Hi jetu
Omni holds nostalgic moments for me as it was the first new car in our house (prior to that we had 2nd hand fiats). I learnt driving in the Omni. In fact the one we has was purchased way back in 1985 when Maruti was launched and had a Suzuki badging. It is from the first lot with only the tyres and Exide battery made in India. The purchase price was 64000. It was given to my father by his employers and during his retirement we got it for a wdv of 20000. We used it from 1985 to 1993 and sold it at 85000. Of course we got it repainted once, changed tyres and fitted a National aircon with twin condensors during the course of our use. We ran it for close to 100000 km before selling it. Unfortunately I do not have any ready pictures for posting. I will definitely post some if I get it.

Best wishes for a good restoration and do add pictures as work progresses and the final result.

Buddy your car is excellently maintained seemed to be,i dont see any rust inside,Not much work to do with rust and body.please check the underbody, after your Restoration get your underbody anti rust coated with 3M,will reduce your road noise.
HI Patkar,

I have got Minda head light assembly of type 3 without motor. Is your headlights with motor or without motor? Because my mechanic said if it's with motor it's of no use as it is an old one and also it costs double the amount.

Hi Srid68,

Thanks for sharing your experience with Omni, Even we've had some great moments with our Omni, the MPV which has served us as a family car. I don't like to part with it under any situation. So took up this project to restore it to good condition with some modifications to make it look new. Keep sharing [:)]

Sorry i missed your thread,I too got minda headlight without motor for headlight alignment,Light throw is adjusted using screws on the headlight assembly.

But i advise to go with motor since i suffered with headlight alignment, since dipper was very short, and upper was not so long. All this never bothered me while night driving. My car is driven 26000kms after upgrade.
If wiring is getting complicated go with manual one otherwise.

another thing Upgrade your speedometer to radium one, speed and gauges are easily visible, get it done at some meterwala,i found that in kurla cst.

Hi, I have got the Minda headlamps without motor, how much did the dash board cost you? and did you also change the steering wheel to type 3? If yes, is it only the wheel or complete type 3 steering assembly?

Hi all,

The Omni is in tinkering stage, putty is also going on, the tinker seems to be doing a decent job, but waiting for the final outcome eagerly.

I am planning to paint it in Blaze Blue in which the new Omni is also available. But finding it a little difficult to make the Workshop guy understand the actual color.

Also, I have heard that Dupont and 3M are good brands of paint. Which one is the best, please suggest. Here are some snaps taken today.
