Re: Suzuki's New Premium Hatchback Coming Up

New Suzuki Baleno revealed at Frankfurt motor show

The Baleno sits above the Swift in Suzuki’s line-up. It’s 3995mm long, 1745mm wide and 1470mm high - so longer and wider than its baby brother, but with a slightly lower roofline.

The new car sits on an all-new platform that’s likely to underpin a new baby SUV and the successor to the Swift. It features MacPherson struts at the front and a torsion beam set-up at the rear.

The engine line-up for the Baleno comprises Suzuki’s 1.2-litre Dualjet motor with 89bhp and 120.67 Nm, and the firm’s new 1.0-litre three-cylinder turbocharged unit, dubbed Boosterjet. It produces 110bhp and 169.48 Nm of torque between 2000 and 3500rpm.

The Baleno line-up also gets a mild hybrid edition - called SHVS, it mixes an integrated starter generator with the 1.2-litre engine, and helps the Baleno to move away from a standstill. Suzuki claims the system also gives a smoother restart in stop-start situations, because the engine uses starter generator’s belt-drive start instead of a conventional starter motor.

The standard transmission is a five-speed manual, although the Dualjet is also offered with a CVT gearbox and the Boosterjet is available with a conventional six-speed automatic. The Dualjet SHVS hybrid is the cleanest model in the line-up at launch, with CO2 emissions of 93g/km. The regular manual Dualjet emits 101g/km, while the more powerful Boosterjet manual emits 103g/km.

The Baleno’s front cabin features a neat, uncluttered dashboard design. It will be offered with an optional 7in touch-screen display in the centre of the fascia, although even more basic editions will get an LCD display at the centre of the instrument panel. Suzuki has revealed that the infotainment set-up can include Apple’s CarPlay connectivity for iPhone users.

Here are even more stunning images of the Baleno in Red and Blue. Those diamond cut alloys on the red should have been showcased on the blue too! The interiors look better in these better lit pictures. I think the car will actually look great in person! Hope these great colours make it into India as well. The rear has loads of space. Rear armrest is missing though, but there is a headrest for the third passenger. No rear AC vents. Dead pedal is present. The rear seat seems to be at a very comfortable recline position. Will it be adjustable ? Also how do you think the Nexa grille will change the look of the Indian model from this mesh version ?

This car will be a segment higher than Swift but lower than S cross. It will be the Premium hatchback and retailed through Nexa.

Re: Suzuki's New Premium Hatchback Coming Up

it will a good option to those who are loyal to maruti suzuki and do not wish to buy the swift.

if launched with shvs then it will have a great mileage to lure even more buyers.

i think the design is good, not in the league of i20 or germans but still a good job done

only thing is to be seen how it handles and if handling is good like the swift then will surely make a dent on i20 sales

Suzuki Baleno global website with promo and technology videos:
GLOBAL SUZUKI | 66th IAA Frankfurt International Motor Show

Something interesting, in the press release suzuki states that the SHVS model will be 10mm less tall (1470 mm to 1460 mm). Why would that be ? :
Global News News.2015 | Global Suzuki

The boot capacity is seemingly best in class at 355L as stated by Suzuki. The Jazz has exactly 1 litre lesser space at 354L.

The global Baleno gets adaptive cruise control and Radar brake support among the long list of features. Hope they trickle down to India as well on the top end model! Also, for god's sake they should change that Baleno name for India!

Re: Suzuki's New Premium Hatchback Coming Up

I find this car to be quite a mish-mash of various other cars.
The grille seems to remind the Nissan Sunny, The headlamps are shaped similar to the Swift, The rear looks like more of an evolved Alto or Celerio with cheap looking tail lamp units.
The roof silhouette reminds me of the Porsche Cayenne and the dashboard styling is too much like those of the Hyundai Elantra/Verna.
However delicious the Red paint job and those alloys are, this car looks plain unappealing to me. It has No originality and seems to be developed just to be present in the premium hatchback segment.
I am extremely disappointed by Suzuki![anger][thumbsdown]

Opinion varies, to me the side profile of this car is stunning. Overall a very good job by Suzuki and if priced rightly in India will be the leader in the intended segment[:)]

Re: Suzuki's New Premium Hatchback Coming Up

Neutral design from suzuki and right product to be positoned against jazz and i20.

The rear is bit boring, compared to i20. Should have projected the tail lamp cluster to the hatch door which could have made it premium
The front reminds of swift especially the headlight, the grill is a bit small to my liking, lots of blank space around the grill.
Headlight drl looks aftermarket, may be too late for the party since most of the aftermarket projectors have this kind of drl's.
The rear glass feels too large, many of modern design cars have a small rear glass which makes them stylish and modern.
Will wait and see how it actually looks and drives on road.

Re: Suzuki's New Premium Hatchback Coming Up

Thanks.

To me at least, it looks no better than the first-gen dZire. MSIL sucks at design, that's for sure.

P.S. It's only my opinion. Opinions can differ.
Once a MS fan I second you brother. Even chinese toy cars are better and much stronger than their recent so called new models (take the alto 800 as an example; a perfect way to destroy a sexy car to a ugly frog)!!.
