Hi Proud Polo users :-),

i have a few queries about by POLO TDI comfortline.Mine is a 2012 model , flash red polo bought at Chennai.I started noticing a faint smell like that of some gas,coming from the inside of the car. This doesnt happen quiet often, but very rarely. The joke is stink and chennai are almost synomymous(no offense meant but plain truth [;)]) and so every time i get this smell somehow i manage to link it to some heap of waste anywhere near or a waste carrying truck in front of me, or the sewgae system !! But i think i have done enough and reallly wondering if this cud be the AC gas. Does the AC use Freon or whatever, but does the AC gas have a smell.Have anybody come across such a problem with your Polos, please let me know,

Also what exactly is
1. VAS enabling in the Car.

2.My car is taking hits on its underside as the colony where i stay now has a lot of potholes and humps(thanks to Chennai's corporation dept).I could see a shield underneath and would like to know if there are any critical components on the under side of the car close to this protective sheet which could be damaged due to the hit it takes,i just wanted to know if i should take extra care while this happens again.

3.Does the Comfortline have the provision to let you know about the outside temperature.

Firstly, congrats on your polo. [:D]
Regarding the smell, I recommend you to visit the nearest service station and complain to them about it soon!

1. VAS enabling is enabling different features in the car with the help of software. The features include Speed sensing auto lock at 10 kmph, auto unlock on ignition key removal, Petrol tank lock on 5 kmph, Audible beep on locking/unlocking etc.

2. Even my car is taking hits underneath. Hasn't faced any problems now. I enquired about the same to the dealer and what they said was the protective hard plastic sheet underneath protects all the important parts from getting hit or damaged.

3. As far as I know, its a no. Its available only in Highline version!

I belive "jihu123" has cleared all the doubt for you

and i have an update, mine is POLO TDI comfortline ( 2012) and it has outside temperature display , u can check with dealer or in mannual how to enable that

I have heard that people are having issues with the wheel getting locked up (prolonged hand brake use). Do you have any idea if the 2012 models have the same issue?! Would appreceate your reply in this regard.[cheers]

The wheels get locked up or hand brakes get jammed when you park the vehicle with full hand brakes on after rains or washing the car.
Just as a precautionary measure, whenever you wash your car, let it dry with moderately lifted handbrakes and after you are sure that there is no water near wheels, you can park it with full hand brakes. I have taken this care, and never faced the issue of hand brake locking.

Well, I haven't faced it so far. Hand brake getting locked up for prolonged use is quite normal in all cars as per my knowledge. It is recommended to put in gear when you park the car for many weeks/months.

I didn't know that. I always used to pull the hand brake after rains and washing the car! [confused]

I have gathered this info from various other places over internet. So, its good to be conscious during rains and washes to avoid unnecessary trouble.

I guess the outside temp isn't present in CL model, but all functionalities of MFD now come in the new polo CL models too.

Hey Sarithj. Congrats on your Polo first. Well even I had asked my SE about the same when I got my Polo 5months back. He said as per their info no such details have been given by VW as their cars do some pre-run before getting out of the factory. But still its advisable to maintain Revvs below 2500Rpm for the first 1500kms for prolonging the life of the engine. Even on highways you could cruise at 100kmph in 5th gear as the rev is at about 2500rpm at that speed in 5th gear. Don't revv it hard in the first and second gear initially and upshift as soon as you reach the 1500-2k rpm mark.

Buddy, what you are talking of is commonly known as run-in period for a vehicle. Thought there are no established rules or guidelines about the speed/rpm to be followed during run-in period but I'd say one is safe to keep the rpm under 1800-2000 for the first 1000 or so kms. Also, during this period strictly avoid sudden accelerations and sudden brakings. Also, keep varying your speeds during this period so that the ECU learns it.

Though the need of run-in period is quite debatable as we are told that most modern cars see the sunlight only after their run-in, but, we still prefer to run them in ourselves. [:D]

Thanks Dude. Thanks also for the quick reply. Let me jus ask one more thing. I have the stock steel wheels on my Comfortline and i am planning to get the alloy wheels after discussing with my dealer/service center to see if there would be any warranty issues if change to after market alloys.

Before that I would like to know if i would have to change the tyre and tubes too if i change the wheels to alloy.AFAIK the Polo Comfortline has a 15" steel wheel. So if i go for a 15" alloy would i need to change the tyres and tubes?

I guess you would be having tubeless tyres so no change of tubes is in picture. And if you are alloys keeping the size same then the stock tyres can be used.

Please have a look at ownership review by fellow member GM88, he had added alloys to his polo. Also note that comfortline has 14 inch wheels, so please check the thread.

This is the design am looking for. Saw this one on the cars in Polo cup, whats your take on this? I mean these alloys + stock tyres (15")

That's a nice set of alloys, similar to one I am looking for in times to come.
BUT, going for a 15" alloys on 14" wheels is sure to get a hit on warranty, at least the dealers would say 'Sir, warranty void' before touching your car. Call your dealer/workshop before going for alloys.
