Re: Powered By M-Hawk: Mahindra Scorpio SLE. 3.5 Years and 50,000 Kms

@mukeshus. No there were no signs a all.

Details:

After they stopped the vehicle at the Attibele Toll Plaza, the clutch failed and couldn’t engage gears. They pushed the vehicle to a corner. After seeing a big pool of oil just below gear box, they called Mahindra helpline. In a few minutes time they received a call from the nearest Mahindra ASS, SKS Hosur. The ASS technicians arrived at the site at around 8.00 pm and identified the problem as clutch failure. The vehicle was towed to SKS hosur within a few hours.

From Bangalore airport in a taxi we reached Hosur to join them at 3.00am yesterday.Next day, at around 7.00am, I called up the ASS Manager, Mr.Arif. He came a bit early at around 8.45am, took the inventory by himself. He started the vehicle in first gear and drove it in to the work area and got FOUR technicians to work on it on an emergency basis, wasting no time.

  • The clutch cylinder was replaced under warranty with zero labour so the total damage zero.
  • He also showed me the worn out Clutch plate and said it would run for
another 10000 kms. But I thought of changing that as well and got a new clutch plate which cost 7600 Rs in total. There were no labour fee charged at all for the whole thing.

The work was done in about 2 hours and he along with me took the test drive at around 10.45am and the vehicle was at its best again. A 5 hour work was done in 2 hours with more people deployed with an efficient supervision. Thanks to Mr. Arif and Co for the wonderful and highly professional show at the Mahindra ASS, Hosur. We thanked them and left Hosur at around 12.00 yesterday.[clap]

I was totally upset with the incident of that clutch failure all of a sudden as there were no signs of such thing at all. In fact it was just a week earlier, scorpio got a detailed 55k service at ITL motors Palakkad. But the way Mahindra responded was brilliant. If the incident had happened before 5.00pm, it should have got it done on the same day in a couple of hours time.

I had a quick drive to salem as we wanted to have lunch at Saravana Bhavan after Salem. We reached there at 2.15pm and had a wonderful lunch. Later got back home in the evening by 7.00pm.

Good to see that hawk is back in shape.

Just visit my thread, if possible get the rubber tube of clutch cylinder changed, which costs a meagre 192/-.

Did a wonderful long Palakkad-Munnar[Rajakkad]- Pooppara-Bodi-Theni-Periyakulam-Kodiakanal trip with 6 people on board and I am back in palakkad now. With the addition of more and more kilometers on ODO,the scorpy is riding smoother and it breezed through all sort of surfaces exceedingly well.

With such a performance and utmost comfort, with no rattles whatsoever, I don’t feel like even thinking of an upgrade in the future, at least for another three years or so.

I Shall post a travelogue with loads of pics, once I am back in China [:)]

Enjoyed every bit of approx. 4000km drive in about 20 days during my visit to India. On 16th Feb, when I drove my m-hawk to Bangalore airport to take my flight back to china, I couldn’t believe the fact that it is almost 4 years old. The very responsive but silent engine, the clean and aromatic [as always] interior with quality music and the beautiful Yokohama made sure the 8 hour drive to BLR was yet another refreshing and exciting experience indeed.

Just before my return, I got it checked at the ASS after finding that the front left yoko showing some abnormal wear along the edges. A day before, when I went to a reputed Wheel Alignment centre in palakkad, they found that the Camber was out and the front left wheel wan't perpendicular to the surface. The top of the tire was tilting away from the vehicle with camber being very positive, something around +1.30 [surprise].

At first the ASS people said, they wouldn't adjust the Camber as it would unsettle "caster" and "Toe" settings and they would just correct the alignment and send the vehicle. [anger]

But I insisted that if the Camber is not adjusted the tyre will continue to wear out. After that they played around with "camber" "Caster" and "Toe" seetings and finally received a call saying everything has been corrected. I got the tyre rotation done and collected the vehicle. The next day, while driving around 500km or so on my way to bangalore, I kept checking for any wear along the edges of the front tyres.

As I was finding all tyres in good health and alignment, I received a call from Mahindra ASS, Palakkad inquiring if the problem solved. Smilingly I thanked her and replied,

'everything is fine as of now and see you in June".
