Re: My Modified Maruti 800.

After selling the i10 and buying the Rapid, my wife now wants to buy a small car like the 800 for going to the market and places where parking is difficult. There are a few 5-Speed AC models available from 50K to 75K. I was wondering whether I should buy one of these or pick up a brand new one. Yes the 800 is still available for 2.92L plus a 15K discount. Of course I can bargain for more. What do you say Varun?

Sir go for a pre-owned one ONLY if you find a good 5-Speeder(which in itself is very rarely available for purchase). Most owners who care don't easily part with it,and most of the 5 Speeders in market are very poorly maintained ones.
Buying a badly maintained one and then restoring it will be too much headache and if not done properly will be not at all reliable. Getting a new one is not bad option either. Recently M800 AC was available for around 2.7L OTR Ranchi.
OFF Topic-For some strange reason,I've always found 800 to be the most nimble car for the city. Alto 800 feels a bit bulkier, while I don't find myself too comfortable in Nano(feels like an Omni). No offence to Owners [:)]

I am looking only for good condition ones. Mechanically as well as cosmetic. This will not be a restoration project but a car for rough use by my wife.

You do come across a good one occasionally.

I will avoid this.

That's about the same price as in Goa after the 15K discount. Plus they are willing to offer something more too for the year end. But even at this price I feel the 800 is not worth it. Even the Spark or Santro can be bought for this price.

The only reason I wanted the 5-Speed was because of the higher power compared to the 4-Speed.

Re: My Modified Maruti 800.

Varun can you give me the links to the rear wiper, remote boot release and remote fuel lid mod threads. Can't find them.
Here is the link for the boot opener, I have not started a thread for rear wiper. If you need the part details or any pic's I Can post the details.

Any day a 5 speed 800 is better in all terms than the 4 speed one. Try to source a good one. There would be no issues with the parts since it shares the same parts from alto. Any issues in 800 can be sorted out easily, the only nightmare is rusting please check for rusting. Or if you are not confident enough get a new one as it is available. Is the cost 2.92 lk ? I guess its bit costly.

Varun, what is that aluminium thing you have posted in the above post? Where does it fit? I have never seen it so far in my car!
That's the gear shifter which is inside the gear box. This is the main component in the gear box responsible for shifting gears..

Re: My Modified Maruti 800.

Finally completed 1,00,000 mile stone. The car is 10 years 5 months old.

The car has about 3k kms after fitting the new engine. There are no much improvements. It is being driven on daily basis by my dad.
There are few issues which has to be addressed on priority. The A pillar bottom (where door hinges are fitted) is rusted need to change the piece, Steering rack to be replaced.

The other few are the front struts have gone weak, will look at them a bit later.

Congratulations Varun, on achieving a milestone. Have a million kms ahead. Once you change the steering rack, steering will become like a power steering ones.

Congrats Varun Sir on the milestone. Its really an awesome feeling seeing the odo roll completely to 0 mark. I've been lucky enough to witness that twice on my 800. [:D]
Wishing you another trouble free lac kms on your 800. [:)]
