Re: Fuel Efficiency Figures of Your Cars
Just to correct you Maruti ues Synthetic oil in all the Cars with Diesel engine be it Swift, Dzire or SX4. There is a debate and confusion going on in internet as to what oil to use Synthetic or Mineral as there is huge difference in the cost of the two. Also Ford in Figo and Fiesta is still using Mineral oil.
I am not sure as to what engine oil is being used in the latest Maruti Petrol cars.
For i10:
Changing to syntheic makes the engine more happy and more reviving incase you tend to abuse your car. Vey less visibility in increase in FE. I would recomend that you continue using Mineral oil in your i10. Only after your car has clocked 70 to 80 K think about shifting to synthetic oil but I would still not recomend shifting to Synthetic oil.
Sunbaj, Maruti uses synthetic in the Petrol Ertiga.I think all new cars with the Kseries engines are using synthetic oil.
When the engine has more wear you should not get synthetic.Infact that is the wrong time to get synthetic.
If your car is running on mineral oil from the factory, after the first couple of oil changes you can do an engine flush and then change to synthetic.
10k kms. First they thought of going for 15k interval like Fiat/VW but decided against this as many users have reported sluggish performance from there Fiat?VW cars after 12-13k kms. So Maruthi decided on 10k kms for oil change. For those petrol cars with mineral oil the interval is 2.5k kms.
Also another info as per testing for every 1000kms engine takes up 100ml of oil. So if calculated to 15k kms then comes around 1.5L of oil used which doesn't mean good news to engine na?
Got this info from Service manager at MASS who has been with MASS for 16 years

Sankar, the oil consumption usually stops once the engine is properly broken in.
The only benefit of an actual good quality synthetic is that is won't absorb moisture.
When Oil absorbs considerable amount of moisture you may sometimes find the oil level in you car has actually increased.Which is not good at all.
When you fill new oil into the engine always check the dip stick.Always maintain the level between the dots or indentations on the dip stick.Too much new oil is also bad.It will cause the seals to leak because of the extra pressure.
