Cmon man, what is this BIG DEAL about toyota?

Agreed, it is the world's largest manufacturer & all that, but that does not make them the best automotive manufacturer in the world!

Personally, I feel they make reliable, but flimsy & pricey cars. I dont think their cars are value-for-money, including innova & altis.

ETIOS is a waste of money. This is my second car and I feel that I should have invested this money in some property instead of wasting my money in Toyota Badge which is not worthy.
Munish, please refrain from passing such judgement just because you are discontent with the product. I am a proud owner of ETIOS and have no such issues (atleast presently [;)]) as you are facing. It would be great if you try a different workshop and try to get your issues sorted out. I guess you can understand that passing such comments hurts other owners. [cry]

If you conduct a poll for the ETIOS owners, I think you will get convinced with me that actually what I said is correct, It is worth to invest your hard earned money in some property rather than investing on Toyota ETIOS if this is your second car. As it lacks looks, style, comfort, luxury. It is a plain blank car which makes lot of noise and vibrations. This is from the personal experience. It is better to hear the harsh words before buying rather than admitting after the purchase.
It is a sedan for the person who is buying Sedan for the first time and has not experienced the meaning of Luxury, comfort, style, mileage, satisfaction.
I have the right to express my opinion as you do.
I am sure it will not hurt you as these comments are for Toyota ETIOS and not ETIOS. As mentioned by you earlier that you have purchased ETIOS and not Toyota ETIOS.
I hope that your vehicle performs better than mine.
If my problems are not solved by Toyota I will keep on continuing like this and please do not try to stop me. I am a wounded soldier.

A car running well as Taxi means that car is of good comfort, cheap maintenance cost and fuel efficient. That's what taxi guys prefer and people who call a taxi will always give first preference to Toyota vehicles for it's great comfort. eg: Innova,Qualis or even Altis [glasses]

But how can you call Toyota a Taxi company.
Toyota is a premium brand and i think the only brand that common people book cars for it's reliability.
Thanks for admitting that Toyota is a taxi company.[thumbsup]
Taxi's are of cheap maintenance cost.As agreed and mentioned in your example also Innova, Altis and Qualis are taxi cars as they are. Where is ETIOS?[surprise]
You also could not mention ETIOS with the great and good products like Innova, Altis,Qualis. Well this is a wise choice otherwise the stable becomes weak with the addition of ETIOS.[thumbsup][thumbsup]
Toyota is a Taxi brand worldwide and Lexus has not been associated with Toyota because it is a luxury brand with good image.
I also appreciate Toyota but not Toyota ETIOS.[drive]

Hi,

I own a Toyota Etios V since March 2011, and my experience has been quite ok till now. According to me,

+ves

1. Clean looks - unlike the plump looks of Dzire and Manza. Manza specially gives feeling of a HUGE car making it difficult to park and maneouvre
2. Huge boot
3. Huge interior space
4. Many bottle holders
5. Chilled and huge glovebox
6. Safety features like ABS, EBD, Airbags in a 7 lac rupee car
7. Very good overall engine and gearbox performance

-ves

1. Poor fuel economy - I've driven this for 1000 km and my average is close to 9 kmpl in the city with AC On most of the times. This is almost half of the 17.5 kmpl and a HUGE dampener.

2. Rattling - There is a minor rattling sound from the passenger airbag unit and while it may be quick to fix, I didn't expect it from Toyota

3. Rear seat cushion softening - the rear seat cushion has already started becoming soft and doesn't have the firmness which impacts lower thigh support

4. Rear doors very light - compared to front doors, rear doors feel very light and less durable

5. Pickup from standstill - In first gear, when moving from standstill, the car doesn't move when I release clutch and requires fair amount of accelerator push. Its especially an issue on slopes where we have to push the accelerator hard to avoid vehicle from going backwards.

6. Paint chipping - I found that paint coating is very thin and has already chipped in some door edges.

7. Front speakers vibration - I think front speakers are very close to the plastic mould of the doors hence causes them to vibrate when we play music

8. Noise insulation - Toyota has provided lot of noise insulation in their Diesel model but none in the petrol, hence cabin is not as quiet as in other cars

I'm going to take up the negative points with Toyota during the service and hope most of it gets rectified

+1 to that. I too own a G model and find it very satisfactory for it's price.

+1 to that.

Had come across this thread a few days ago and was following it keenly. Just joined the forum to share my experience.
I own an Etios G and it's clocked 4000+ kms (mostly highway miles). It returns a mileage of ~15 on the highway with AC which I am OK with.

The main concern I faced initially was the high NVH levels due to poor in-cabin insulation. As my dealer had mentioned the NVH levels reduced drastically after 2000 kms. I'm satisfied about it now.

Back in the US I own a sequoia+civic and Toyotas are the comparitively the quietest imports on road. The etios is not as quite as the civic, but I have no complaints now.

Welcome Recluse

My dealer has given me Funny reasoning for the poor design of ETIOS. A dealer comes in touch with all the customers but he will never share any bad experiences of any customer with other customer as it will hamper his sale.
Dealers words are like - they will not remove the pain but will give you power to face the pain.
AAL IZZ WELL.[clap]

+1 on that.
When I took a TD of Etios for the first time, I asked the dealer specifically about the high NVH levels (like a diesel vehicle). Told him straight that it's due to poor insulation that the noise seeps into the cabin.
He responded saying that Toyota had done it intentionally to give it a "sporty" feel [:)] . Chucked that dealer and bought from another one who knew a little more than this (not that it made a difference, since it was the same product).

But atleast what my dealer promised seems to have come true. He was begging me to complete the run-in period (1k - 2k kms) and get back to him if I still have the NVH issues.

To reduce NVH, you can try a few things.
1. A rubberized underbody coating from 3M which helps in sound reduction.
2. Good quality, noise absorbing floor mats.

I won't say that it's a perfect product (in fact, no car is one). But among the options in that segment this seems to be the best bet. Manza is a sofa-on-wheels, but grossly underpowered petrol engine (plus the ASS - about which I've heard all the famous stories). Dzire is a no-no when it comes to the rear legroom.

Why Toyota is not providing this? Why someone will spend money on this after spend much money already to buy a car ?If other compititors can provide this at same cost then why Toyota can not?

My Liva has done 2000 km and NVH levels are just like any other petrol car and the only noise is from the stone-hittings under the wheel arch on rough roads. I think 3M under body coating can solve this problem which costs only Rs.1200 at Nippon Toyota. I am happy with my car and hoping to get a better mileage after some more run-in to the engine. Now i am getting 12 kmpl on city conditions with 100% AC.

Sorry to hear about such incident from a car manufactures like Toyota. I still remember the time when Etios was launched and me with couple of my friends went to check out the car in the Topsel Toyota in Kolkata. It was Sunday evening approximately 6 pm and we had our serious doubt wether the showroom would remain open as it was raining pretty heavily but once we reached the showroom we all were shocked. Approximately 50 people were surrounding ETIOS and we had to wait for atleast half and hour just to get out self in the rear seat to check out the space. I personally never liked ETIOS but then I don't like the shape of DZIRE and look at the car today, it is doing wonders in Indian market even today. I think Toyota has lots its premium batch in trying to hard without looking at the basics. One more thing when I went to check out the car in the showroom ETIOS was standing beside CAMREY and ETIOS looked like an adopted child of Toyota. :stupid:
