Re: Maruti 800 Replacement To Be Known as ‘Alto 800’ (Pics Pg.9)

There's no power steering in any of the versions, the engine is same 800 cc with 47ps and 5 speed gearbox(alto 800 engine).
Same engine ? So why did they design a new one, present alto is much better with more features ![confused]

I dont think they will replace alto. Coz alto is already doing good. They will replace m800 with it.
And may be they can get new name for this creature ;)

i had seen these pics way earlier this year, and started loving my timeless looking M800 way more. I dont seem to understand what happened to designers? What happened to the wedgy, long, low slung cars? I still love the way 800 looks in profile. Lowwwww.
All cars in India,or even the world over is same. Look at hyundai, the eon, i10, then the A-star, why cant designers make something like the polo? or even the k10?

Im holding u for a long time dear 800 [:)]

I absolutely agree with you, racerdabba! I have never been a fan of tall body designed cars. Always feel so insecure inside the tall body cars, especially at high speeds and corners!

Tall boys are introduced to increase comfort and limit the speeds and it is good to drive safe with a fear !!

These are meant to be driven in city, & offer easy ingress-egress with good visibility, & seating position for Indian body type for tall boy hatches are more comfy than likes of alto. BTW, these type of cars are never meant to be taken for a spin. Drive below 100 & its safe.

The design of this alto 800 is horrible. The current refreshed alto k series engine looks better. Infact, A star is better than this. Seems some nursery school kids drew the design.[lol]

Re: Maruti 800 Replacement To Be Known as ‘Alto 800’ (Pics Pg.9)

The largest passenger car maker Maruti Suzuki India (MSI) has reportedly stated that the launch of its new 800 cc small car will be delayed from its proposed schedule during Diwali this year due to the violence at Manesar plant. Maruti Suzuki India (MSI) Managing Director Shinzo Nakanishi was quoted as saying "Yes, we have to reschedule the launch of the 800 cc car because of the violence at Manesar plant."
It was mentioned that he, however, said if the company is able to recover quickly from the impact, the launch may take place as planned. The company had earlier said it will introduce a new 800cc car during Diwali this year that will be more fuel efficient, but also more expensive, than its existing best selling model Alto. The company was scheduled to start commercial production of the car at its Gurgaon facility from July or August.

According to reports, MSI has upgraded the existing engine and platform of the Alto instead of a complete overhaul in order to reduce development costs. The company has stopped selling its bread-and-butter model M800 in specific cities, where Bharat Stage IV emission norms are applicable as the car does not meet the stringent parameters. Although MSI is still selling its first model in the country in other places, it had categorically ruled out upgrading it. The M800 will be naturally phased out once emission norms are upgraded in rest of the country. Alto is MSI's best selling car so far. However, in recent times, the monthly sales have fallen to about 20,000 units, including Alto K10, from about 30,000 units earlier due to factors like high interest rates and rising petrol costs. Huge stock of petrol cars are lying at the dealers level now. In fact, MSI had in May stopped production of petrol models, like the Alto, M800, A-Star, Estilo and Omni for three days to prevent inventory pile up.

Better they back off with the plan.

[surprise], for what joy? Arrey, Then Eon is the best buy in the segment if they price this higher than the current Alto which has power steering.

[frustration], why should they bring this model when the current one does well in the market, completely out of mind.

If MS really wanted to take nano head on, they could have plonked the 660 cc engine they use in Japan into current alto 800 which is far better design. but alas. Be it a ugly frog or whatever, it's carrying MS badge and we are Indians, let it be launched, will sell like hotcakes, you can bet.

Re: Maruti 800 Replacement To Be Known as ‘Alto 800’ (Pics Pg.9)

Maruti’s all-new Alto 800 is now inching closer to launch.

The new Alto 800 will be based on the existing Alto platform and will be powered by the same 796cc three-cylinder motor (F8D) from the Alto, which has been modified to meet the latest emission norms. The new Alto 800 will slot in below the Alto, is expected to have all-new interiors, and will be a tad more spacious than before. The design is rather basic, with the nose getting high-mounted headlights, a slim, slot-like grille and a huge secondary air-inlet opening above and below the bumper. Maruti has provided a wider, U-shaped rear-windscreen for better visibility, and there is a wide tailgate for better accessibility to the cargo bay.

The new 800 is likely to share a lot of running gear with the current car. It will also have a basic but cost-effective MacPherson strut setup in front and a coil spring torsion beam axle at the rear. Expect better interior packaging to liberate a few vital centimetres. Crash protection should be better than the old car too, thanks to the Alto’s more up-to-date chassis.

Maruti is targeting a sub-Rs 2 lakh price for the new Maruti 800 to distance it from the Alto by at least Rs 40,000 and put it smack into Nano territory.

@Nice piece of information Visran,

I seriously feel with this launch one of the Alto will definitely going to die[cry]

I am really unable to guage that with whom this will compete with Nano, Eon, Alto K10[confused]
