Synthetic usage depend upon climate as major reasons and no problem in using it in normal condition , it helps in better lubrication which is needed for any engine.

Re: Mineral or Synthetic Oil ?

0w 40 will be too costly and needed only for places like leh etc. even more colder places like that.

But still they will be more easy lubrication for your car.

we anyways spend more on petrol in a month i.e 1500 kms/ mnth anyways rechecked the manual and sorry was mistaken it has graph -20c - +50c 5w20,5w30
for better fe use 5w20 i know in usa they use w20/w30 but do we get that here?

Re: Mineral or Synthetic Oil ?

guys i have a relative coming down from usa in a month or two so i am think of either one fo these amsoil, red purple, mobil1 or pennzoil.
but im so confused on viscosity
manual says 5w20 for better economy on the weather graph it covers all temperature ranges as well as 5w30 other recommended grades are 10w30 15w40 20w50 api-sm
showroom guys said they use either 10w30 or 15w40 mineral oil i can get my own oil if i want synthetic.
issue is i have been reading through another forum and over there guys says 'x'W50 is recommended for higher climates. now as per what i understand thicker oils means more work and a decrease in kmpl.another thing what i get is that newer modern engine have tight tolerances and need thinner oils to get between them.
as per them lesser than 'x'W40 will cause issues in indian climates and also lead to more friction as oil being thin.
badly confused here.

Re: Mineral or Synthetic Oil ?

say 5w 40 ,
5 is the viscosity in cold and 40 is viscosity when its hot.

15w 40 , 20w 40 are recommended for petrol cars
15w 40 is best all the times .

same 15w 40 is the standard thing used in diesel engines.

Synthetic , its 5w40 practiced for all engines at present , 0w is for extreme conditions
price varies according to brands since they add few more chemicals/ additives added in them

And buying a engine oil from the usa , hmmm i feel not worth . lot of products are available for the car from the usa.

Re: Mineral or Synthetic Oil ?

I got my Estilo serviced for 60K Kms and asked them for Mobil-1. This time they used 0W-40 and cost was around (Rs.1152/- per liter). I always use synthetic oil and get it replaced at / around 10K service. So would I be getting any benefit of using these synthetic oils ?

Re: Mineral or Synthetic Oil ?

amiti if you can stretch the budget go for WURTH TRIATHALON HC fully synthetic 5w40 made in germany. 20w50 of any brand is not recommended for use.

Thanks Monish. As previously mentioned I have used Helix Hx7 10w40 Mineral oil for my i10 auto. Will see for the oil mentioned by you.

I am also on lookout for auto transmission fluid (ATF) Diamond grade SP3 fully synthetic for my i10. Can you recommend one?

Shell Helix is a semi synthetic engine oil, good enough for i10 just check if ur car's recommended grade rating is 5 w 30 like in k series and chevy;s small cars if it is then i can arrange u a 60L barrel of Wurth 5w30 Synthetic engine oil Made in Ireland with unmatched engine performance than any other made in india engine oils. For the ATF wurth doesnt make ATF's as if now till then you can Use Total's Auto Transfluid Dextron 3 thats the highest grade available in the market.

Correction Helix H7 is a synthetic technology engine oil and not semi synthetic. So if you go in for synthetic you will definitly feel the difference, How wurth is different from other synthetic engine oil is that is is made in Germany rest all are made in malaysia.
