Re: Powered By M-Hawk: Mahindra Scorpio SLE. 4 years and 60000+ km

Update:

ODO: 63380km

1.ABS warning sign
  • Was out on a trip yesterday and suddenly the ABS warning sign came on for almost two hours. Once the vehicle was restarted the sign went away. Went to ITL motors, Palakkad today. A diagnostic scan revealed an error code from front right ABS sensor. They erased it and went for a trial drive connecting the device and found everything[signals from all 4 wheels] to be normal. Could have been due to water/moisture the culprit, thanks to the heavy rain.

2.No sound/alarm from centre lock system
  • The centre lock siren seemed to have its own mind. Got it corrected, again seems like water/ some lose points in the hooter.Wanted to replace it but didn’t have it in stock, so got it cleaned and placed it back.

3.Idling RPM appears to be around 1000rpm,thanks to Superbad again.
  • Got a detailed scan and the result showed a healthy 799-800rpm on neutral in idle. Should be some thing to do with the positioning of the needle in the instrument cluster. Not a concern at all.

4.The latest FE figure
  • 10.86 km/L with 100% AC [ a bit on the lower side, when compared with the figures returned earlier]. Need to do another trial and confirm.

5.Wheel alignment and balancing:
  • Got it done a couple of days ago from a reputed center, Track Tyre & Care, Palakkad, which is also an authorized Bridgestone dealer at Palakkad. Was pleased to confirm that the Camber has been positioned right.

Re: Powered By M-Hawk: Mahindra Scorpio SLE. 4 years and 60000+ km

Oops !
Actually the idling rpm on neutral in my Scorpio hovers around 900.[confused]
I thought, it’s due to the angle [from right hand side] at which the picture was taken made you read it as 1.1k.
Thanks any ways and will certainly give it for a diagnostic scan next time when I visit A.S.S.
Pictures below were taken at TWO different angles- one set when the engine is off and the other idling on neutral.

yup . its normal . because the picture(angle) made me appear as 1.1k rpm on idle.[embarass]

felt like its no harm to mention it.

i got my cluster meter changed for that reason [;)]

Re: Powered By M-Hawk: Mahindra Scorpio SLE. 4 years and 60000+ km

Update:

  • The ABS warning sign keeps coming on regularly. The vehicle was inspected and now they say that the entire wiring kit [of ABS] need to be replaced. None of the ITL,motor ASCs in Kerala have it in stock. According to them they have placed an order and will take another 10-15 days to get it fro Mahindra.
  • While the vehicle was at the ASC, Palakkad I got the stab-bar-bushes + a rubber insulator hanger replaced as the ride was getting a bit rough for Rs.520 including labour. Also got the fuel filter and brake pads cleaned. Also the clutch pedal and all door locks lubricated.
  • A quick visit to Velankanni:
BTW, I visited Velankanni yesterday. Started at 4.15 am from Palakkad and reached Velankanni at 11.00am.
Route taken:Palakkad-Pollachi-Palani-Dindigul-Trichy-Tanjavur-Mannargudi-Velankanni
Excellent roads throught.
Return:Left Velankanni for Rajakkad/Idukki at 1.00pm and reached the destination at 9.00pm.
Velankanni-Mannargudi-Tanjavur-Trichy-Dindigul-Theni-Body-Poopara-Rajakumari-Rajakkad
Except for the Theni Ghat section, the rest of the roads are good. Since the road widening work is on, the theni ghat section is a nightmare and not recommended especially in dark.

Except that the ABS sign was on consistently, the drive was enjoyable and no issues experienced at all. The braking too was excellent as I was a bit more cautious considering that the ABS wouldn’t work if I had to brake hard.
The drive was smooth and the FE returned was 11.88km/L with 100%AC.[:)]

BTW, Just a few more days left in India. Will be returning to Palakkad tomorrow Via Alappuzha.

Parting really is a sweet sorrow but I had to take my leave [:)]

ABS warning [update]:
Surprisingly, my SA has advised me to send the vehicle for a complete inspecion of the entire ABS wiring so that he could repair it rather than changing the whole assembly all together[appx 5.5k]. He says that, he needs the vehicle with him for a minimum of two days.

After the rains, I will be sending my scorpy to A.S.S for
1. ABS wiring related issues.
2. An under body anti-rust treatment.

How beautifully you have maintained your Scorpio kudos to you [clap]
You join the list of owners who keep their Scorpio as if just brought from showroom along with mukeshus.

