What lesson Indian manufacturers should learn. Indians don't like Indian products or Indians will anyway choose foreign products of the same class however good the Indian products are..!!

Not talking about Kwid alone. In general this is the case. Isn't it ?

Yaah its a nice budget hatchback with amazing exterior. But man its interior, I am not impressed with it. And it doesn't even have basic features like AC and PS. No standard safety features and no power steering in mid variant Renault Kwid.
I am a bit disappointed with this car. From out of 5 I'll give only 3 star to this car.

Jagrover, you are almost right. But,tata must learn to design better than the nano.If Renault can come up with a car as cheap as this, what was that ,which prevented tata to come up with a better design for nano? Who told that nano must look like an odd ball design?Even after the third iteration, the main drawback with nano is the look from outside. I agree there is an infatuation for Indians for things that are not Indian, but that doesn't mean Indians should own cars, that look ugly.

Buddy.. Nano is a different story altogether. 6 year old story. It was designed and developed based on a promise. That odd ball design offers more space than even the Kwid. If Renault has to make a car with all those restrictions then result would have been different. After some time Datsun's iteration of Kwid will come. But it will not sell like this. Hugely the buzz is because of the Brand. Kwid weighs lower than Nano AMT. Nano definitely has its short comings. But that is an engineering marvel. Don't know how many will support me. Again when Nano came with 3 wheel nuts everyone criticised but now for Kwid everyone seems happy.

I agree with you completely.

That 'odd-ball' design alongwith placement of the engine at the rear has allowed Tata Motors to offer almost the entire volume for passengers, which is surprisingly more than most other compact hatchbacks. Most people don't realise the advantages of this compact design + abundant passenger space + tall seating, while using the Nano for everyday commutes, generally happening in congested city/town roads. Over the last 4-5 years Tata Motors has managed to bring the quality of the Nano & the feel to very respectable levels. Now it's time for a major technical upgrade in the next iteration.

The Kwid's could be reaching the showrooms in different parts of the country now. I think the deliveries were said to start around the 10th of October. But don't know if the Transporters strike is affecting this in any way. Many showrooms had already received Display cars. But TD cars will be different than Display cars. Hope the process smoothens out atleast by 15th October.

I said,I agree to the engineering gone in to that. But what makes the car different is its outer design. I loved nano, but why it flopped even after garnering thousands of booking? We had talked over it again and again. The current design of nano is not much better than that of the first generation. For an example, the feeble front tyres are still on.There is a look to the car which says again and again "I can improve, please make me better".Nano shows some kind of lame excuse that the car is designed liked that out of necessity rather than a design by choice. In the kwid's case,it is not about Renault name.Indians are very cautious about new brands.I don't think it is the nano at stake any more.Nano AMT is a cute city car. Kwid is an overgrown hatch .Kwid is going to kill something bigger.

When they said kwid is 97% local, it has become a indian product. Made by indian engineers with help of some foreign engineers. When buying a CAR Indians dont see whether a car is made by foreign company or indian. They have criteria like budget, looks and stature, mileage and then the features to buy a car. Market supports car which fits the criteria and discards one which is bad

Now since the car is launched, I understand Ranault is not going to add ABS and Dual airbags in it very soon. For that may be we have to wait for another 2-3 years. One more top end variant with atleast ABS was needed.

The A/c and P.S version itself is VFM, It's better spending quite a few bucks.

Really? How much more exactly ?

A good product with good customer service will be accepted for sure, it may fail to attract mass numbers initially, but eventually it will get what it deserves. XUV, Bolero, Scorpio are examples of Indian cars leading in their segments. But if the same manufacturer tries to sell Quanto or Logan it becomes a failure. Even MSIL had market failures in form of Estilo and now the celerio diesel.

Airbags won't be of any use unless the bodyshell is rigid enough. And, at 660 kg kerb weight I am doubtful about it's structural strength.
