Re: Suzuki's New Premium Hatchback Baleno Now Launched!

Scross is out of budget...
My budget is 7l.. Scross is 9.5
Test drive Polo 1.2 Comfortline and the Ford Figo 1.2 Titanium
Figo is around 6.88 lakhs on road and gives value like no other brand can, and yet its fun to drive as well,
Average mileage reported by most users in between 13-14.2 kmpl

Another smart choice is Figo 1.5 TDCi Trend, its supreme power is unmatched in that price range, add to it 2 airbags its a too a great buy, and its a diesel so average mileage will hover around 17-22 kmpl and yet its fastest diesel hatch in our country below 10 lakhs on road,
Figo has lot of offers upto 25000 Rs for Titanium models as well
http://www.carwale.com/m/research/quotation.aspx?pqid=268373684,268373833,268374076

So my pick is
1. Figo Petrol 1.2 Titanium
2. Polo 1.2 Comfortline
3. Figo 1.5 TDCi Trend

Go for Baleno or swift, swift is fun to drive excellent driving dynamics. Baleno is VFM now they have rectified all the initial niggles in the baleno, new batch you get good acceleration too.

Re: Suzuki's New Premium Hatchback Baleno Now Launched!

I would actually suggest you have a look at tge Aspire or the Zest

Ameyam
Aspire and Zest one cannot get under 7 lakhs
The Figo and Bolt can be had for under 7 lakhs on road,
The best handling car in India under 20 lakhs is the Fiat Punto
But its petrol is weak and gives super low mileage and the gearbox has some issues

The second best handling car is the Duster,
3rd best is Figo/ Aspire
4th best is Ecosport
5th best is Polo/Vento
Thata how it goes, Maruti swift has a punchy engine and good front end bit but it cannot masknundersteer like Figo /Ecosport /Punto etc does, and easily churns to terminal understeer if we push too hard, the Figo,Punto etc has a rotation that helps it mask understeer and gives more confidence even at 80+ kmph cornering speeds
The Fiesta is the best car but sadly its discontinued, even at 90 kmph the Fiesta can resiste understeer which even Linea and Octavia cant match, the Jetta can somehow stand put with Fiesta.

There is a reason why Ford is nicknamed "poor mans BMW"
They make the worlds best fun to drive mass drivers cars, and the Figo just had got that gene mixed in it somewhere in small pie,
So if the priority is fun to drive, just go Ford way

Yes, easily better than Polo
Polo s 3 cylinder unit is not at all weak but one can feel the car is heavy 100 kg heavier than Figos, that makes the Polo struggle specially if car has more than 2 occupants, the Figo too struggles with 4 on board
City driveability is best for the Swift followed closely by Baleno and then only Figo, Swifts K series is a bit more energetic and has less weight to haul hence it feels best, that said Figo is no slouch, it has more than enough torque
But as a package the Figo Titanium makes most sense
Why Figo 1.2 Titanium makes most sense because after say 5-10 years of ownership if one needs to sell a car the base variants will bring nothing while Titanium variants will hold value better
The Figo 1.2 best in class attributes are
Best AC,steering, space, handling, safety, price tag, boot, back seats can be folded for more space,
No other hatch back at this price point offers this much things
I would always suggest to go with Titanium if Ford is the choice, one will never regret taking the Titanium whereas Trend looses some important features like no ABS,no rear wipers, no adjustable OVRMs,
So Titanium is the best buy in Figo, Ford is offering upto 25000 RS discount on Figo and Aspire models, so the 6.90 lakhs on road will reduce to 6.65 and that is a whole lot of car for that money

Re: Suzuki's New Premium Hatchback Baleno Now Launched!

If i remember correctly, the zest xmt was 6.6tl back in December. Its performance was adequate & its ride comfort was phenomenal. For that price tgey even gave you projectors. The two i drove had quality issues whuch did not impress me for a demo car. But then, those were demo cars. Being Tata, they weren't selling too well just for the name but product was really good. I had other priorities though

The Aspire was equally good in comfort. But i gound the build very light. At that time ford spares weren't available in retail

The polo 3 cylinder engine didnt impress me at all, in fact i asked the salesman whether it was diesel. With the polo, the initial German manufactured batch was really good but the later indigenised ones were equal in quality with others. The interiors were also cramped

I didnt drive tge figo as i already had the swift

Ultimately it comes down to what kind of driver you are, whether you want handling or comfort. Though i very much doubt whether understeer is so much of a concern in the city

The question asked by Surya123 is to suggest a fun to drive hatch back with less than 7 lakh INR ,
And for that price nothing beats the Ford,
Just try any static or dynamic measures the Figo/Bolt is well ahead of competition,
I am a Ford owner for the past 6 years and I migrated from Maruti and believe me the Fords expensive spares etc is a story of the past generation, I think as of now Ford is just 5-10% mote expensive to maintain than a typical petrol Maruti and diesel is as cheap as diesel Maruti to maintain,

And add to it Figo is more spacious, bigger on inside, has better and bigger boot, better NVH,better ride and handling, better GC, better stock audio system, better brakes, better safety, its way way better car than Swift
But its a tight fight between Bolt and Figo and I found Figo to be tad more fun to drive than Bolt hence suggested the Figo
About built quality yes Ford has used light sheet metal for body panels in Figo compared to old one as in mine but the chassis is super strong. Its 60% high strength boton steel chassis whereas no other competirion uses such kind of steel in making a car of this small size, even Polo uses the regular steel but sure its guage is higher than Fords B526 chassis

Under steer is not a problem in city and its a problem in highways, at speeds excess of 90 kmph inder steer while come in any FWD car and Ford has the best suspension setup to mask and counter it, also once driver gets good confidence in cars its quiet natural that a lot of people push cars at some speeds and we cant stop it and hence if a car has that dynamic ability to keep under steer in check I think thats a hidden added bonus at such a low price point,
99% Indians dont care about handling ride etx while buying cars, proof is in sales of Hyindai and a whole bunch of other cars, but if Ford can give a car that can handle well and yet dosent make you pay more for it, I think thats a boon worth checking out.

Ok, my bad. I didnt notice it was regarding the hatch.

I would also add in the Etios Cross here. Its definately overpriced at 7.2L but you can haggle a discount. What little i drove of it, I found it to be nice handling. Not as good as the swift but quite peppy in diesel and a lot more comfortable in the back

Re: Suzuki's New Premium Hatchback Baleno Now Launched!

Thanks everyone.. Mostly Figo or polo tough fight.. Let me td Figo and take a call Friday
If budget is a concern hang on with Figo as the Polo is in a league of its own when it comes to quality, Figo cannot match Polo, but trouble is service costs are high for VAG products, sometimes they simply charge 9000 Rs for regular service and we will be left speechless, so if budget is no issue move with Polo, otherwise Figo is the better buy
I can assure you that Polo will feel better than Figo because Polo is a true premium hatch back unlike Jazz,Baleno, etc
Elite i20 and Polo are common mans luxury cars

Always try to move to higher trims, higher trims will fetch more resale and added stock comforts ehich will make users happy in the long run, if budget is not tight move with Alpha, adds a lot if useful features.
