DIY - Nomad style floor mat for my cute devil

Today I did a simple DIY job to make Nomad style floor mat for my car. Things I used for this DIY:

1. Noodle mat (100 cm x 120 cm). Before buying the mat I dint measure the floor area of ecosport. While marking the mat I was surprised that this is the exact required size to make 4 mats except the rear middle hump. If anybody wants to do this DIY he can simply buy the above mentioned size of noodle mat. Cost of the mat Rs. 1000. Approx. Rs 76 per Sq ft.

2. A big scissor. (Borrowed from my wife [;)] )

3. A cutter which already I had.

4. One Sketch pen (borrowed from my daughter).

This is my first DIY for floor mats and the result seems to be good [:)] . Let me share some pics.

Tell me two things.

  1. Can this have video input (i really doubt, anyway thought of clearing it) so that I can connect my reverse camera output to this.
  2. If I want to have GPS option in this kind of tab what all I need which is less expensive.

DJD what is the advantages of having this kind of mat than our regular mat? are you using this as middle layer between our regular mat and carpet. (even I think that would be nice so that we dont durt our carpet)

yes sir that was the first thing i did after the installation [:)] . Now watching movies inside my car is simply awesome.

1. No you can't connect video input.
2. For GPS you should buy a Tab with GPS and wi-fi facility. I think you can get this within 7k. Then install some offline navigation app. Currently i am using this app sygic india . after installation you can download the maps through wi-fi. That's all. Now you can use your tab for navigation. Net connection is not required. Only GPS signal will do [:)]

Sir, these noodle mats absorbs all the dirts / muds from our shoes/chappals and the top surface of these mats remains always clean. So whenever you eneter the car you can see a clean floor [:)] . and these mats are washable. at present I am using these mats above the existing regular black mats. But i think we can remove those black mats.

Good DIY but I have a suggestion. Do not leave the space below the accelerator empty. I use a diffferent kind of noodle mat which is hard. The mat tends to change it's position over a period of time and the accelerator pedal will get stuck. Happened to me twice. So just cover that portion as well.

Thank you for the suggestion. But my noodle mat is made of rubber and it is not so hard. After installation i checked it simply sticks to its position. No movement. Anyways i don't want to take any risk. Will definitely put something there. thanks again [:)]

Yes, your's is not that hard. Although mine stays in palce, it slightly moves forward after couple of days. The accelerator being stuck gave me a shock. The RPM shot up to 5k. Am planning to add a piece below the accelerator position.

I know how good it would be. Leave alone kids who enjoy the movies in long drives, even my friends likes it very much. They always ask me to have some comedy collections (Koundamani/Senthil Combination or Vadivelu mostly) and they enjoy the long drives.

Hope your kid enjoy the new setup.

That is sad. But no probs.

That part was confusing me for long time. Am clear now. Thanks for updating me.

So you have regular carpet on the floor and above that regular black floor mats and above that you have these noodle mats. Wont it increase the height of the floor and that wont affects action of your clutch, break and accelerator pedals?

And does this noodle mat's bottom is covered ? (why am asking this is in that case the durt will not go down and it stays in the mat itself.

BTW, where do you get this? and should i ask as Noodle Mats or some other name?

Your mats look really good. Yes accelerator getting stuck is damn risky. I need to cover up that area.
Guys.. dont scare me like this (accelerator get stuck)

Thickness of the noodle mat is around 15mm. But it is like sponge. So you won't feel the increase in height. While covering the driver foot well you should take utmost care. Before putting the mat first you can press the clutch and accelerator pedel fully and mark the area where the pedals meet the floor. Now you can cover the foot well with the noodle mat up to the border of that contact area. But make sure that pedal to floor contact area is not covered.

And does this noodle mat's bottom is covered ? (why am asking this is in that case the durt will not go down and it stays in the mat itself.

yes sir, the bottom of the mat is covered with a layer (thickness around 3 mm). So dirt will not go down and the original carpet will remain clean.i got this mat from a super market. You can ask as noodle mat.

Guys.. dont scare me like this (accelerator get stuck)
Don't worry sir. Nothing will happen [:)]