How often you polish and wax the car ?

Thanks Raja. Just polished once and no waxing done at all. Had gotten the Teflon protection done at the time of delivery, four years ago. Only that I don't like travelling dirty, I make sure that its in good state and shape after every single outing.

Hi manoj the ABS wire harness is not a part worth 5.5k.

Issue with ABS i was facing: http://www.theautomotiveindia.com/f...-silver-50-000-kms-counting-13.html#post50997
Check my post here: http://www.theautomotiveindia.com/f...-silver-50-000-kms-counting-14.html#post55158

And before replacing the ABS wire harness, battery needs to be disconnected and then worked upon.

Well maintained Hawk.[:)]

Re: Powered By M-Hawk: Mahindra Scorpio SLE. 4 years and 60000+ km

Update:

Thanks to the Area Manager@Cochin, Mahindra & Mahindra and the Service Manager at Mahindra Dealership-Trissur, my Scorpio will be picked up by a gentleman from the Dealership at my home tomorrow morning for a detailed examination of its ABS related issue.

Though there is a MASS in my hometown, it was decided to get the detailed examination done at a "better equipped" facility at Trissur which is a bit further away from my home.

They will be in touch with me over the phone/e-mail with the proceedings and shall post the updates accordingly.

Re: Powered By M-Hawk: Mahindra Scorpio SLE. 4 years and 60000+ km

Received an e-mail from the SM apologizing for the delay in picking up the vehicle this morning. The person is already on his way to my home.

So far, the response from Mahindra/Dealership has been exemplary. I sincerely hope that the issues are corrected and I am not presented with a "bomb", at the end of the ordeal, especially considering the fact that my Scorpio is no more in the warranty period. The FOUR year warranty period got expired in last July.[roll]

Hi Manoj, tell them to look into ABS wire harness, they need not change the wheel speed sensor.
In my case even that was changed.
When they follow this procedure, battery terminal has to be disconnected and work has to be done.

The gentleman from the Dealership reached home at around 1.00pm[IST] and received an update from the SM confirmig that the vehicle is now at their facility. He has been very resposible and prompt in all his actions so far and told me in an email his next update will be after having done the inspection and diagonsis.

Thanks Mukesh. That is exactly what MASC at palakkd told me earlier.
But this time around, since some senior management is involved, I am leaving the entire thing to them, which I believe is their job, with the only condition being that the issue reported is solved permanently.

Re: Powered By M-Hawk: Mahindra Scorpio SLE. 4 years and 60000+ km

Update:

Got a detailed e-mail from the SM stating the following:,The estimate really is a little "bomb"= Rs. 10,526 including labour and Tax.

  • They detected a faulty RH ABS sensor and a malfunctioning [Stuck]Power Window.
  • All stabiliser bar [front & rear] bushes and Rear [RH] & front stabiliser links needs replacements as the rubber seemed to have got hard and lost flexibility. Blame it partly on the poor quality rubber and also lack of regular exercise for the suspension parts [vehicle rarely used these days].
Scan 1.jpg

They have already replaced the faulty ABS sensor and road tested. As I requested I wanted to get the 70,000km service too done this time around. He gave me an estimate of Rs.9,000 including all major oil including that of the differential and filter and re-tightening of all mounts.

But Withyouhamesha.com says differently quoting an estimate of about Rs.2370 for the 70k km for my SUV. Sent an e-mail to him attaching a copy of this estimate and asked him to confirm on this.

My Scorpio 70000km service.jpg

He was saying that the service history data only says "repairs" not any recent "scheduled services". Again I took a copy of the last 4 services including the 50k and 60k with multiple check ups in between and sent it to him.

He has only corrected the ABS issue and is waiting for my reply on the remaining works including the suspension bushes, power window and 70k service. I can actually put up with everything except for the critical ABS sensor and I am sure not many Scorpio owners are getting those rubber bushes changed every 5k kms.But it does make a world of difference as far as ride quality is concerned.

Edit: I have also asked him to confirm that the ABS wiring harnes is fine as the other A.S.C at Palakkad was suspecting it to be the culprit.

The total Estimate as of now = 10,526 + 9,000 = Rs.19,526

P.S:
  • All Prospective/ New Scorpio owners, the 4 YEAR Warranty cover is highly reccomended.
  • The SM has been very professional and prompt so far and the quote of Rs.9000 for the 70k service should havebeen due to the lack of clarity in their service history data as this has not been my regular service station off late.
