Nick you need not required to do flushing. just heat up the engine, open the filler cap and drain for 30min thats it. Shift to mobil 1 but change it after 10 k, after that you can easily run your engine for atleast 15k (max 20k)on mobil 1. But make sure during that period you change the filters and other lubricants according to the owners manual, better go in for the best of coolant, gear oil and brake oil to get the best out of your car.

If the manufacturer is claiming that no flushing is required then the oil may be compatible. I would still advice you to double check with the manufacturer through their Distributors/Retailers or by Email (so you have something in written from the Oil company in case things go wrong due to wrong choice, this will help you in the Insurance claim if needed). I am not trying to scare you, just advicing abundant precaution.
Secondly, pls ask the Oil company about the grade of Oil (synthetic) to be used as replacement because the different grades have different viscosity and secondly as the temperature rises the viscosity reduces making the oil more fluid> This directly affects the Oil film thickness of the bearings and therefore the load bearing capacity. Oil companies should give you the correct advice.

my cars manual has this temperature graph one graph covers the entire range and has 5w20 and 5w30 listed there, and below its written for added fuel economy use an energy conserving 5w20 grade oil
the international counterparts come with 5w20 factory fill some have added 5w40 during oil change and found a major hit of 4-8mpg in economy and sluggish performance. mobil1 site shows 5w20 only when i select my car. Had asked my sa on grades he says use whatever is recommended in the manual not anything else (manual is the indian edition)

thnks biddu so i guess i will go fro 5w30/5w20 api-sm/api sn since they are recommended in the manual
Better go in for 5w40, as that cover all type of temperature requirements.
the thing is hyundai international states the 5w20 is the required oil in texas where climate is same as ours they use 5w20 few went in and changed to 5w40 result was a sluggish engine and drop in fe from 15kmpl to 11kmpl. they changed back to5w20 and got their fes back.
however our manual is the indian version i will upload the oil chart so you can recommend.
and the oil filled in my engine seems more fluidy (runny) unlike my other car which has 5w40. in this car(petrol verna) as soon as i remove the dipstick it drips on the intake manifold n runs down quicker

heres what the manual states and i have a gasoline engine, i do not have issues with cost of oil, hence going in for fully synthetic
my sa says its best to avoid oils which has a major difference between the winter reading and the max viscosity eg. 5w50 and better to keep differences low so the oil has less of those additives to maintain the wide range.

Since you stay in Mumbai, you can use 20 W 50 oil as the lowest temp in Mumbai is about 15C. As for the runny quality of the Oil, it seems to be of lower viscosity at normal ambient temp and hence runny. What grade of oil is it?

sa says that hyundai fills in 10w30/15w40 but i guess its much lower viscocity

I have a Maruti Ritz VDI and have clocked 34K Kms till date .
Require inputs from all on this whole dilema of using a SYNTHETIC Vs SEMI-SYNTHETIC Oil .
Has anyone experienced any benifits of using synthetic oil or its just a psychological placebo ?
All suggessitions welcome

I have recently purchased liva diesel. It's got 4000kms on the odometer.
Can I shift to synthetic oil? The primary reason for doing so is to reduce the engine noise.

Please refer to your Liva Manual and let me know the grades of oil recommended.
Toyota uses Idemitsu Engine oil which is manufactured locally by Savita Chemicals for Toyota specifications.

If you will switch to synthetic oil now, you may loose the warranty given by the company on engine unless company has not given the recommendation for the same.
I think synthetic oil will not reduce the engine sound. What it do is ,It dose not get over heat and breaking down of the oil takes a longer time.
If you are not interested to change the engine oil very frequently, then Systhetic oil is best suited or else normal mineral oil also do the job.
