Re: Ownership Review: Polo 1.2 TDI Comfortline (Diesel)

ToughGuy your Polo is looking absolutely spotless after the cleaning. Both inside and outside. Nice job. I see even you have the same carpet floor mats as i do. Mine are getting horribly dirty by every passing day.[anger] How do you manage to keep them so clean? how frequent do you get it washed?

Hey Sarith J . Well even i have a Polo Tdi April 2012 make. I have scrapped the under-belly of my Polo just twice or thrice that to on a single trip of around 1600kms with 5 on board and with loaded with luggage and that too scrapped because i was driving literally on the most horrid roads with no tar on them. Got the under-belly inspected after coming back home and fortunately no damages had happened. Plus i am a little fortunate that i drive in Chandigarh as we don't have any speed-brakers or uneven potholes in the city roads.
But since you suggested that there are procedures to increase the ground clearance, can you please throw some light on that as i am completely unaware of it.

@GM88: Below are procedures i just found from the internet. As i said earlier i am not sure if VW will do this or even approve of it.I am just hoping there is someway to save my vehicle from the damage.

Spacers under the coil spring or longer coil springs

The spacer is a rubber pad about an inch thick which sits under the coil springs. One way to increase the ground clearance of your car is to use spacers under the coil spring. This will affect the overall handling and driving as the angle of the lower arms and links will change, and ride will become stiffer. The price of these spacers will vary from car to car but these aren’t very expensive.

Bigger tyres

The easiest way to get better ground clearance is to get a bigger set of tyres.

Re-cambering the springs

Re-cambering is essentially bending the leaf spring to a more acute angle to raise the ground clearance.

Adding extra leaf in leaf spring blade

This again is a way to improve the ground clearance of your car

Spring over axle setup

This is a major modification to increase ground clearance. Here the leaf-spring pack, instead of sitting under the axle, is modified to be placed over the axle, increasing ground clearance by quite a bit. But this modification puts pressure on the steering components and drive shafts.

Re: Ownership Review: Polo 1.2 TDI Comfortline (Diesel)

I am thinking for permanent removal of mid passenger seat belt which is of no use for me.

In this scenario i suspect that playing with GC will be of any help, i am wondering how deep were those digged roads in your area since i drove on one of the worst patch inside Ghaziabad near Hapur road where flyover construction work is undergoing and believe me in those narrow lanes roads were quite uneven and full of potholes which can swallow entire car but my Polo survived that somehow though with minor scratches on front bumper.
@ToughGuy: Well thats an inspiration :-). I have not damaged the outer body so far but the slightest scrapping sound worries me! But you should see that state of the roads in the colony i stay, after the road was dug the mud+ sand gave away leaving the manholes exposed at the centre of the road. I always try to land my wheel on the projected part of the road so that the cntre of the car doesnt sit on the projected part of the road. But there are areas where it is not possible.Added to that the School bus and contruction vehicles keeps changing the structure of the road everyday!! it s best that i upload a picture of the road :-). i am sure i will have sympathisers ;-)

Thanks for explaining all this. I am totally an amateur when it comes to all these technical stuff. Bigger tyres seem to be the most easiest thing to do to increase the GC. but that will void the suspension warranty. Best would be to talk to some VW professional itself and asking them for a possible way out.

+1 to GM88 I also suggest you to consult your nearest service centre before performing any mods of this nature since this may void warranty of your car and compromise the safety if carried out from outside and if possible do post the pics of digged area.

Re: Ownership Review: Polo 1.2 TDI Comfortline (Diesel)

Yesterday my car met with an accident near Sarojini nagar police station that fellow in a santro was jumped in front of me even after giving him the dipper i was with the flow of the traffic and coming from ring road. His car got the hit in front left side wheel which left his car near motionless, this teenage called the pcr immediately and in last we settled the matter without paying anything to each other. This incident consumed my two hours because of his rigid demand of repair payment for his car which i outrightly denied because mistake was not mine.

I gave my car to workshop today for the repair work at World class automobiles motinagar in the morning and left Delhi for 10days trip to my native place.

Oh, that really sad. But I would say you are lucky that police did not ask money for not taking any further action or for just settling the case.
Hope your car was not damaged much.

Lets forget everything and enjoy your vacations[cheers]

Thats not nice to know. You have been very lucky to settle the matter with police without a penny. If I am not wrong, this would be your fourth claim before completing one year with your polo.

Thanks for your concerns guys, police is not a concern at least in Delhi got good connections since my father is in politics too. Since i have to catch a train next day to attend a family wedding i settle the matter their else i will teach that guy a lesson who is at fault for which police also agreed.

Damage was limited to a small crack in my front bumper which need replacement, i am also not able to open the bonnet which need slight adjustments as per the service advisor. I must appreciate the positive response of World class automobiles Motinagar which took my car at 0900 hrs even their workshop timing opens from 0930hrs, i requested them to accomodate my car early due to my morning train.

Yes this is my fourth claim and with my ICICI insurance i can claim unlimited 0 dep claims as told by my advisor this time, he also confirmed that this facility is available with this provider only.

So polo was least damaged as usual compared to Santro?
Yes, will soon post the pic of the damages. Santro got heavily damaged its front left wheel got twisted and side body dented badly due to the impact.

Another accident?? Crazy Delhi traffic is all i can say. No wonder whenever i am in Delhi , i see almost invariable each and every car having some scratches or dents here & there. Must be a real pain maintaining a car there with such maniacs driving around. Good to know nothing major happened. So you'll be collecting your Polo after 10 days now? Will it be lying at the service center all this time?

Yep another accident, yes it is hard to keep your car scratch proof in the highest density city traffic of India. It is up to me I can get my car home delivered at my relatives place or else can collect my car after ten days without any extra charges as discussed with my service advisor.

Alright. Do post some pics after you get your car back.
And talking about Delhi traffic, one of my cousin recently bought a XUV500 and was scheduled to drive to Delhi from Chandigarh for some work. He took his 3years old Swift Vdi rather than the new car and his explanation was i'll take it anywhere but Delhi for the time being as i don't want to get scratches on my new car.[:)]
