It means 18kmph (Kilometer Per Hour) is the average speed of the vehicle, if I am not wrong.
Okay, looks to be true.
How much mileage your instant fuel meter shows on City + Highway mix driving? Mine ranges from 13.3 - 13.9kmpl being a Diesel, on 750kms. It started at 10.5kmpl initially when I took the delivery and by driving sedately I managed to get it close to 13-14 mark. Isn't it little less than expected? [surprise]

Ya roncol, its kinda low. The lowest I have got till date is around 16.7 kmpl and highest is 18.22 kmpl. I think it will considerably increase for you provided its not in city.

Try this simple method of easing the throttle a little and dabbing it again to maintain the SAME cruising speed. In my Verna, many a times the indicator jumps from 11-13 kpl to 13-16 kpl, just by doing so! Similar activity on highway results in jump from 15-18 kpl to 18-22 kpl. I think the trip computer gets locked onto the acceleration related mileage, if the pressure on the pedal doesn't reduce after acceleration. If you are interested in knowing the mileage within a short period, you could do what many do on bike. The 'reserve-to-reserve mileage clock' by filling with Rs.500 - 1K worth of fuel. The "Fuel Pump" indicator on the dash is the reserve indicator on a car on a "level road". This is coarse but fair enough and helps correct one's driving style.

Yeah, I guess that is another option apart from Tank to Tank method. I just got a tank full yesterday, will be testing the mileage this time. Mileage has now jumped to 15.1kmpl, maintaining 80-90kmph and within 2000 rpm levels, with 1100 on ODO. Will share the updates. [:)]

Hey Ron,

congrats mate on your new ride.We got ours on 11th Sep,2013.I was too buisy to share the info and have updated in the official thread today,if you are following that.

Regarding FE, we have completed 780 kms with mostly city driving and the I would say mileage would be near about 15kmpl.It will surely improve as winters are setting in and AC's will be off!!

When are you planning to share the ownership report?

Vicky90@ hey friend, how is your ES doing? How many kms have you clocked man? Any trouble?

Hey Rahul, Yes I am following the official thread and saw your updates. Looks like we belong to the same army, as our dealer have been the same. [;)]
I am planning to start a thread after 1st service and a trip of 700-800kms. Currently the ODO stands close to 1300kms. I had trip planned for coming weekend, which has gone for a toss, as my cousin decided to get engaged this week itself. [frustration]
As far as Fuel economy is concerned, I have got a tank full at 1010kms, and will take a while for the next refill, before I share the real time mileage numbers. MID shows 15.3kmpl for now, with light footed driving.

Hey Rahul, hearty congratulations on acquiring your new beast :)

Mine is going well and good till date.
I will update it shortly.

RonCol, congrats for you too and the MID shows mileage which is lower than actual i.e. tank full method. So, probably it will be more than 15.3 kmpl.

Completed 5000 km with my sweet white little monster.
  • Awesome handler I must say
  • Very good pick up
  • Now my latest mileage was 18.59 kmpl by tankful method
  • 3 can sit easily at the rear seat as I said before.
  • Everyone loves its presence
  • Small rattle arises from driver side window at very low speeds on rough roads only. Looking forward to rectify it though its not regular.
  • AC is a chiller as we know and music system rocks
  • The way she glides on smooth roads is intoxicating. 100 kmph is a cake walk for her.

Totally love its presence in our family and hope the good days continue. ( Touch wood )

Re:Ecoboost Ecosport mileage: 7700 kms done

Guys,
I always check full tank to Full tank mileage. Normally matches the figures as shown in the Dashboard.
My recent trip in route from Bellary -Hiriyur - Bangalore (plain terrain with 2 onboard) Highways maintained speed within 100 kmph (doing constant 90) got 18.0 kmpl (330Kms) & thereafter dropped to 14.6 kmpl with 220 kms in Bangalore traffic.
At return got the same 18.1 kmpl

Maintaining the speeds @ 110 kmph will drop to 15 kmpl.

Correct somash, if we maintain upto 100 kmph constantly we will get very good mileage but after 100 kmph, even slight pushing will make the mileage scale to lower swiftly.

Thanks man!!

Yes,it looks like that our beasts belong to the same batallion!![:D]

FE close to 15 is good for a new engine. We are getting the same figure. It will slowly open up and become more efficient and smooth.

@Vicky90 and RonCol some questions I asked D.J.D:

1.) Is the AC switched on when you start your car? In ours, the AC switch comes in ON position when starting the car for the first time even if it was closed before shutting off the engine.

2.)We are planning to upgrade the headlamps as the throw seems weak for highway runs. Are you considering any such up-gradation? If yes, please let me know the make and wattage of the bulbs you are considering.I believe just migrating to better bulbs will not void warranty and will give good intensity.

I am yet to try the solution he provided. What's your take on these?

Yes it is decent for a new engine. I travel 2-3times a week from Delhi to Gurgaon on my way to work, and every 30kms of light footed driving, I end up adding 0.1kmpl to fuel economy, so in a round trip it goes up by 0.2kmpl, like 15.4 to 15.6kmpl :stupid:
To be honest when I was handed over it was showing 9.6kmpl in MID, and today it is 15.6kmpl, with 1400kms on ODO.
To answer your queries:
1. Yes it is always ON. Only way to switch it OFF is, press the OFF button when your journey ends before you turn off the engine. Next time you turn ON the engine, AC will stay OFF.
2. Mine is all City driving till now, and I find the headlamps 'Adequate' with decent throw. With so many owners talking about it, I wish to test them on a Highway drive, before I go for a change. If you do not want to void the warranty, you can opt for - Philips extreme vision, Osram night breaker plus, Hella power light.

Thanks a lot buddy.
Don't you feel the suspension is too stiff. If by chance a pothole goes unnoticed, it sends a hard vibration inside the cabin and on the steering. [surprise]

Rahul, We have to bring the AC to off condition before or after switching off the car.
Else it will be in on condition as it is all a manual switching option.

And yes, the headlight alternative is one I am seriously looking at.
I heard philips extreme is good but have not seen it in person.

Ron, yes very exactly the suspension is stiff compared to other hatches and it does send very harsh thuds in if we dont forsee the pothole.

@all am back from tanjore after a function and it was a torture test for my beast.
Pushed it to extreme speeds and roads were bad for some 40 kms of the whole 650 km trip.

Man! Ecosport just rocks in the way it glides over on smooth surfaces and could see a lot of other cars going out of breath while coming along.
The beauty is that there was no rattling except thuds on bad patches and stability was super cool. But dint get heart to push her over potholes so slowed her accordingly.
As a result of pusing, mileage I got for the trip was around 13.8 kmpl [;)] but the fun was worth million bucks [glasses] and now that I am back from the trip, the original sweet and gentle pedalling has again started.

Guys, Already changed from OEM bulbs to Philips Extremevision. They are far better. But I heard ppl say that HELLA 60/55W are better than Extreme Vision. Thinking of trying that too but yet to source one.
I think we cant get a good throw from the factory fitted headlight due to its shape.

Yes indeed, I have used Extremevision in my Ecosport for last 7000kms so far but now I am going for philips HID's 4200k and the DRL strip in my headlights. Not going for any projectors as the phipis HID's didnt fit well in the Chinese projectors. The mod job is in process and should be ready by tonight and once done the headlights will be installed back in the Ecosport tomorrow morning.

If you really need more light and have more Highway usage, then HID's are the best solution as it provides atleast 3 times more light than our conventional halogen's and consume nearly around 50% less power from the battery [clap]

Believe me, the DRL strip looks awesome! Will update with pics tomorrow
