New Car Pre-Delivery Inspection – An Exhaustive Guide

I am going to take delivery of my new car this week.
In karnataka, we need to get the car registered before we can drive it. So the dealer says i need to complete the payment and get the invoicing done and he will get the registration done within next 2-3 days. Which seems fair to me.

After going through this PDI checklist, what i have summerized is, I need to make a PDI before making complete payment. So i have informed the dealer that once the vehicle arrives at the stockyard, i will do a PDI and make the payment.

Now i got a call from the dealer saying vehicle will arrive in the stockyard on 1st August and they will do invoice this month. I feel i should not accept this and i rejected him saying Why should i do the invoice even before seeing the vehicle.

So please help me here. I think the dealer is trying to meet his monthly goal by making invoice in this month itself. Any other catch here ?

If there is any specific discount or freebies that you have availed which is applicable on that particular month then the dealer would need to make the invoice in that month to get that applicable, also along the reason is their monthly target to achive.
But make sure that you do the PDI before the final payment and registeration of your car.
So other then these two reasons there is no other where the invoice should be made on earlier month from the dealer.

Thanks for the quick update. Ya there are discounts currently(Ertiga diesel) though i dont think discounts will change for august month because of low sales. But in any case dealers cant predict discount for next month.

So if he insists on invoice due to discounts(he did not mention it to me yet), I will take the VIN and other engine/chassis number etc. i will still tell him that i wont make payment until he gives me the PDI.

If it is just the invoice date, i believe i dont have anything to loose

If I am not wrong there is no need for full payment to be done for invoicing purposes. You would have made a booking by paying a amount and that would be proof enough of invoice. If deal insists you can make additional amount of invoice but unless you have car in front of you, you should not make the full payment.

I have gone for exchange of my old car through them. They basically want to complete the sale and partially transfer that money for the invoice. Remaining amount i will be giving only after i see the vehicle.(Though the sales guy is pushing saying if you make payment i can immediately send for RTO) So i think that is fine.

The reason he is saying for making invoice is 1. His monthly targets and 2. he is not sure if Maruti will have same/more/less offer for august month. [roll]

He is clearly taking you for a ride to make his sales. If post invoicing he can send for RTO than he needs to have Chasis, Engine No with him and that would be made available with Vehicle being available with him. If vehicle is available he should be able to allow a PDI check to you.

Hi,

The simple fact is, if you are at a booking stage, you have the option of cancelling your booking if the car is found to be undesirable (because of any reason whatsoever) at the time of PDI. You will only loose a marginal amount for booking cancellation. At any further stage, even if it is invoicing, you would have forfeited the right of cancellation of booking and hence your stakes are higher now. In simple words, you are at a greater financial obligation to take the particular car.

Now, if the discounts/freebies you are getting are so high that they are worth the risk, you can make an informed decision. But for my money, I wont risk not taking PDI for anything, simply because even a small scratch on a shining new beauty would ruin the fun for me !!

I am sure there would be some who disagree and I agree they may have a valid argument. This is just my take on this [:)]

Help needed ..

I sold my ritz ldi and booked xuv500 w6 .
when i booked the xuv,M n M reduced the GC to get excise duty benefits. But i were interested in 200mm GC So i requested the dealer to arrange me a old version w6 and he did arrange for me.
He has arranged a silver color w6, he would be getting it by saturday. So i may need suggestion to PDI points to get a genuine car.and clarifications to get from the dealer. As i may need to do PDI on sunday or monday.

Re: Help needed ..

Oh ! the GC reduced car gives benefit in taxes hence cheaper. And the GC is reduced with the help of engine guard .I have heard that it's removable .(I don't have proof ) so as to improve the GC back to 200 mm.
Within how many days he arranged a car with 200 mm GC after you refused 160 mm GC car ?

Urgently find out the manufacturing date of the car , so that we can know if the dealer has removed the engine guard and then selling it to you.

And if he is providing you a long back manufactued car then you need to see that you don't buy a car manufactued more than 6 months back as such cars need special PDI and servicing s and part replacements.

Absolutely :offtopic:

Will the removal of the engine guard not void warranty ?

@Anshuman8, it was posted on a thread started by fellow TAI n onlymanoj , which is now merged with this thread by mods.

BTW , one can say that the under engine guard fallen off during travel, probably while negotiating a standard Indian size speed breaker due to hopeless GC.
:stupid:

Need some information from people who might know this. I got to know that amongst the Mahindra vehicles if you happen to purchase the Thar or Bolero it is actually driven from the nearest plant which for example in case of Bangalore is Hubli/Dharwad. So when the vehicle is initially delivered to the owner it will actually have a odometer mileage of say something like around 400kms. How true is this? & is it true for all dealers or some dealers try to take you for a ride? & importantly is it acceptable? They say that the mahindra drivers will drive it carefully.

PDI points specific to XUV5OO

Hey Guys,

I have booked an XUV5OO, W8, FWD in Bangalore at Sireesh Motors Hosur Road, a few days back.
You can read another thread of mine, which explains the details on How & Why I finalized purchasing XUV - Car Buy: Wrong Way, Confused, Decided..!!!
Most probably, the car would have reached the stockyard by now and I would be called for a PDI tomorrow.

From the experience the existing XUV owners have, are there any specific PDI checks that I need to do on the XUV?
I know there was a flood of niggles among the initial lot of cars and now they have subsided considerably.
But would like to take comments from fellow XUV owners to make sure my purchase is niggle free and delivery process goes on smooth.

Please list down the checks that I may have to specifically do on the XUV as per your experience for me.

Thanks,
Arvind S.
