Re: New Hyundai i20 Known as 'Elite i20'. Now Launched! (Details: Pg.7)

Global Press Release:
Hyundai Motor has today unveiled first images of the New Generation i20, ahead of its world debut at the 2014 Paris Motor Show.

With the launch of its latest model, Hyundai Motor is continuing its successful presence in Europe’s B-segment, highlighted by almost one million sales since 2002. The popularity of the original i20 has made it one of the company’s best-selling cars in the region. The key aims of the new model are to open Hyundai to an even wider audience; further develop perceptions of the brand; and confirm Hyundai’s position as a truly European automaker.

The New Generation i20 has been designed and developed in Europe, and three key attributes in particular underline how it meets the needs of European consumers: class-leading interior space, a host of high-technology and comfort-enhancing features, and distinctive, refined design.

Based on a new platform, the New Generation i20 features a 2570 mm wheelbase – 45 mm longer than its predecessor – providing European customers with one of the most spacious cabins in the segment. Efficient packaging has created a passenger compartment that can comfortably seat five adults. Combined front and rear legroom is best in class at 1892 mm. Trunk capacity is also segment-leading: 326 litres when the rear seats are upright.

Enhancing the comfort and the sense of space for driver and passengers is a unique-in-class panoramic sunroof. Able to both tilt and fully open, it fills the cabin with natural light and fresh air. Further features add to the refinement and convenience of the New Generation i20, including integrated rear-view camera and front LED lighting.

Interior refinement complements the sophisticated and distinctive exterior styling of the New Generation i20. Influenced by the brand’s ‘Fluidic Sculpture 2.0’ design philosophy, the car’s clear and simple overall architecture was penned at Hyundai Motor’s Design Centre Europe in Rüsselsheim, Germany.

Hyundai’s European design team has created a bold front aesthetic. The upright chrome-framed hexagonal grille has been lowered for design and engineering purposes. A thin, horizontal grille connects the front headlamp clusters, which include bi-function projection headlamps, LED daytime running lights and LED positioning lamps. A lower grille houses the front fog lamps, and emphasises the powerful stance of the car.

The 4035 mm long bodyshell incorporates a single feature-line running the length of the vehicle, sculptured undercuts of the body panels, and a waistline moulding at the base of the door.

At the rear, the New Generation i20 features a gloss-finished black C-pillar that gives the impression of a floating roofline. The lamp clusters wrap around the rear wing into the trunk lid and feature a ‘boomerang’-shaped LED design.

The public world premiere of the New Generation i20 will take place during Hyundai’s press conference at the 2014 Paris Motor Show in Hall 3, at 16:00 CET on Thursday 2 October.

Looks weird from front and some other angles. Grand i10 looks much more pleasant and proportionate.
Overall, this looks like just a bigger, enlarged Grand i10, even the interior shape and colors.

I think HYUNDAI ELITE i 20 ASTA and SPORTZ come with 199/R16 tyres not R15 .That is the same tyres you get in Verna CARS. So better comfort on potholed roads but slightly less milage.

Does hyundai any where mention of EBD along with ABS. I do not see this any where in the brochure.

Great Photos 350Z [clap]
Eagerly waiting for your test drive and review on the new Hyundai Elite i20.
Try to get some interior shots of the Era and the Magna Variants to showcase the manually regulated AC knobs.
Thanks

Few questions for the review:
1. Length is close to 4 mtrs but i do not see any significant gain in the legroom for back seat passangers. Can you confrim if this is the case?
2. Looks like under thigh support for all seats has been increased. Please confirm.
3. The white stript in headlamps looks good, but is it illuminated or serves like LED?
4. LED near fog lamp looks missing which is available in current i20. Please confirm.
5. ICE Head Unit looks out of date on dashboard and does not look that premium. (Even Zest has better HU). How does it function at least?
6. Any advantage having Sportz'O' trim between Sportz and Asta?

Not quite what I expected. The interiors look cheap (Great interiors are Hyundai territory ), and the engine is not much for the enthusiasts. I don't know how these guys can not make a sport version of models. Toyota made the Liva TRD Sportivo, VW made GT versions of Polo. If there was an i20 Sport (around 1.7 liters displacement) but no. Okay, the interiors are like the Santro [frustration] Hyundai was [sleep]ing while designing the i20, that's for sure. I like the rear, though. But no, I'm not gonna buy it. I wish for the older i20. But that's okay. It's a Hyundai till date.
EDIT: Okay, so I saw only one photo of the interiors, and wrote this biased on it. The interiors are great, but the engines are ordinary. :sorry: about my earlier rants. It's pretty good, and maintains the i20 standards. My only wish is that the seats should be higher. Sitting in the outgoing model is like sitting in a ditch (for me). Under-thigh support is bad. Hope the new car is better.

I quite like this Elite i20 and it is still a good looking hatch. I have used an i-gen i20 for some time and I did quite like it a lot and I see no reasons why I should not like this. Pricing is great.

Visited hyundai yesterday for Elite TD,but they did not offer as the TD vehicle did not have any registration number yet.
Impressed with
-R16tyres on the Sport(O) + variants.
-Very well laid cockpit.

Downside
-No DRLs on any variants now. Couldnt understand why would Hyundai do that.
