Report – Mahindra Scorpio beats Duster, EcoSport to become best selling SUV

Mahinda has managed to sell over 50,900 units of the Mahindra Scorpio in India during the recently concluded fiscal year, making it the best-selling SUV once more.

A report on the Economic Times says that the Scorpio’s main rivals Renault Duster and Ford EcoSport finished at 46,700 units and 45,000 units respectively. Mahindra also posted the highest sales for the month of March (5,605 units) led by festivals in Maharashtra and North India, and increased buying from political parties ahead of the polls.

The Renault Duster took the throne of India’s best selling SUV in the full calender year of 2013 by selling over 51,400 units against 49,500 units by the Scorpio.

Mahindra are testing a facelift for the Scorpio which would launch in mid-2014 with refreshed looks, new interiors and more features which can help create more excitement around the brand, thereby holding on to the leadership.

Similarly, Renault India are also believed to be working on a facelift for the Duster which should come late this year or early next year, with plans to thwart the Scorpio’s success.

The Scorpio’s second rival Ford EcoSport has heavy demand in India, and a ramp up in production to meet this demand quicker and reopen bookings is not expected for another few months.

2014 Mahindra Scorpio Facelift Spotted Testing With Dummy Passengers

Spotting a Scorpio facelift on test is just a usual day on the web, with so many spy shots surfacing on the net, Mahindra seems to be in no mood to reveal the 2014 Scorpio anytime soon. The company is aggressively testing the 2014 Scorpio facelift ahead of its launch this year, and we spotted the test mule recently at the Mumbai-Pune expressway. Codenamed S-594, the camouflaged SUV was carrying dummies on the rear seats to replicate the weight of passengers. The use of dummies represents as to how the vehicle will handle with the additional weight at the rear, especially at high speeds.
The Scorpio has not really been known for being a good handler, but Mahindra might want to improve on this aspect. A suspension upgrade will help the SUV offer better ride quality at the rear, which is the last place you should choose to be in the SUV. This being probably the last comprehensive facelift on the current generation Scorpio, the SUV will get a host of changes including a detailed update to the exteriors and the interiors.
The front fascia takes inspiration from the XUV500, while the interiors will lose the utilitarian feel and will sport new gadgetry and better levels of fit and finish. The dashboard and the steering wheel are heavily inspired from the XUV500 as well. The Scorpio will retain the current seating layout, and expect new upholstery to be offered with fabric and leather options. You will also get the start-stop system, steering mounted controls, Bluetooth with USB and aux-in connectivity offered as standard on the SUV.
The SUV segment saw a steep rise this fiscal with competitors like the Renault Duster and Ford EcoSport registering record sales. In spite of tough competition, the Scorpio has emerged with the highest volume sales in the last fiscal. The company sold over 50,900 units of the SUV compared to the Duster’s 46,700 units and EcoSport’s 45,000 units during the 2014 financial year. Mahindra’s wide network of sales and service and the strong acceptability of the brand in rural areas has helped the company retain the numero uno position against new entrants in the segment.
The 2014 Mahindra Scorpio will get projector headlamps, daytime running lights as well as LED tail lights. Expect the company to hike the prices of the SUV by a significant margin when launched. The 2014 Scorpio will pack in the same 2.2-litre, 4-cylinder, mHawk diesel engine producing 120 BHP of power and 290 Nm of torque. The engine is mated to a 5-speed manual and a 6-speed automatic gearbox. The update will help keep the Scorpio fresh for another two years, till the next generation model breaks cover in 2016.

Scorpio Price Details not available.
New Scorpio is on the way [clap]or govt added some more Tax on SUV's again?[anger]
Not just Scorpio specific and doesn't seem to have anything to do with the facelift.
This could be the reason !
"We are actively contemplating increasing the prices of our vehicles in April due to increase in input and operational costs," Mahindra & Mahindra Chief Executive (Automotive Division) Pravin Shah told PTI.

Latest on the facelifted Scorpio , this time another test mule of the revamped vehicle in Maharashtra.

For the very first time, reveal the front logo, the vehicle gets redesigned alloy wheels and the wiper at the rear makes could be the top-end variant of the Scorpio.
The spy photographers confirmed that the interiors have been tweaked and the most evident change is the steering wheel borrowed from the XUV 500. The instrument panel gets silver accents and a small rectangular digital screen in between.
Expect Mahindra to improve the quality of the materials used in the cabin and pack the car with a whole load of new features. The fact that the car was doing speeds in excess of 120kmph quite easily on the highway makes us postulate that this updated vehicle is not just limited to a cosmetic upgrade. The company might have retuned the 120bhp 2.2-litre mHawk turbo diesel mill that currently powers the present Scorpio. The engine noise has been reduced and the stability while making manoeuvres too seems to have improved.
Expect Mahindra to launch the revised Scorpio within a couple of months.

2014 Mahindra Scorpio Facelift spied on test

Again new pics of production ready model.

Why Mahindra testing scorpio refreshed again & again?
Already seen what they did with XUV500, by testing test mule for 4-5 years & XUV500 came with hell like issues.

Common Mahindra, launch the model ASAP

Exactly if its just a cosmetic facelift than why they are testing for this long. In mechanical Changing may be W105 will get new Catalytic Converter.

Things i really want for this SUV is independent AC Blowers till 3rd Row Roof, even TATA Sumo Gold has these Roof AC.

Any kind of DLR's are most welcome [clap].

Spied pic of W105 here seems base model without Ski Rack. But Side cladding is there may be EX will have Side Cladding. Side foot step looks not integrated type its just a standard. No Spoiler either.

Mahindra Scorpio facelift to get upmarket interiors

0_468_700_http___i_haymarket_net_au_ExtraImages_20140430061405_scorpint2.jpg

Updated Mahindra Scorpio SUV to get new-look interiors along with re-styled exteriors and a slight bump in price.

Huge effort appears to have been made in moving away from the basic, utilitarian interior of the old Scorpio to a more upmarket one. Although the rather upright dashboard and tall gearlever betray its decade-old origins, the detailing is all-new and the overall colour scheme is now a restrained beige and black, with some light brown trim as well. Gone are the oval AC vents, replaced by smart-looking, chrome-lined rectangular units on a piano-black base. A prominent “Scorpio” badge now sits below the left AC vent, and there are twin gloveboxes in place of the tough grab handle previously placed ahead of the front passenger.
A big screen takes centre-stage on the centre console and it’s expected to handle all infotainment duties, possibly including satellite navigation and the display for a rear-view camera. The AC knobs are also all-new and look quite similar to the ones from the XUV500; the top variants may also get automatic climate control.
The new centre console looks less cluttered and much better integrated with the dashboard. A big change is that the power-window switches have now moved to the doors from the dash (which has also resulted in the grab handle being removed from the driver’s side door). The gear knob is also new and looks more premium than the square-shaped one from before. Mahindra has also added a 12v socket just beside the gear knob in the new Scorpio.

Re: Mahindra Begins Development of Next Generation Scorpio (W105)

The steering wheel looks like a direct lift from the XUV500 and the color of the steering wheel is not the same with the rest of the panel. Surely a better looking dash than the current generation car which used to put off a lot of urban buyers. This would certainly help in attracting that set of audience and further increasing sales for the current No.1 SUV in our market. Hope Mahindra is working on improving the ride quality as well in this refreshed Scorpio.
