Ashikawa, thats an exhaustive research you have done[clap]. I agree that the German cars are superior when it comes to quality, i was especially blown away by the fit and finish of the Polo when i sat in it for the first time, however the service costs look too steep for a hatchback.
I am agree with you sir. However i am very happy with my car as of now. Hope with time the service cost may go down due to localisation of various components and also keeping in view the ambitious approach of VW in indian market.

Ashikawa,

I appricaite your way of analysing things and reaching to a conclusion what would be good considering future. Hats-off to you.

But your thread also helped me to understand that quality comes with a prize. Probabaly, I do not have much in store to maintain this quality, so Polo goes out of my list. Thanks (from the heart)

thanks for your kind comments. But still i insist that anybody who is planning to buy either Swift vxi or i20 era(petrol), should seriously consider buying VW Polo Trendline petrol. Just see the on road prices of these two vehicles and than get price of VW Polo Trendline petrol with 3year/4year AMC and extended warranty. You will be surprised to know that almost by paying 10-15 k extra you can enjoy the sheer comfort of German engineering for coming 3/4 years without spending anymore . by the time the most of the polo parts will be loacalised and will be at same price as any other indian hatch. Also i would like to mention that present polo spare cost is only a little higher than its competitiors. Due to Mods constraints i am unable to post the comparison chart here. I am exploring the permissible way to do it. Will soon post it again in a acceptable form. And that will clear all the doubt in our minds about german engineering being so expensive to maintain.

That's a great piece of analysis and forecasting man! I am sure AMC will surely help maintain a hatch like VW Polo, but I still feel this car has to mature in India. Driving on a 3-pot engine, with some noise at idle, I bet VW will look to bring the new engine soon.

Valid point but my current Zen Estilo is also a 3-pot engine. So it is all about mind set that people have.

Agree with you . The 3 pot / 4 pot is just about mindset. The sound of petrol polo is not much at idle , you will hear it only when to rev it at high rpm's in lower gears. The car has enough power to show its performance at all speeds. 3rd gear is the tool for the city moderate traffic and overtaking. Whereas 5th shows the great performance at high speed highway driving. The gear ratios are set in such a manner that it should satisfy FE needs of indian population( the most important one) without compromising its german robustness and performance. This car is a lot heavier (1020 kg.) than some sedans i.e.swift dezire/ etios (both 965 kg). It has the sedan like ride quality, you won't feel like being in a hatchback. This sunday i went to see a movie. There a swift dezire was parked beside my car. So to compare the length i parked my car just parallel and surprised to see that there is no significant difference in length of these two cars even the vento is only a little longer than this car.

Zen Estilo or Estilo has been a great VFM car. I used to love the original zen as it was the best car in class that time and sufficed its name of zero engine noise. But I believe with time we should be ready to embrace new tech.

With newer engines and better outputs in terms of performances and emission levels, that is again a personal choice and depends on the fat in wallet [:)]

2.Just found out. Zen has always been a 4-cyl car. Estilo is also a 4-cyl 1061 cc engine.
May be, but i had an experience with Estilo. The car is only 6 month old. A person in my apartment has tried to move this estilo. He is a new driver and was just playing with that car. He came out of his parking slot but was not sure about park it back. So he was just waiting there for someone who help him parking his car back. Then he saw me and called me for help. I did the job for him. But to my surprise i felt that car to be built so poor that while accelerating the whole car including doors and seat was vibrating like anything. The doors were too light in weight and the cheap plastics used inside doors, dash etc. were crying their story.

Here i would like to make it clear that i too owned a 800 and that kind of vibration were felt by me only when any of the door is wide open with engine on. I was surprised with the low level of built of Maruti, even my 8 year old 800 had a better built. So i am not confronting anybody here. I too gone through all the dilemma of buying a hatch. And the only two hatches i felt like built to last were Punto and Polo. Though punto was dropped due to not too good petrol engine( in respect of FE) and fit and finish level of plastics inside.

Now the matter of being a 3/4 potter doesn't matter to me much, if it is capable of moving a hatch without any hassle which is heavier than some of the sedans available in india. [:)]

Totally agreed, having a 3-cyl or 4-cyl engine and having an excellent build and drivability are two totally different things. Polo is the best hatchback in terms of build, cut and finish. Even the plastics used inside are top-class, if not European standards.

On a personal front, I would have loved Polo to bring out a lower cc 4-cyl version and not a 1.6 in India. I am also in the process to finalise (b/w polo and punto) and get one home. But going by the way Petrol prices are moving, might have to look for diesel

As your signature itself speaks "inching towards GP" shows you have fallen in love with Punto. I too had the same feeling. That car looks so beautiful and before lauch of Polo, It was the only beautiful hatch in india. When i was waiting for delivery, i too several times though about cancelling my booking and go for a Punto, as the waiting period for polo was too long. But as i was a petrol only fellow, i couldn't switch to Punto. Another thing i was aware about the service cost of Polo will be on higher side whereas Punto service will cost very less. But my wife like Polo very much and did not allow me to change my decision. Today i think she was right. Though i had to pay a premium but still i am very satisfied with the car.

I am sure you would be. Your wife did pick up the best in class[:D]
I am too in the similar kind of dilemma. But I am sure I will go for a diesel this time, which cuts it down to Figo or Punto. I just dont like Figo at all, so obvious remains.

But thanks abunch for the comparison you sent and these words. You share the same feelings!!
