Re: My Modified Maruti 800.

My 800 is has run for 700 kms as of now. I could feel slight improvement in pickup and mileage. I am getting close to 10 kmpl.

Power steering module (ECM) fried up ! [frustration] This is again due to the high voltage from ign coil. So now driving it around with manual steering (like a truck).

Last week a biker hit the stationary car - result a dented door and broken OVRM.

Car has no accessories ! No cd player, rear wiper,no central locking, running with stock horn, No AC. Rattles all over & what not.

My 800 doesn't have the charm which it had previously [cry] I don't know whether I can get it back to action like before.

Past few months what ever I am spending is just like set back, either I am not taking the correct path / action or it is not accepting any thing. [roll]

Finally the day has come where even at home no one likes to drive / take it out. It is just parked and covered.
People use to recognize me from my modified 800 but now ?

So next update might take some time.

Varun, chill brother.

You can bring back the car to its former glory.Just don't rush into it.Plan a soft restoration in stages based on your free time.

The car will be back at one point of time.

Don't worry I am always here to help you [cheers]

Re: My Modified Maruti 800.

Thanks for your kind words Keith !

Presently I don't know from where to start and where to end. Will put back some basic stuff on to the car first. Like the cd player, central locking, mats etc.

Varun, first things first.Find the source or the rattles.Tighten everything and take care of any mechanical issues.

The electricals you need to do together so there isn't a big spiders web of wires again.

Cosmetic stuff leave for last.

Re: My Modified Maruti 800.

Hmmm I understand the set backs are big, both money and effort wise. May be you just need to take a small break, pause all 800 works for a month and then bounce back in. In fact that is what I too have planned for, I am going psych ever since I bought this car, I thought about scrapping it too! but then that will be madness, hence I just disconnected the battery and playing around minor stuff in the car just to keep myself engaged.

Take a break, may be go for a vacation, enjoy the diesel ride in enjoy (Chevy enjoy) and come back fresh after a month to fix everything one at a time, slowly steadily. Guys like us cant sleep when our cars are in such condition, but then bad times are like petrol in our car, they dry up pretty fast (fingers crossed)

OT:
Some people say I am very frank and generous, here is a offer from me - I am okay to swap everything in my car with your's anytime! Feel free to contact me buddy. ([;)]Just kidding man)

Re: My Modified Maruti 800.

Leave the M800 alone for some time and enjoy the enjoy.Wow you have to say it two times.

Once you are refreshed then jump into the repairs.I agree with Anand.

OT:Anand that will never happen.

Re: My Modified Maruti 800.

Took out for a drive on my mom's request ! (Since she likes the 800 than the Enjoy) Now comes the shock to me..

The 800 is driven for almost 1k kms, I guess its sufficient for a engine to bed in.
The car was not able to pull just two people in a small uphill road, put in 1st gear full throttle its still in 10 kmph, honking from behind, no increase in RPM finally it stalled and could not pull. [frustration] I had to burn the clutch to make the car move from that point.

Is there any thing I should check alteast to make it road worthy and drivable.
I have no clue whats wrong.

Any way this weekend I will be changing the engine oil & filter.

Check the clutch and gearbox. Is it working properly.

The engine will take some more time to bed in.Will call you and update the correct duration.

I faced similar issue in my alto and found the culprit to be the clutch-plate, got to check that

@Varun
Did you check the MAP sensor? That sound like an ecm sensor misreading, it could be just the wiring
Also I suggest you to check every wire to and from the ecm, with the mods you fitted some wires may be damaged or doing a bad connection

Good luck

Re: My Modified Maruti 800.

Finally the car is drive-able after all the struggle. There was some issue with the distributor setting. The entire assembly was removed and re-fitted. Timing was adjusted

I can feel atleast 60% increase in power which I had after changing the engine.

Today after months I cleaned and polished the car. I was very happy !
Did few small mods adding back the old side indicators, front indicators (stock).

The leak in the exhaust was fixed, it was due to the flexible hose which was making it sound like a turbo.
Now the exhaust note is sweet ! Kind of music for my ears. Will put up a video soon.

Changed the rear dampers / shocks with Wagonr's as it would improve the handling.
The main reason for this mod is because the Waggy's shocks are taller & stiffer than the 800's and I have spacers that will be the correct size for it. Car handles better.

Replaced the gear shifter for smoother shifts but dint make any difference. The gear lever travels front and back when the car is moved, is because of the weak gear lever mount ?

Few pending tasks - Fitting back the Music system, making the central locking to work as it should, make the power steering work again, replace front shocks, replace steering rack / box.. few more.
