Re: Ownership Review: Polo 1.2 TDI Comfortline (Diesel)

Seems the Apollo Accelere tyres seem to be having a life of around 35-37k kms only. Even Rightnow posted of a probable tyre wearing out problem sometime back when he crossed 33k mark on his odo.
No GM, I instead said that I don't see any wear/tear on tyres, but a difference in handling is certainly there showing aging of the tyres.

I too is not happy with the 35K life of Apollo tyre even though they are quite comfortable, I expected them to cross at least 40K mark but they gave up completely and develop couple of surface cracks too. I stopped driving Explorer-1 completely till the tyre change.
I am hopeful that my tyres last up to 40k. Will post some pics soon.

Polo Updates

Got the front two tyres replaced today opted for Yokohama A drive 185/70/14 this time, was using stock Apollo Acelere 175/70/14 earlier. Paid INR4000 for a piece with tax paid bill and 3 years warranty, vendor was B.K tyres A108, Lajpat Nagar-II.

Earlier I used to purchase tyres from Chadha tyre shoppe Mayapuri but after reading lots of positive reviews online I gave a try to B.K tyres this time incidentally they are also one of authorized vendors of Yokohama India.

Due to poor condition of my existing tyres they didn't offer anything for them, I was happy with their service and product. Only drawback is they don't have alignment facility though they did free tyre balancing and gave me a tissue box free.

Will post my experience with new tyres soon, will get couple of new tyres for rear in next few weeks.

Current Odo reading above 35K

Hehe that's why I said probable wear and tear as I guess even you were not sure as there was nothing noticeable visibly. I am going to get my car's wheel alignment and balancing done again, had got it done just 3k kms back only. Felt it had lost its composure a little on my last highway drive, that's why planning to get it re-checked.

Wow those tyres do look absolutely worn out. How are the other two tyres doing? How much life do you think they have? Congrats on the new set of shoes for your ride. Do let us know if there is any difference in ride with these Yokohama's as compared to the stock Apollo's.

well, that tyres were like the condition of roads in India. Rough & not at all smooth.
Congrats on the new tyres.
What about the other 2 years? Still good?

Yes they are completely worn out, with couple of cracks on them they are extremely dangerous to drive with. Rear tyres condition are bit better and can cover 5K more but I made my mind to change them too in next couple of weeks.

Compared to Apollo's I find them much better also In Yoko's noise level is a notch lesser than Acelere, rough surface/potholes handling are also much better with A-drive. I read online lots of users reporting noise issues with A-drive but I have yet to notice the same, may be I still have to drive a silent tyre fitted car. Will comment more about it's performance after a road trip.

Thanks for congratulation, other two tyres are bit better and can cover 5K more but I made my mind to change them too in next couple of weeks.

I think they could have done a little more, anyways congrats for new tires buddy. Noise is less because they are A drives they are silent than S drive IMHO.

Thanks buddy, I was expecting above 40K mileage from the Apollo's but may be due to my frequent highway trips they gave up little early.

The bad roads in India are the reason for early tire balding.

Even though people suggest 40k as optimum time to replace them, see what happened here. [surprise]

Polo updates

Subsequent to front tyre change few weeks back, today got rear tyre change also, paid 8K for couple of Yoko's (185-70-R14) to B.K. tyres Lajpat Nagar. This time i kept the old tyres with me, will sell them directly to petrol pump guys or will keep them in my store for emergency usage. They did the balancing for free, will go for wheel alignment in the evening.

Re: Ownership Review: Polo 1.2 TDI Comfortline (Diesel)

Great pics sir of your Polo in Murthal. I just love that Sukhdev Dhaba. Been quite long since I had a meal there. Last I went there was on my way back from Delhi to Chandigarh last year with a couple of my college friends from Bombay. They were stunned by seeing the sheer size of the paratha and the white butter flowing on top of it. But till date they keep reminding me of how yumm it was and they keep asking me on the phone as to when am I taking them there again[;)].

By the way, Have you tinted the rear windscreen or is it just the effect in the picture?

Yep Sukhdev dhaba is great but there is so much rush over here which I don't like.

Yep rear windscreen is tinted with black water curtains to minimize the glare in night.

Polo Updates

Explorer-1 refused to start today morning, Last night I stayed at one of my relatives place and It's quite embarrassing situation for me. I called VW RSA (Road Side Assistant) in early morning and their mechanic visited the site and told me that fuel pump is not working they will now tow away the vehicle to VW Delhi West. Will update more on this issue.

Till now I am happy with VW RSA response and their constant followup but I had not expected such kind of problem in this new vehicle, thank god I am not traveling and my mobile is working :)

Ohh that's bad. I have heard fuel pump issue with other polo owners as well. I hope you get the car back soon.

By the way, how are your Yoko tyres doing? How do you find their handling, grip and ride quality? I heard that Yokos have soft compound which may not withstand the our desi roads. Do you feel so?

Thanks, I also hope so. The misfire incident which I reported couple of months back is the early sign of fuel pump issue which VW Delhi West failed to detect.

I am currently very happy with them, ride comfort is little less compared to stock Apollo but A drive are great in terms of handling specially in wet conditions. Yoko A drive is known for it's life and great for highway rides, also same is not of soft compound as per my knowledge considering the high life.

Yoko India do have Soft compound range too check here in maximum comfort zone Yokohama
