, Camry, Fortuner, Endeavour or Tucson than buying any German car.
Mainly availability of spares, expert technicians are scarce, heavy import taxes and lastly these German cars are just not made for our roads or environment.
Those days of 1st gen Skoda Octavia 1.9 TDI with Pump Duse engine and Mercedes E class W124 were super reliable are gone. Just remember, in any car more the electronics, more the headaches. That's why I always prefer old school stuff.
