Re: Suzuki's New Premium Hatchback Baleno Now Launched!

Apart from the obvious fact (Abarth pulling up first amongst the small cars in both races), everything else feels a subjective matter. Narain's feel of steering may not be the same as that of Aditya, or for that matter a Mr regular Indian driver trying to manuever his I20 through the streets of Mumbai/Pune. For him, I20's 'woolly' steering is superb, and look and style is 'top-class, very Audi-like' !
Sure but sports and racing car drivers are not used to soft and easy driving machines, in fact most race cars are torture devices when it comes to aspects like comfort, space, ergonomics, etc but the driving parts like steering, brake, pedal feel, turn in etc are the things they get to notice most and Aditya being a GT driver and Narain an F1 driver both should have come up with at least some level of co incidence , except for the Abarth Punto which both agreed is a disappointment in track, rest all of the other cars got vastly different views[surprise]
Anyway its good to hear the lowly Figo TDCi is a star wherever it may go, whether be it fuel efficiency, power, mileage, lap times, practicality, cheapness to buy and run, safety...the tiny Figo aces all

I think it is a case of over expectation from the Abarth Punto and under-expectation from the other 'commuter' brands. Thats a wrong impression that gets created in the minds of the lay consumer. I dont think they have laid enough stress that the Abarth Punto is by far the most superior car of the commuter lot, its just more Punto than Abarth from a dynamics perspective-relative to its peers in the sports-hatchbacks sold in the advanced markets.

Re: Suzuki's New Premium Hatchback Baleno Now Launched!

Got the first shock from Baleno alpha tyres after I bought in November'2015. Noticed that tyre had big bubble (kind of swelling). Went to Service center who kept tyres with them for apollo company engineer's inspection. Got call today from engineer. He was saying that because of major impact either because of load/speed/bad road, this might have happened. He said that this is not manufacturing or design defect as tyre got under over load and hence Apollo is not responsible for the same.

I tried to convince him that this is not truck where I will overload or racing car which I will run over 200km/hr. If cars tyre is not designed to carry max 5 people load or withstand speed of 100 then why the hell they are manufacturing tyres. He was not ready to listen.

Not sure what needs to be done next. Anyone knows how to escalate this thing?

Unfortunately, tyres are not covered under car warranty as they are maintenance items. We just need to factor in any risk to tyre damage, its inherent to ownership - unless, there is a known defect from the manufacturer (recall the Firestone tyre issues with Ford Explorer in US). Just change it and slow down over the ruts/potholes.

Can you please post a pic of it.
Also find out ply composition, Manufacturing date code, Treadwear, Traction Temperature ratings & encircled E markings on the sidewalls of your tyres.?

Goodyear triple assurance tyres do come with unconditional warranty on this issue too.

Re: Suzuki's New Premium Hatchback Baleno Now Launched!

Well, the Apollo Alnac 4Gs are prone to issues. In my car, the front left was loosing pressure over the last few weeks. At 3rd service this week, I asked them to check if there was a leak in the valve stem because i had installed and removed the tyre pressure sensors several times. He came back saying there was an embedded nail or something and the tyre was punctured with a slow leak. The ASC does not handle punctures, so I got it done from outside. Unfortunately, I couldnt go to the tyre specialist myself and my driver took the car. He confirmed the nail and removed and patched the tyre
I think the real problem is that the tyres, like the car, is built for European conditions, so the Indian conditions are creating problems. My car had a rear shock replacement at 3rd service and the ride is a bit better but still not really comfortable. But we noticed that when we transitioned from driving on concrete roads to tar surfaced roads yesterday, the car suddenly became so quiet and compliant. I think the Apollo tyres are the root of quite a few issues people have with the cars. I considered moving to Bridgestone but I will do that when these tyres run out of life provided I still have the car by then. I completed 10k km in 9 months

3 services done before 10k kms, so whats Baleno s service interval?
Also a suspension change.. what was the real issue? Noise or discomfort? or some other issue?
The Appolos are good tires, as good as MRF ZV2K series tires,

3rd service at 10.45k km. In fact i avoided using the car through the 10 Ganapati days to extend the time period. In the end, i needed the car to do some work and had to service it.
The reason for suspension change was comfort but i wad also getting some groaning sound from the rear passenger side whilst getting out

So hows the service schedule for baleno is regular basis
1 year or 5000 kms / 1 year or 10k kms which ever comes 1st

And all cars if when getting in and out will make a peculiar noise if the handbrake is pulled up,
Regarding comfort sure if some one is dissatisfied one can have it changed, but generally Baleno had good suspension comfort from the short test drive I took

The service interval is the same- 1000/1 month, 5000/6 months & 10000/12 months. Noticed that the ASC uses the cheapest stuff (0w20 servo for example) which I didn't appreciate though cost was low.

The sound i am talking about is a groan like some train suspensions make. In any case, the decision to change the suspension was by the Maruti western india service manager, so i didnt cross question

I see
I drive a 2010 Ford Figo and for me the service shedule is like after buying car
2000 kms there will be a check up, with engine oil change

Then 10000 kms or 1 year,
Next is 20000 kms or 2 year and so on it goes

I think that makes service cheap as well since there is no need for 2 visits a year

Regarding suspension change, did they change just 1 suspension ?
Usually aftet susoension change also a wheel balancing and alignment has to be done,
Just check whether its done as well.

Re: Suzuki's New Premium Hatchback Baleno Now Launched!

It was the rear suspension, so no alignment was required. But i needed to do tyre rotation, balancing and fix that puncture. The ASC charges 1.8k for just alignment. So i told him not to do it and he readily cancelled. Alignment, balancing and puncture repair was only 500 bucks at a trusted tyre specialist

Maruti Baleno sales past 100,000 sales

Maruti Suzuki India’s premium hatchback, the Baleno has driven past the 100,000 unit sales landmark in the domestic market. Launched on October 26, the snazzy-looking car.

The Baleno, which is exclusively manufactured at the Manesar plant, is also a high performer for Maruti on the export front. Till now, 33,800 Balenos have been exported across the world, including to Japan, Europe, Australia, New Zealand and Latin America. It is the first car to be exported from India to Japan. Maruti Suzuki plans to export the car to 100 international markets.
